Ive had Congers Smoke Shack on my list to try for a while. Ive heard good things, but in SA, you hear good things about every BBQ joint. Unfortunately, about 19/20 times I try a place others say is good, it ranges from terrible to mediocre. Thats why I was thrilled that Congers was that 1/20 time that ranges from good to awesome. Congers is actually some of the best BBQ Ive had - better than some of the legendary places in TX. I prefer Congers to Louis Mullers, Salt Lick, City Market in Luling, and Smittys in Lockhart. However, I think the little known Harmons in Cibolo edges out Congers and of course Franklins in Austin is in an entirely different league from Congers and all other BBQ places. The brisket was some of the best Ive ever had. It was definitely moist and not tough at all. The bark even had bites that were crunchy (a super rare and awesome surprise). The flavor was great, albeit if you didnt have a bite with some bark the flavor tended to disappear - failing to permeate through the meat. The smoke flavor was balanced - neither over/underwhelming. The only true flaw, and this goes for all the meats, is that they put sauce on them. As a purist, sauce is not needed on good meat, and should always be on the side, especially for BBQ this delicious. Ill remember to ask them to hold the sauce next time though; however, the sauce was drizzled and not poured which showed proper restraint and actually allowed the sauce to not overpower the meat (so kudos on that - which no one ever really pulls off). The ribs were also delicious. The sauce worked well with these. They were tender and pulled from the bone easily when bitten. They were not dry and had a good flavor. Absolutely nothing to complain about here. The sausage was juicy and delicious - I loved the flavor. There wasnt a lot of this on the plate, and I wish there was as good sausage is truly hard to come by. The BBQ sauce itself was really good - neither too tart nor too sweet with a nice flavor. I also appreciate the toasted slider buns they give for the bread. These were tasty (foodie tip: put a piece of brisket with the sauce along with the baked mac n cheese between the slider buns and enjoy). The sides were excellent as well. The spicy cream corn is some of the best Ive eaten. The gravy with it is neither too watery nor too thick. The potato salad is really... really good. I normally turn my nose up at most, but not this version. I could have eaten a few more scoops. And finally, the smoke house mac n cheese was amazing. It reminds me of the kind I bake a home: enormously cheesy (everything sticks together with a very rich flavor. This was seriously good mac, and I had two scoops. It was glorious. In short, I would say Congers Smoke Shack is the best place within San Antonio itself. The only other BBQ place in town that I actually enjoy is The Grainerys traditional BBQ menu, but its not as good as Congers. I also recommend Harmons in Cibolo (just outside of SA) for a similar if not possibly slightly better BBQ experience and of course Franklins in Austin (worth every hour you stand in line).

Such delicious brisket... Read the reviews and decided I had to try it. Got the brisket, beans, mac n cheese, sweet tea. Everything was tasty. The brisket was very smokey and flavorful. They give a good portion size. I was definitely full when I finished. The sides were above average. I ate all of them so they must have been good. The sweet tea was just right. Most places make thier tea way too sweet but this was really good and not overly sweet. The beans had some good flavor. The mac was probably my least favorite but it was still delicious. I am a mac lover so I am a little picky about this. It was kind of thick so if you like it that way no prob. But it tasted good so I am not really complaining. I wanted to try more kinds of meats but at $12.99 for the one meat plate that was more than I wanted to spend for lunch. Maybe next time. Great job with this food truck. I wish I would have stopped by a long time ago.

I had the "3 Meat Plate" with brisket, pulled pork and sausage. Im from out of state and this place was quirky, but such a different kind of experience I couldnt help but love it. PRICES ARE REASONABLE!! You get a lot of food for your money. Nothing fancy, just good BBQ. First of all, the meat was amazing. I couldnt stop eating. The spicy cream corn was a nice twist from typical corn as a side. The seating were picnic tables outside, beside the smoke shack in a place that must have been an old converted gas station. Either way, it was a cool experience and I highly recommend anyone to try this place out.

Last night we had dinner at the Broadway location, my Son his Wife and my Daughter. We were seated at a small booth, seconds later my Daughter in Law gets bit by ants that under the table, so we move to the picnic table out front. The food comes out pretty quick and the guy who served it was very friendly. I had the pulled pork, coleslaw and fries. The pork taste bland, the coleslaw was sour and the fries were cold. As we all sampled each others food, we conclude that every thing needed seasoning! Finally our waitress comes out and admits she had forgotten about us! I was not impressed with this place.

First time there and i loved it. Brisket sandwich was delicious. Great smokey flavor and very tender meat. There had to be over a 1/2 pound of meat...very generous portions of the sides as well. The spicy creamed corn was new to me, but such a great combination of flavors. Paprika and some type of fire roasted pepper I think was in it. The lady working the window was so friendly and helpful. 4 or 5 picnic tables under the shaded area to eat if you want. I would highly recommend the Smoke Shack.

It really doesnt get any better than this. Every single thing that comes out of this place is outstanding. Dont be put off by the fact that its just a trailer. The pulled pork sandwiches are amazing. The sausage is fantastic. The brisket grilled cheese (thats right,) is one of the best combinations ever. Mac & cheese has their great sausage in it. Seriously. Everything they have is amazing. I just wish they were open all the time.

Best barbecue I have had in Texas so far. The brisket was so tender I could easily cut it with my plastic knife and the ribs had just a hint of brown sugar that made them delicious. It is a food truck but it is amazing! The sauce is thicker than most of Texas sauces Ive had, but still a vinegar base.
