Im not sure how to rate this restaurant. I rate the food very highly, but the staff, experience, and atmosphere leave something to be desired. We absolutely love the steak salad. (Ive often had people recommend the pork salad or pork burritos, but the pork is a bit sweet for my taste. The grilled steak or grilled chicken are more on the savory side.) In fact, most of the food on the menu is quite delicious. Unfortunately, the last few times Ive been here, the staff has been confused and uncoordinated. They have a system set up where one person greets you, and starts your order (you choose your meat, cheese, rice, beans, and tortilla options) and then passes you along to a second person who adds your fresh ingredients. That person in turn passes you to a third person who adds drinks and rings up your total. The last few times Ive been to this restaurant, the staff have absolutely refused to help each other or communicate in any way, causing the "greeter" to get ahead, and pile up orders which the other staff cannot keep up with. Confusion inevitably occurs, and the constantly screw up orders. Youll need to keep track of your items and make sure they dont use your food to fill some other call-in order! Additionally, its not a particularly pleasant place to enjoy your food. There is fairly loud, fast-paced music playing, which creates a noisy, bustling environment, and makes you feel rushed. Im sure that is intentional, in order to free up seats, but Id almost always rather get my food to go. In short, the food is great, the staff are confused, and the whole joint has a loud, anxious feel.

Ive been going here for a few months now and each time it seems like the service gets worse. Tonight I walked in around 9:15 or so...they had everything cleaned up as if they had already closed. I was the only one in line and it took a few minutes before someone acknowledged me and then didnt even come over right away. Most of the employees were busy cleaning or making their own dinners. I get that that happens...Ive worked in the food business for many years. But, when a customer opens the door and walks up to the counter you take care of them first. I almost (and should have) walked out at this point. I asked for 2 salmon tacos. Everything I asked for had to be repeated at least twice. The taco plate is supposed to come with rice and beans. Those were skipped over and I was asked if I wanted lettuce. I asked for rice (and didnt even try on the beans as the guy made it clear the black beans were out, not talking to me however, and thats what I wanted). When I asked for rice the man seemed confused. Im pretty sure this wasnt his first day. When my meal was completed (well...if you can call it that) I stood for a few minutes before someone even came to ring up my order. I could have easily walked out with my food without paying. The girl that eventually came to the register was nice but obviously stressed out. I felt pretty bad for her. Im not sure whats going on here, but some changes need to be made. Horrible customer service, its always messy behind the counters and its almost always a frustrating experience when I go there.

The food at CAFE RIO is always amazing, however the service is not. We felt so rushed in line that they didnt get our order right and when we tried to correct it they seemed very offended and frustrated with us and didnt speak to us but aggressively fixed what we were wanting and even then they still didnt get it the way we were asking, let me move this onto the next person and didnt even ask if our order was complete. I tried to explain this to The cashier and she was doing the exact same thing trying to get our card and then ask the next person in line what they had. She didnt care at all. Ive never had a bad experience at Costa Vida, maybe its because the people they hire are higher quality employees. Also, fix those freaking tins, they always spill in my to go bag every single time. Go get a meal at Costa Vida and check out how awesome their tins are, then copy it. Hire some employees that are taught to care about the customer experience. Take a lesson from in and out , Chick-fil-A, or Costa Vida. When we have negative experiences like this it makes us not want to come back. As you can tell, this review is directed at the people in charge of CAFE RIO. Not for necessarily other possible customers, because Im assuming that CAFE RIO has someone in charge of reading these and improving the business. I would hope so.

I love cafe rio, and I use their on-line take out ordering service a lot. A LOT. Like, once or twice a week, every week. Anyway, the past few times something has been wrong, forgot salad dressing, etc. Annoying, but not big deal. Last night I ordered online, and when my husband brought the food home, it was completely wrong. We both had long days and neither of us wanted to drive back to get the order corrected because the drive alone would take another 30 minutes. I called and spoke to the manager on duty, and she was so incredibly rude, I couldnt believe it. She told me I placed my order wrong, and when I told her I have done it many times and did nothing different, and assured her I knew how to do it online, she refused to believe me. Then she said, "well what do you want me to do?" in a really mean tone. Finally she said she would give me a free meal next time, and I said thank you, and before I could ask her how I would redeem that, she hung up on me. I tried to call back, and no one would answer. About ten minutes later I finally got a hold of someone. I have never been treated so poorly, not only as a customer but even just as a human being. That manager was so rude to me, she was very degrading and belittling. Awful.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! I went through the process of making a google+ account merely to complain after the 10+ awful experiences I have had at this location. The manager should be ashamed of himself because he clearly doesnt give a crap. We first started noticing the decline in service when a bunch of high school kids started working there. I told the cashier that I had a free meal and handed to him then he swiped by card and didnt give me the free meal because he was far too busy chatting with a friend. I was pretty ticked so I asked him to refund my card and he said, "sorry I guess youll have to deal with it." I have had the wrong burrito made 3 times, I had to wait an hour and a half for take out and each time I tried to talk to the manager and they said he wasnt available. Seriously?! I asked for more mean on another occasion because they had put about a tablespoon and the kid told me he would have to charge me extra. After this we decided we would be driving to Salt Lake to get our Rio fix. Tonight I was in a rush so I decided to give our local Rio one last chance and lo and behold... They sent me home with the wrong burritos. This is a joke and the LAST time Ill be visiting this location.
