Super Awesome
Weve eaten at B.W. on occasion for years. Yes it looks run down, inside and out. Many of the employees smoke on premises and look run down them selves. But, they make their own sweet-rolls and generally have a consistently good home cooked menu. I should hope that my getting food poisoning is an isolated case, but you never know unless more people speak out about it. If the employees were more sanitary and chose better personal health practices this could be a great restaurant. I am sick from eating the garbage hash prepared at Belgium Waffle at 5pm on 4/30/2016. We usually love it, but this time my kid stopped eating after a few bites and said that it didnt taste good. After dieting and having nothing more than some well washed raw carrots, celery and sweet peppers the day prior to eating the sour dough toast and potatoes with meat cheese and vegi toppings with an over easy egg was a welcome treat that I ate a good amount of. It wasnt as tasty as I remembered it. It is usually delicious. So, I dont know if the food born illness came from the ingredients or those who handled it. An elderly family member refuses to eat at Belgium Waffle because her male server was wearing a filthy apron the day I took her there two years ago. Maybe she is right to avoid dirty apron-ed greasy spoons. This Saturday at 5pm 4/30/2016 as we pulled in to the lot facing the entrance for our to go order of Garbage Hash, I watched both a thin male server and an emaciated looking cook finish their cigarettes at the entrance. I sat in the car and watched one enter the front the other the back door of the restaurant. I am normally very healthy and had been well and quite hungry before scarfing down the to go food. Having not had any more than some well washed vegetables the previous 24 hours I can only think that the my experience came from the off-tasting food purchased at 5 pm from Belgium Waffle. By bedtime I had horrible tasting burps and stomach cramping and defecated four times in 40 minutes. The pain in my stomach and abdomen was terrible. I frequently burped a sulfur taste, and felt acidic from my mouth to the end of my GI tract. The experience put me in bed nearly 12 hours. Sick through the night and now still the next morning with thankfully less diarrhea. I am drinking water but dont dare have anything else until this passes. My intestines are still making rumbling noises. Weve eaten at B.W. on occasion for years. Yes it looks run down, inside and out. Many of the employees smoke on premises and look run down them selves. But, they make their own sweet-rolls and generally have a consistently good home cooked menu. Im giving the Belgian Waffle and Omelet Inn a 5 star rating for a reason and your probably wondering what on earth that reason could be seeing how yes its just a 24 hour breakfast dinner place like Denneys or Dees or is it yes its open 24 hours like the others and yes they all specialize in breakfast but those other breakfast places cant even compare to the food and the fantastic service the breads and the desserts are baked from scratch daily its a mom and pop place that was built to hold a lot of people and to give the salt lake valley an actual cooked from scratch, home cooked, real none cookie cutter or same old same old place to go get coffee and breakfast at any time of the day or night and I am really surprised that almost every time I start to talk about the Belgian Waffle that a lot of people who have lived here in the salt lake area most if not all of there lives have either never heard of it or at the least they have never gone in and tried it but every time I am with a group of people and we are all trying to decide a place to go grab breakfast I recommend the Belgian Waffle 1 for the food 2 for the fact that they are always open and 3 because its really no difference in price in comparison to all the other breakfast places around the only difference is the straight up quality of the ingredients and freshness of the food dont let the looks of the place discouraged you it may not look really modern but it is by far the best place in this valley to go eat breakfast and have coffee and it never changes I even moved from Utah for a couple years and when I came back earlier this year I went back there to see whats new and the only thing that changed was a few of the waiting staff but dont anyone worry if you know anything about the Belgian Waffle old man Joe is still cooking late at night he is still holding down his grave yard shift I think hes going on his 100th year this year so if your up late and you want a dam good waffle or garbage hash and coffee go in and say high to good old Joe hes a mighty dam good cook and you wont be disappointed. You wont be disappointed any time of the day you go in Im really not kidding give it a try and then leave a response to my review and tell me what you think and how your Belgian Waffle was.

My wife, my son and I decided to try this place out since we live only a few blocks down and in short, unfortunately, we ended up deciding we wouldnt return to this place due to poor service and lack of passion in the food. Walking into the place, one word seems to sum it up, sad. We didnt feel welcomed. They sat us down at the booth (without saying much except "this way") and I instantly felt the table was a little sticky as well as the back of the booth where I rested my arm. I love experimenting and trying different restaurants out and so I usually keep an open mind thinking of this bad first impression as a once in few couple hundred customers type of thing. So I looked forward to the service from our waiter and the taste of the food. The waiter came to us and grabbed our order and think I saw her cheek muscles twitching as she forced a smile, haha, but in all seriousness, I felt like she was sad and depressed, which made us feel a little uneasy. But to move on from that (as Im sure she could have been having a bad day and there may possibly be more up to beat waiters there), I looked forward to the food. My son and I ordered the waffle and my wife ordered the pancakes. The food took exactly 21 minutes to get to us and I was excited to dig in. Unfortunately, it just go worse from there. I didnt taste anything that excited my taste buds (even though I was starving at that time) and the only thing to rave about was the bacon. My wifes pancakes, which she couldnt finish cause they tasted dull and the side of hash browns were poorly cut up potatoes that looked like someone masted them up with their hands and threw it on a plate. Sad to say, not a pleasant experience, felt I threw $26 down the drain.
