Wonderful baristas. There was a time the turnover was quite which naturally led to slight decrease in quality and tone of the place. Today, the baristas are mostly seasoned pros. The owner is super friendly and truly cares for his customer-base. The shop stays open until midnight which for SLC is very good. I would go so far as to recommend 1 AM, at least on weekends. The location is terrific, particularly for me being I work two blocks away. Even so, there is not much in the couple block radius in terms of commercial establishments. Without Nostalgia where it is there would be a significant void in this area of downtown. The only reason this specific area can be considered a part of downtown is because of Nostalgia. Without it the area would simply be a business district. The coffee and espresso are good (3.5 out of 5) but not excellent. The speed of delivery helps make up for it. The food is actually pretty good for what they offer. I wish they had just two or three more veggie offerings (veggie savory crepes) that were substantial enough to be considered a meal other than additional salads. Drawbacks: (not significant) should be open through 1 AM weekends!!! No longer serves 3.2% beer as previous owners did. Nothing on part of new owner for not wanting to deal with the DABCs constant bullshit...Because of the lack of downtown public establishments there can often be some odd folk--nothing for which to worry or cause any concern though.

Put a bird on it. The spirit of Portland is alive at nostalgia. Seriously though, this place is an atmosphere, it may appeal to you...it may not. It was clean and I liked the decor, but the wait staff seemed like they were all in a place other than serving the customer. When they rung up my meal, she gave me a receipt to sign and walked away to do something else...no pen, no interest in collecting the receipt, I could have just left. Eventually I just asked someone else for a pen. Same story when I wanted a refill on my drink. Which I get happens when youre busy at lunch...but it wasnt that busy. I guess thats part of the vibe or something, but treating your customers like the family member you are barely speaking too isnt really endearing. The sandwich was good, nothing special, and not worth the price, but I have had worse for more. If you need a place to park your MBP and work on that novel about your life altering trip to India...this is probably a great place to visit, you will be in good company. Otherwise the average to slightly above average food is almost not worth the staff. I thought maybe my experience was just a glitch but from reading the other reviews...im not so sure.

Service is inconsistent. Specifically, some of the staff know what there doing and some dont. I mean your serving coffee, so pay attention to the little things. Some of the staff are friendlier than others, genuinely. Also, sweep the floor once and a while. I read quite a few reviews of this joint, and I notice that the owner or manager has not responded to any comment, either negative or positive. The overall negative comments are poor service and the place needs to be cleaned. Positive comments are WiFi and big tables. I wont be coming back after several visits. There is no management and the coffee makers are green in the hospitality business. Its a coffee joint and there are plenty around.

Been disappointed with this place recently. I go in the mornings to grab coffee and relax before work. Today it took me 15 minutes in line just to order, and then one of the employees went out for a break and the other one went into the back room to play on her phone. If youre going to screw around at work dont do it behind the window in the door where everyone can see. I ended up waiting 45 minutes for them to pour my iced coffee from the jug after i reminded them that I had ordered it. Ive been here a few times where its been like this, so im likely not coming back. Im sure other baristas there are great, but the morning service here just doesnt work for me.

The coffee shop would have a nice atmosphere if it werent for the staff. I wasnt greeted, and when I ordered, the barista didnt even acknowledge me. No smiles from a single staff member for any of their customers. I ordered a London fog (which was awesome), and a veggie sandwich with no onions. I paid nearly $8 for a handful sprouts and lettuce on cheap store bought bread. The avocado and tomato on the sandwich were practically invisible, and they put onions on it (luckily they were pickled, so I didnt complain). The coffee/tea is great, but if youre wanting a good atmosphere with good (and not overpriced) food, I recommend going to a different coffee shop.

Incredibly inconsistent baristas. Ive been about five times to get hot chocolates in the evenings and it has been dramatically different all five times. I understand each barista having different skills, but I would not know that I was drinking the same drink from the same shop if I hadnt ordered it myself. I love shopping local, and I love enjoying these small and fun cafes in SLC, but consistency is truly important when you want returning customers. The staff are nice enough. I havent tried the food, but the menu looks good. It seems like a popular spot. I hope they can get the consistency down and have some better trained baristas.

Hipster heaven. There is nowhere to sit, as each entitled milennial take a 4 top for themselves, their bag and their laptop. The London Fog was good, but the baristas dont listen to a thing you say. My friend ordered food, which she was charged for, but was never brought out. She had to go ask for it after about 30 minutes and he tried to deny shed paid. After she showed her reciept, he begrudgingly handed it over. I went back a few weeks later, and was asked if I wanted food. I said yes, a cinnamon roll, heated, to go. The guy stared at me, and handed it to me cold, right out of the display case, and put it on a plate.

After a day of plastic customer service the relaxed atmosphere of Nostalgia is ideal. They dont smile at people they dont know, they dont pretend interest things theyre not interested in. They arent pretentious, each employee has their own tastes and interests that may or may not agree with your own; theyre simply honest about their opinions. They offer good coffee, great music (IMO, anyway - Fiery Furnaces when I was there last) and some local bands go there to rehearse. I absolutely love the place.

I love this coffee shop. The coffee and tea is very good (and hot) and the food is delicious and cheap (crepes, egg sandwiches, hummus plates, etc.). Best of all, the baristas are quick and friendly. Theres plenty of table space to do work and most of the time it stays relatively quiet. Theres also free Wi-Fi, books, and board games available. Theres almost always paid parking spots outside, but head around the corner and the parking is free.

This is a really chill place with good coffee and friendly Baristas. The coffee is always great and the baristas are creative amd give really awesome suggestions to make your drink better. The only problem Ive had is that I once ordered soup that had a hair in it that obviously wasnt my own. They were really weird about it and wouldnt refund me and only offered to give me a new bowl instead, regardless of me not wanting one.
