I would typically write a 2 and a half star review for this restaurant if you delete the amount of times I came here as a young adult. Service is terrible at this place 3 out of 4 times. I had such fond memories of this place when I was in high school (20 years ago). What happened Fujiya? Its 2015. Why cant we keep up with the times there? Your place looks exactly the way it did when we first started going in the early to mid nineties. The only reason we come here now is because we dont want to wait in line 35 minutes to an hour to dine at a decently run restaurant. Why am I giving you 1 star now, Fujiya? Why am I wasting my time sitting, typing away my frustrations? Because of your over exaggerated shoosh to my 4 year old in front of you patrons. This is the straw that broke my camels back, FUjiyah. I called back to complain (Rule of thumb folks: try to resolve internally before taking a complaint online) to ask for a manager after I paid and much to my amusement, the manager was the one to shoosh my kid. Just go ahead and add another check mark to your family friendly business practices. Its not that hard that after we spend hundreds of dollars a month to dine at your establishment to talk to the parent first. I really dont even think your customers were annoyed or distracted in any way. Nevertheless, Its uncomfortable now. Ive honestly never been embarrassed this way and I dine out ALOT. My kids arent perfect of course. No theyre not running around screaming or anything. The kid was simply getting a little overexcited over a game he was playing on his ipad. Well, back to waiting in line but at least I know my kids arent going to get shooshed and and Im going to get friendlier, and better service. The one star is for the food.

What To Order: Dinner For Lovers (2) Fujiya is my favorite Japanese restaurant in San Antonio. The food is consistently excellent. I always try to visit with someone who will do the Dinner for 2 or "Dinner for Lovers". The 8 course meal is modeled after "a meal created for SteveMcQueen and Ali McGraw when they were in San Antonio in 1972 filming “The Getaway” ". They offer this dinner for both lunch and dinner, with the lunch portions being a bit smaller, but still a ton of food. The "Dinner for Lovers" at dinner time includes a salad and bowl of soup, both of which are excellent. Then a plate of small egg rolls, then a plate of tonkatsu which is some of the best Ive had anywhere. Next up is your chicken and beef teriyaki shish-kabobs, then sukiyaki soup (my least favorite item) and then vegetable & shrimp tempura, finished with a bowl of ice cream. This is a ton of food, and you might leave with a small box of left overs, but the price for it is a bargain. The entire meal for 2 is $50 at dinner and $23 for both people at lunch. The servings are a little smaller, and salad isnt included. Ive also tried the lunch specials which are a decent amount of food for $8 or less. These lunch specials are great, the best Japanese lunch Ive found in San Antonio. Ive been dining at Fujiya for many years and almost everything has been excellent. They will even substitute the sukiyaki on the large dinner, but both people have to take the substitution since the items come out in servings for 2. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese food or is looking for a unique dining experience for 2.

I went here for the first time today. The atmosphere was nice. It would be a good date night location. Our server was also polite and attentive. However, I wasnt impressed with the food. We ordered takoyaki, but I couldnt find the octopus. It was basically just batter and mayo. My miso was sour. I ordered curry rice with pork cutlet. It was a generous portion, but it tasted like it was made from a box dinner and they added a whole onion on top. I had three spoons of it and decided I didnt want anymore and I didnt even want to take it home with me. I let the server know and he took it away. Given that I hadnt been satisfied with the meal, they didnt take it off my bill. Instead, they gave me 50% off the curry dish. If it wasnt for this, I probably would have come back and tried another dish, but I thought that was poor customer service. They should have taken it off all together. We also ordered ramen that was all salt, despite the varied ingredients in it. We ordered some ice cream mochi to try to brighten the meal, but that too had been mediocre. Just buy a box from HEB and pay less. Overall, it was a nice place, with kind service but because of the bland and uninspired food, I would not be coming back. Edit: I forgot to mention we also ordered a heather roll which was obviously very forgettable. It was a bread crumb covered roll to disguise the fact that the sushi rice had no flavor.

I just ate from this place and it was terrible. And though Ive never had authentic Japanese food I know how properly cooked food should taste like. For example, I noticed from my beef ramen vegetables were overcooked, the meat had too much tendon, and the base of the soup - the water - tasted stagnant. Maybe something was wrong with their water in general because my mothers hot tea and my iced tea tasted rancid as well. Her sukiyaki vegetables were an overcooked, sloppy lifeless mess. Unfortunately, we got there at opening time and on top of that, both of us hadnt had breakfast. When we got diarrhea shortly after the meal, we concluded it could have only been the food from the restaurant. The atmosphere was good, the staff was friendly and attentive but the food was awful. Maybe they had a bad day but I dont care to repeat the experience. My brother, mother and I had: fried tofu, ume onigiri, miso soup, sukiyaki, beef ramen, and chicken kabob. None were the least redeeming. The total was about $45.00. Oh, and there were no dango just mochi ice cream. On that note, I rather put up with the attitude from the main hostess at Far East Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant at SW Military because at least they have fresh, healthy tasting food - i.e. the carrots taste like carrots behind the sauce.

Its sad! I first started going to Fujiya when it first opened. For a solid 20 years there was not a better Japanese Restaurant in town. Tonight (8/18/2017) my wife and I had some sushi and the meal for lovers. Frist off the sushi was barely cooler than room temperature. Second, the food within the meal was not good. The pork chop is tough and not breaded correctly. The tempura was breaded so heavily that it was chewy and not nice a flaky. The meat in the soup was so tough I had to pull it out and cut it up with a knife. To top of the meal was our desert. It used to be delicious, but now they add something to the bottom that is bitter and disgusting. Last, but not least, the waitress was, for a lack of better term, an air head. Constantly had to remind her to bring items (and no it was not busy at all, maybe a 1/8th full). For example, I asked for sushi menu. When she finally brought it I had to ask her twice for a pen or pencil to fill it out (10 minutes waiting on the pen). This continued throughout the meal. IT is sad, but this will be our final time here. A Chinese buffet would have tasted better at a fraction of the price. If they do not return to their previous quality I do not see them lasting to much long.
