Tarka Indian Kitchen reminds me a bit of Masala Wok in the Med Center before it closed. Focused, smaller menu fit into a small handful of categories (such as curries where you pick your flavor and protein). The store is clean and the staff was generally helpful. The food is also decent to good, but definitely not the best Indian food in town. We tried the vegetable samosas and the garlic naan for starters. Both were tasty, flavorful, and fresh. The former were full of spiced potatoes and accompanied by a nice mint chutney. For our entrees, we received the combo kebabs and the tikka masala. The kebabs were really delicious - the meat, lamb and chicken, were moist and full of flavor. The chicken might have had an edge over the lamb as far as taste goes. The tikka masala had lamb in this version (my choice, good but Id probably prefer the chicken). The tikka masala curry itself was very good, though a bit sweeter than most, which is fine with me. Ive definitely had worse versions of tikka masala around town. The biryani is really just fried rice and lacks complexity, flavor, and authenticity. The vindaloo isnt terrible (though a bit bland), but Ive had far better. In short, if youre on the northside of San Antonio and craving Indian food, Tarka will do in a pinch. However, if youre looking for the best Indian food in San Antonio, youll need to go to the Med Center to places like Kohinoor, Cafe Behar, Bawarchi Biryani Point, and Biryani Pot.

Im VERY stingy with 5-star reviews. This one is well deserved. What a breath of fresh air in a city in need of restaurants with convenient, quality food, at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is casual. The menu offers an array of authentic Indian cuisine. You order and pay at the counter (use your Yelp smartphone app for a 10% discount). The friendly staff brings the food to your table. Esposa had chicken biryani, daughter lamb coconut curry, and I vindaloo. All three were fresh, tasty, and perfectly spiced. We slobbed on two orders of garlic naan bread. They have a small, well focused wine and beer menu. Mango lemonade was awesome. A large number of patrons appeared to be of Indian origin, which tells me that this place is spot on. I dont think well be going elsewhere for Indian food. OVERALL: HELL YEAH! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Food is just a fast food Americanized version of Indian food. It is good to have somewhere to grab a quick fix when you want Indian food, but it isnt great. I dont like that that when you order take out (or eat in) the check out will ask you to tip, it asks if you want to give 5% 10 or 15 I think those are the numbers, or none, but tip for what? I mean in a restaurant I will tip my waiter of course, but what it the tip for when it is a fast food place, especially if you are just taking out. It puts you on the spot and is a cheap shot to get more cash, not classy at all.

1st time at Tarka Indian Kitchen, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, and environment. Its been several years since Ive eaten Indian Cuisine, and upon entering the restaurant my senses were delightfully entertained by the smells of curry and beautiful Indian music playing in the background. Very clean in dining area, as well as the bathrooms. The menu is very user friendly regarding various options fkr spice, vegan choices, and nut allergies too. They have a nice kids menu as well. I will definitely be returning.

I was very excited to try this new Indian restaurant. Went there with my family and ordered korma (Chicken), Tikka Masala (chicken), Malai Kofta, coconut curry (lamb) , and Papdi Chaat. everything tasted like it was previously in a freezer inside of a little cardboard box, then warmed up in a microwave, and neatly placed on a fancy plate in front of me. Everything was just complete garbage. Nothing tasted like real authentic indian food. Ps. The Papdi chaat doesn’t even have real papdi its just regular pita chips.

Okay place in terms of taste, overly priced considering the amount you get. need really big improvement in Naan and rice , they taste horrible. I have told many times specially about these two items but I guess no body cares. Not consistent in taste sometimes its good and most of the time ...u got my point, location is great. I noticed the reduction of quality over the time. It used to be better. I am eating rtnow their malai kofta....oops actually I threw it big blast of salt. Time to drive little further

Great Texas-based franchise. Vegetarian/vegan friendly, as are most Indian places. Ive been very satisfied with the food the many times Ive gone. The menu has a nice balance between standard Indian fare that youll find most places, and a few items that are a little more Americanized (but nothing too far from the norm). Reasonable prices, decent location, good service. Only knock is that their naan is just average, which is more obvious than it would be if the rest of the menu werent above average.

This isnt really Indian food (Jalapeno peppers, for example, arent Indian) and although it started strong has become a fast food restaurant producing a range of sauces on rice. Its never completely terrible but usually not at all memorable and in recent visits the dishes seem to be completely different on every visit depending on whos cooking. This is Indian food for people who only like Tex Mex so its yet another restaurant thats given up on the market.

Tarka is to Indian food what Taco Bell is to Mexican food. Itll sustain you if youre malnourished, but it teeters on the brink of unedible. The worst Indian food Ive ever had. If you plan to try it, make sure you pay in cash so you arent guilted into tipping your "server" (as you order/pay up front like a fast food restaurant). Our "server" brought our order and never returned. Lame! I mean, seriously, the "servers" at Whataburger do more!

I found a rubber and in my samosa chutney. Unbelievable. Also, upon picking up my Togo order, I wasnt handed my order right away, and I assumed they were still preparing it. But after 10 minutes of my pickup time, I still hadnt been given my meal, and upon inquiring about my meal, it turns out it had been ready this whole time. Idk what is going on there, but this is unacceptable service!

Never has it been so easy to get delicious, authentic Indian food that is consistently good. Im pretty (99%) certain they serve Tarkas Chicken Tikka Masala in heaven-- the curry is decadent. Im finally reviewing this restaurant after eating there probably over 10 times. They earned those 5 stars from me, every single time I go, the food is amazing. Thank you, Tarka <3
