The best way I can describe Rye is as though its run by really nice, hardworking, well-intentioned sixth graders. You can see theyre trying, theyre smiling, theyre doing the best they can, but they lack the experience necessary to create a solid all-around dining experience. It started when we walked in. It was a Sunday at 1pm. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait, despite that there were not one, not two, not three, not four, but five empty tables. We noticed the busser was moving at an extreeeemely casual pace to clear the remnants of the last guests. Sunday brunch with 4-5 groups waiting? You gotta hussle, dude. After that, it was just the little details: the ten-minute wait after sitting before being acknowledged; not bringing us the milk we asked for with the coffees; the extremely sweet but busy server requiring us to get her attention every time, rather than checking in on us; the bland, cheap-tasting waffle on which goes their delicious whiskey maple syrup. On that note, dont get me wrong, because there are some bright spots to Rye (cool vibe, sweet space, killer breakfast bowl, and the burrito with chorizo might be the best Ive ever had, ever), its just obvious that some of the details get lost, and that they clearly need to staff deeper sometimes. The menu is pricey, so the value proposition is debatable. We would go again, but only on a quiet evening or afternoon, not a busy weekend.

This place seems pretty trendy. Its extremely popular. Ive been told to go by a ton of different people. The perfect opportunity arose when my wife woke up one Saturday morning and wanted brunch. We headed downtown and this popped up on my Yelp search and decided to try it out. Upon entering, I had the familiar feeling of not being hip enough to belong, but thats a native emotion at this point in my life and Ive grown comfortable with it. As a matter of fact when Im in a location I feel that I fit into, its usually when Im going to bed at night in my own home. They have four dollar mimosas with your choice of orange, mango, grapefruit and guava juices. Theyre kind of small but delicious. I got the breakfast burrito. It was simple. Light tortilla, translucent. Filled with fluffy eggs and black beans and cheese. You can pay extra to a protein option, I opted not to. My wife got the breakfast bowl with brown rice. It had a delectable light yet prominent flavor. I was please. The décor is bright, and cozy. Everything is clean and simple. Id agree with all the positive reviews.

Weve come many times and have loved the food every time. This morning Im enjoying pancakes and whiskey (its whisky syrup), but I added a shot of whiskey with breakfast. They make incredible pancakes! All of their menus are fabulous, but breakfast is my fave. The Breakfast Bowl is my absolute favorite, with rice, house kimchi, basted egg and the most delectible pork belly youve ever experienced. Over time Ive ordered most of the items on their menu, and the chefs and staff at Rye have never failed to create an eating experience that will keep me coming back. One of the really cool thing they do is serve dinner from 6:00-11:00pm on Friday and Saturday nights, during which they stream the live concerts performing next door at Urban Lounge! Rye is a true gem and, when youre in Salt Lake City, you absolutely need to experience it for yourself! Frank Bennett.

Service is good, food is meh. I wish there were another way to describe it. Maybe theyve improved since we went there early on but the menu reads and tastes like an overrated hipster bar for 26 year olds. Truffle Mac and cheese? Cool except I could literally do the same thing at home in my kitchen if I wanted an easy Tuesday night dinner. A lot of the ways in which they "spruce" things up (ooh kimchi in your brunch bowl?! How exciting and revolutionary!) are supposed to be flashy if youre a recent college grad returning from Thailand from a spiritual exploration trip. Color me so indifferent Id rather be paying those prices for real food or for something with actual creativity.

So it didnt open until 9:00 but the door was unlocked at 8:45 and they let us come in and sit down. The breakfast was great, and the atmosphere and design were awesome too. Someone or some people had and thought through ALL the details because it was awesome. From the pictures, to the layout and design, the menus and the napkins--fabulous. Now, that being said, the girl that served us was good and professional, but she seemed bugged. Maybe a coworker was late, there was another girl that showed up a little bit after opening so maybe they were short-handed because it seemed like she was the only server for a while...But overall awesome.

I was in Salt Lake City (well, Lehi) for business, and I had some time to kill before my flight so I asked someone in my meeting about a good spot for lunch and they pointed me to Rye. First off, it was a little after 1pm on a Monday, so, there was plenty of room. Secondly, the soundtrack they had running was killer (The Clash to NIN to Journey...just all over the board, some obscure, but all enjoyable). Now, mostly importantly, I had the Pork Belly Banh Mi Salad -- holy hell! The pork belly was crispy and chunky, the dressing was brought in a self-serve container which was light and flavorful. Highly recommend.

We just went for a work lunch with 8 of us. Our waitress was Bailey and she was kind and attentive and even split our check EIGHT ways. She let us share meals and made sure our waters were full. I had 1/2 the Heirloom Carrot Salad and 1/2 the House Banh Mi with Egg/Avocado Sandwich. Both were SOOOOO delightful and healthy! The "fry sauces" were to die for (I never eat fries, but the sauces were so good, I just had to!). Ambience is great. Check out the wall in the Womens bathroom. So cute. (Dont believe the reviews that say they are slow at service. Oh contraire! We were out of there in exactly an hour...)

This is a great place for dinner with friends, or just to grab a drink. Service is very friendly and your water stays filled. We had the what I call the Jalapeño Popper Rolls, they were very tasty and was a great and different take on the traditional version. I also had the Rye Burger w/ Fries. The meat was cooked to how I ordered it, the bun was a little to big for the burger and was a little though. The avocado creme you could not really taste, and was just put on the bun thinly. Overall the drinks are great, and if your in the area and looking for some unique food I would give this place a try.

If I based my review on the Service and Atmosphere alone, I would rate it a 5 Star. However, I am sorry to report my meal was disgusting. I ordered the Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich and the eggs were soupy. They ran all over my plate. The bottom bun sopped up the liquid and it literally disintegrated away. There was no way I could pick this up and eat it as a sandwich. As not to make a scene in front of my co-diners, I ate around the egg as best I could. It was all I could do to keep from throwing up. What chef/cook would send this plate out....really?
