Dragon Diner may have fresh food, and it may be good, but as my fiance and I found out tonight management has absolutely no customer service skills, or willingness to make things right for an upset customer with a legitimate complaint. We ordered over the phone off the menu listed online featuring a "family dinner". While I fully accept the responsibility of not asking how many a "family dinner" would feed (a point the manager insisted on repeating), it is well known that any restaurant advertising a "family dinner" would start with feeding at least two people. The menu does not say how many it feeds, but it also does not say it is a combo meal, combo plate, dinner special, or otherwise. Imagine our disappointment and surprise when the fried rice, and egg roll that came with it, was for one. Not a family of at least two. I called Dragon Diner and asked how much an extra order of egg rolls, and side of friend rice would be and that I would be happy to pay for the order if they could deliver it. I was put on hold, and then told the manager said I could only have something delivered if I spent $14.00 or more. I complained, and stated that I would be willing to return my order and go somewhere else. The young gentleman on the phone was at least polite, apologized, but stated this is what the manager told him. I asked him to please put in the order, and I speak with the manager when I got there. The manager - a woman whos name I did not get - was all too happy to argue with me that it was my fault for not asking how many a "family dinner" fed, as they dont know how many Im feeding. I agreed with her, but a family does not consist of one. A family consists of at least two, and advertising something as a "family" would lead one to believe as much. After arguing technicalities a few times, I told the manager that the bottom line was she has an upset customer, and how was she going to make this right? Or would she rather I remain and upset customer and return my order and get my money back? She repeatedly skirted that issue to continue to argue that it was my responsibility to ask, and that because all of her other customers ask how many a "family dinner" feeds then I should have known to do that too. I offered two more times, what she would be willing to do to work with me to make this right, or I would return my dinner. Same broken record argument from her. So I did just that, got my money back, and I will never order for The Dragon Diner again. Which is sad as I have been a customer for a couple of years now, but Ive always eaten at the restaurant as one. Or with a large family party. And, I must point out one more argument. If The Dragon Diner customers have to ask how many a family dinner feeds, should that not point to the fact that the "family dinner" menu item is not clear? Beware, if you eat here, that you will have to ask questions about everything on the menu, as management will assume you already know, and will not work with you at all if you are upset. Especially if they can make it your fault. Oh. Also, as the manager was issuing my credit a couple who had come in and wanted to sit, came up and asked if there was anyone available to clean. I looked around and every table was covered with rice, or empty plates. The place was a mess. Clearly this woman should not be in the restaurant business.

A year ago i wouldve rated dragon diner 5/5, now its4/5. Still great, but some notable changes. The staff has always been great, but lately they have dropped a little. Still good, but no longer great. THe food however is good, not great but good. The thing is, its good food, at an amazing price. Ive eaten plenty of chinese, and food just as good, possibly worse, for 10x as much. Seriously the food is great, and lots of it, for only 7-10$. It comes with an entree (lunch or dinner portion) a soup, and a side (eggroll, wonton, etc). Its a lot of food. Its always enough for a full meal, and enough for left overs. So really its 7-10$ for two meals, and i can eat a good bit. My girlfriend and i visit here often, and would go a lot more if it wasnt so far from our house. The only issue is the staff. I have always gotten the same thing there, with extra sauce, which i typically put on my rice. Last few times i go, every time i ask for extra sauce, its like im asking for something to be flown in from Alaska, they always make a huge deal of it, and half of the time they actually do it. Its disheartening considering they were my fav chinese place in utah, for flavor, service, and value, but now, one of those three very important traits, are mostly gone.

I have only ordered Dragon Diner three or four times and NEVER been blown away by anything ordered. I am a vegetarian and was thrilled to see so many options for myself. The last time I ordered from there we ordered four separate meals, not only did we not receive all the food for each order but my Veggie & Tofu had not tofu. Not only that the Won tons that came in my dinner were thrown into a box with the sweet and sour chicken. Being a vegetarian Im not parcial to chicken flavored ANYTHING. Instead of calling to complain I let it go. When I decided to order from there again, alas, I mentioned these issues to ensure that it did not happen again. All I received in return was rude comments and nothing that even resembled any sort or regret or concern. I have never been so shocked by blatant disregard for a customers request or trying to rectify a situation at all. I will NEVER go to or reccomend this pathetic diner to anyone I know.

And by completely I mean COMPLETELY! Weve been there twice. The first time was for dinner on a Saturday, right during the rush. They had at least 2 large parties, several takeout orders, and most of the rest of the dining room filled, and even with all THAT we were addressed immediately, seated, our orders taken, and served our food within 5 MINUTES of ordering. Never have I seen such quick service in a sit-down restaurant. The food was amazing. Thats all there is to say about it. The second time we visited was mid-afternoon on a Monday. Not very busy. Again our orders were taken promptly. Had soup within seconds and meals within minutes. Good portions and drinks were never left empty. Lastly came the bill. Put simply it was $16 to feed 2 hungry guys and I didnt even finish all of my plate! We will be back to the Dragon Diner.

This is our favorite local place for great Chinese food - and there are many good+nearby options. The snowball shrimp is the one non-vegetarian meal she will break her rules for. The vegetarian lo-mein noodles are delicious (I prefer the house lo-mein but I am overruled by the vegetarian). Their sesame chicken is great, we always choose that over their orange chicken. Something a little spicy...go for the generals chicken (Tso, Gau, seems different everywhere). Getting the Dragon and Phoenix is an alternative to the other chicken dishes above as it offers a mixture of a few different dishes. Ive never ordered something here and been disappointed, and I believe we are down to just one or two items we have yet to try.
