All I really know about The Smokehouse is that Ive heard it was much better in the past under the previous owner. Also, I know that it was an underwhelming experience to say the least. I ordered my usual "Trifecta" of meats: moist/fatty brisket, pork ribs, and sausage - no sauce on the meats. (My usual order ensures a consistent benchmark for comparing BBQ). First, the brisket at least wasnt very dry (a phenomenon common in SA), but it was the more uncommonly tough and chewy, especially the fat. The smoke flavor was minimal. Nevertheless, the rub was tasty, and one bite of it was even crunchy - a rare and pleasant surprise. Second, the pork ribs were sort of dry and the bark was solid - tell-tale signs of being overcooked. That said, it wasnt really all that bad, speaking relative to the city Im in, of course. Third, the sausage was dry and lacked spice. The only flavors were the sausage meat itself and a bit of smoke. The outside casing was also a bit tough. Like the ribs, they were not terrible, just very ordinary. Fourth, the BBQ sauce is decent and quite sweet. I used it to choke down some of the meat left on my plate as it was dry and fairly bland anyway. In short, Im not sure how good The Smokehouse use to be, but its not a place Im planning to go back to. In the SA area, Im sticking to Harmons and Auggies or for a special treat BBQ from Austin and Lockhart.

Ive been eating at The Smokehouse for many years, even before it was The Smokehouse and it was Bobs Smokehouse. The food here is really good, chop sandwiches can be a bit greasy however. Brisket here is good, and prices are fair in comparison to many other BBQ restaurants. This restaurant is a popular location for people who work and live in the neighborhood where its located. The insides are very homey & country looking. What you might find in a small roadside diner in a small town. Food quality has always been consistent and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new BBQ place to try. If you want some homestyle BBQ this is a good place to go.. Food Quality 8/10 Food Prices 8/10 Portion Sizes 9/10

I got a 2 meat plate. The sausage was dry as others have said. I havent seen fast food serve meat as fatty as the brisket was. I left a piece on the styrofoam plate (and I never do that at mediocre places). Watery beans. The potato salad and store loaf bread tasted decent. The BBQ sauce was a vinegary nightmare from he!!. Thankfully I did not drown the meat in it like I normally do or I would have had to pay for lunch elsewhere too. I cant believe I paid over $11 bucks for lunch at this place. Never again. People who like the food here are depriving themselves of much better places out there.

My family was going to Big Lous to pick up pizza for a huge get together. Me, I did not want pizza (and good thing, cause from what everyone else said, Big Lous is HIGHLY overrated). Saw Smoke House on the way and said to stop on the way back. Upon entrance the aromas of smoked meat transported me to the smoke house. I ordered a pound of brisket to go, along with some pickles and onions. Man, was the brisket good. While the sauce is nothing to write home to mom about, I dont judge BBQ by the sauce, but by the meat. This place is the real deal!

First off DO NOT go off the menu pricing above. They must be from years ago. Ok got brisket chicken pork ribs cream corn and mac and cheese to go. The brisket was good and moist just cut very thick about an inch. Chicken was 1/2 dried out and the prok ribs were great. Cream corn was good and hot. The mac and cheese tasted great but was very cold. Wanted turkey breast but only had turkey legs so did not get any. Maybe next time.

I decided to go here more for sentimental reasons than anything else. That being said, the food was not as I remembered it. I had the brisket plate with potato salad and beans. The brisket was very dry, the potato salad was too sweet, and the beans were too salty. Even though the service was fast and the cashier was friendly, I will more than likely never go back since the food was not as good as it once was.

Best BBQ IN SAN ANTONIO not fancy and cheep over all. New owners keep the tradition alive. Dont miss this great place. And skip the rest of the fancy BBQ place, go to this one the brisket is melt in your mouth and home made sausages is the best .I would put this place up against all other BBQ restaurants on Texas hands down. GPS it or Uber is you down town on business trip you will thank me.

The food was delicious at a decent price. Only complaint, 35 minutes before the restaurant was to close on the Sataurday evening I was there, most of the tables were closed off with the chairs upside-down. And, people were still walking in.....confused.

The brisket was marbled and unbelievably soft. No knives were needed. The turkey leg was just as soft and fell apart with ease. Sweet potato pie was delicious with a hint of citrus. Check the place out.

Traditionally a very good BBQ spot. They have new ownership and a new name the BBQ is good but not as great as it used to be. Make sure to tell them you want lean or marble cut when ordering brisket.

Learning experience. Never again. Paid $10.50 for a chicken plate. Chicken was totally dry and tasteless. Figured Id salvage it with the barbecue sauce, but that stuff was a sad excuse.

Great BBQ, I had the pork ribs and loved them. My friend had the Brisket and Rib plate with Beans and potato salad. He also enjoyed his meal. We will definitely eat here again.

The brisket was dry and nasty, the macaroni was horrible, the chicken was dry and tasted like wood and to top it off I paid $6 for a lamb bone and it was pretty much all fat.
