5 Years ago, this place was AWESOME! Went today and was disappointed and sad about the experience. The last time we went the service was ok and the portions were great but the food was cold and salty, but we decided to give it another shot as its usually pretty good. But it was THE WORST! My wife ordered Mac N Cheese. The noodles were overcooked and mushy and I am pretty certain there was no nutritional yeast in the sauce. It was just like bland gravy and had no yellow color to it at all. I am pretty sure that gas station food is better than that. I got the "American Diner" with fries, It was about 80% gravy and 20% fries with the "chicken" on top. The chicken was actually OK and the gravy tasted fine, It wasnt that there was too much gravy. Rather there werent enough fries. I stopped by a local fast food joint on the way home to ask them to see their small size fry it was about 2-3 times more fries than I got at Vertical. And this dish is almost $11 We also shared the buffalo tigers. This is one dish that used to be AMAZING a few years ago. The sauce was nice and hot and well balanced. They clearly changed the recipe. Its more like a sweet and kinda hot sauce now, think: sweet and sour sauce with a touch of Tabasco. We also paid $2.50 for their endless coffee and were NOT ONCE offered a refill. The staff were short and unpleasant. They didnt ask if we were enjoying the food. The only thing they said to us besides "Can I refill your water?" (only one time mind you) was "You Ready?" both when we ordered and when we paid. Not a single "How was the food?" or "Are you enjoying it?" No, instead they stood just behind the partition and proceeded to trash talk a couple who was sitting outside with their dog. Apparently its tacky and/or rude, in their eyes, to eat at the outside tables at a vegan restaurant with your dog. On the way out I noticed that the kitchen staff were not wearing any kind of hat or hair net. GROSS and against Salt Lake County health code. I used to frequent this place, but I think this is the last time I go there. I used to be proud to tell people from other states how SLC had this awesome vegan diner. Now Ill just tell them about the bakery down the road. August 9, 2015 at around 11:20 am. Youll probably want to talk to your employees about health codes before you get shut down by the health department.

Four of us went there for dinner. It was Friday night at 6:30. The place was almost empty. Two of us are Vegetarian, and two of are not. The Non-Veg people had a hard time finding something they might like, and we all ordered something different. For the Veeg people, the food was good, or very good. Not great, but good. I guess they are used to it, and have few other choices. For the non-Veeg, it was not good, just mediocre. - We had fries as an appetizer and they were soggy. Bad. The mixed fry-sauce was good, but the ketchup was funky and tasted of vinegar and was pasty. Not good. - The burrito was good, but not great. An understandable compromise. - Pancakes were doughy. Heavy and almost pasty in the middle. Under cooked, bad. - The tacos were good to very-good. - The Breakfast plate was a mix. The "eggs" were good. The fake sausage was awful. The service was NOT good. We even had to hunt down our own silverware from another table. The waitress was a little stand-offish. Not friendly. She also referred to one of us as an Omnivore. The label was not needed, not appreciated. We have been to other Vegan restaurants. I suggest you try a different place. They seem to be playing the Vegan card too much, instead of just being a good restaurant. Maybe its the game or image they enjoy. I would think about coming back and trying other dishes because I see they have Veegs that love the place, but not worth the risk to me. Too many other choices.

I hardly ever have a poor experience at vegan restaurants! If you are looking for good service this is NOT the place to go. A few things, I walk in and there were three employees standing at the cash register and neither of them greeted me as I entered the restaurant until I finally got their attention. There was only one table occupied in the whole restaurant. We sit down and since it was our first time there we asked for some recommendations. Our server couldnt sell us the menu if she tried. Not very convincing! When we go to a vegan restaurant, we usually order about 3-4 items from the menu we are not frugal when it comes to good food. We end up getting the Buffalo Tigers, Tony Hawk burger, and the Tempeh Cubano with a sub of fries (since the fries were recommended by our server). Food comes and most of our fries were completely over-fried dark brown, oily and crunchy! Not cool! The Buffalo Tigers were great but they are not very buffalo-ish I would just call them spicy. The other two came out pretty good just a little smaller than I was anticipating. Anyway our server ends up leaving our table and we got switched to another server, thats fine no problem. We grab the check and the Monday 10% off was only applied to one item and not the bill. It was just not the best experience for an experienced foodie!! Food wasnt bad but customer service is important and the servers should be better trained!

Went to get some lunch here with a friend, when we walked in we were not greeted by any employee, they looked at us but didnt say anything. As we stood for about 5 minutes we decided to seat ourselves, assuming it was a seat yourself establishment... After we had sat down we waited for about another 5 minutes before anybody helpes us, then a waitress with pink hair and glasses approaches and we couldnt believe her TERRIBLE manners and attitude! She rudely stated that this was not a seat yourself restaurant and that we clearly missed the sign as we walked in that said "wait to be seated" we had told her that we stood there for about five minutes and nobody helped us which is why we sat ourselves, and she continued to argue with stating that "theres no way we stood there for 5 minutes, because she was only in the second." Saying this as she rolled her eyes at my friend! We decided to get up and walk out, I have never been treated so badly at a restaurant before by a waiter or waitress! I highly recommend vertical Diner finding new employees, or at least replacing her. Unfortunately I didnt get her name. But pink hair and glasses is pretty descriptive. What a shame because I used to love going to Vertical Diner I would drive a far way to eat there, which I did, and unfortunately wasted my time and my lunch to be treated badly and have to eat somewhere else.

I have heard so many great things about this place, so me and my girlfriends came down for dinner. When we got there, the place was almost empty. After we ordered I noticed 3 different times the waitress had delivered to wrong food to wrong table including trying to drop off on our table. My water glass sat empty for a good 15 mins before anyone came to fill it up. When I got my meal (Avo sub) I noticed it had avacado, lettuce and onion and didnt think anything of it. I hate the middle part of the sand which and my carrots. Since I am doing a cleanse I have to know what I am eating so I can avoid certain foods. I looked up the menu online for the meal I had to track it and noticed almost non of the ingredients matched. I asked the waitress when she came back over and wasnt quite sure what was on my sandwich but said their menu online is wrong and outdated. When she got a menu, it did not indicate on the Avo Sun that there was a "sausage" like patty and that they no longer put tomatoes on the sand which. Was the food good and full of flavor? Absolutely. Most of their service is horrible and they are completely unorganized. I say that because they did not charge me for my sandwhich, which was the least they could do. When my other two friends load for their meal, their receipts came back all mixed to the wrong card.
