Food was great; service was lacking. I arrived to the restaurant a bit late in the evening (8pm), so perhaps that is why no one was there to greet me when I walked into the restaurant. I stood there at the entry area waiting for a hostess for about 3 minutes. It turned out that the hostess had been talking to other employees and just was not watching the door. I had arrived alone and wanted a table. The hostess saw me and asked my name. She assumed I had arrived to pick up a delivery. I explained that I had not yet ordered and that I wanted to eat. She seemed surprised. She asked if I wanted to sit at a table, booth, or the sushi bar. I opted for the sushi bar. This was my first time to ever eat at this restaurant. I did not know the procedure, so I sat down and looked at the menu. The employee behind the sushi bar said something to me. I did not quite catch what he said, unfortunately, so I just assumed he was asking for my order. I told him which sushi I wanted and also asked if I could get a glass of tea. He said yes. Then, a few minutes later, a waiter came over to me and asked me what I wanted to eat. Oh....I was embarrassed. I had told my order to the sushi bar guy and that was incorrect. Sigh. I told the waiter that I wanted tea and then the sushi bar guy explained which sushi I ordered. I felt pretty silly. I filled up my little soy sauce bowl while waiting for my food. The food was outstanding. I dont remember the name of the sushi that I picked, but it was one of the ones which has a deep fried batter on it. Very good. Afterwards I had to get the sushi guy to flag down the waiter so that I could pay my bill. I ended up tipping the sushi bar guy for all he had done...and then I went ahead and tipped the waiter...I suppose because it is expected. The waiter really did not do much at all. He had gotten me my tea, yes. But the sushi bar guy prepared my sushi and then handed it to me, so the waiter really had no part in that. I really felt that the tip should go to the sushi bar guy, but then I felt too embarrassed to not leave a tip for the waiter, even though he did not do much. 5 stars for the food. 2 stars for the service (sushi bar guy was great, waiter was meh, and hostess was a fail). Averages out to 4 stars. I will be back. I hope that service improves. 4 stars with hope!

Noms for cheap, cant beat that! Their sushi is THE BEST. While Im not interested in trying raw fish by itself (sashimi), I can tell they probably make it very, VERY well. Food was scrumptitious (I had to invent a new word :P) And the service was at our heels all the time. Try their yakisoba- That hole-in-the-wall place across the street doesnt even stand a chance! Wonderful soup too. Sushi Rolls are up to par and lots more. The atmosphere felt seriously, authentically Japanese, and just as a "seal of approval", our waiter was accidentally speaking Japanese to us! :O At 5-7 weekdays (I think), they have a special deal where you can get 3 sushi rolls for 20$! Ka-ching go the moths in your wallet! You can pay to see the food made in front of you, but usually if you just sit close someone else is going to buy it. xP Overall, I am definitely coming here again. Best Japanese in all of San Antonio, and to prove it, they have a few Zagat awards! You have no idea what youre missing. If youve never tried Japanese before, go here. If you have, go here. My whole family (except me) hadnt tried anything Japanese beyond Ramen (and sushi for my dad) and they LOVED it. My sister (8) Fell in love with the food! You could say she was bouncing off the walls, although it was really the tables. However, she still refused to like it more than our local Sonic Drive-In, which I will review at a later moment. Food: 10.0/10.0 I would even give CRUMMY Japanese food this rating on a sunny day, but this is excellent! If I was depressed, it was raining, my entire extended family had been wiped out by an elite group of assasin hitmen and I had been stuck playing no video games except an Xbox 360 (lol :p) for a year, Id still give this a 10.0/10.0. Thats how good it is for yer. Service: 10.0/10.0, as said earlier, this is the Seal of Approval to the package. Japanese cooking in front of your very eyes FTW!! Atmosphere: 10.0/10.0 This is really good! *0* Just come here and see. Portions: 8.0/10.0 Kinda cheap, as expected from a Japanese restaurant, but in the end filling. Value: 10.0/10.0 This place is cheaper than dirt for all of the things above! I almost want to give this a 20! Average: 9.6 Overall: 10.0 I give you the two above so you can decide what the real score is. No matter WHAT, try this place. Its amazing!

Absolutely hated this restaurant. Dinner on a Saturday night - we expected to wait, but we didnt expect to be given a table and THEN wait for an hour and a half. Worse than that, it took the waiter thirty minutes to bring our drinks to the table. I can maybe understand the kitchen being backed up, but not the bar. Then had to send our drinks back - neither was made right, both had half-melted ice and condensation on the cup, indicating theyd been sitting on the bar for a long time without being delivered. The waiter didnt know the first thing about the menu or Japanese food. Asked him what his favorite item was and he literally said "Everything." He had something in his teeth. That was gross. His clothes were disheveled ... who is running the back of the house? Once we ordered and got our food (it took 90 minutes from sitting down to getting our "appetizer") it was cold and had been sitting somewhere in the kitchen for too long. How did we know? Besides the temperature (could have used it to cool down our watery overpriced drinks) there was congealed oil/butter on the plate, like when you leave a plate in the sink overnight. We didnt eat a bite of it. At this point we wanted to leave, but the manager came after we complained and said he wouldnt charge us for the appetizer, so we got the rest of our food. Worst. Sushi. Ever. The salmon was like a plastic bag in both taste and texture. Sushi rice appeared to be vinegar-less, made like ten hours ago in a rice cooker, and was even the wrong kind of rice (??!?!) which was a total shame. A steak dish (the word "steak" is right there in the name) was more like a piece of dry roast beef or something, texture and flavor were off, the temperature wasnt right. I dont understand this restaurant. They should rename it Horribletown. Will not ever go back. Wouldnt send my least-favorite enemy here. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. OH WAIT, I almost forgot. Remember the appetizer that we couldnt eat, the one the manager promised not to charge us for? Sure enough when the bill came, it was there. I was too pissed and disappointed to argue it, so we paid it and left. I considered it ransom.
