We have been going here for years. As soon as we sit, someone brings us chips and salsa. My wife and I frequently order one of the main entrees which includes rice and beans. However, a couple of times recently, such as today, she wasnt hungry enough to eat a full entree with the rice and beans, so she ordered one Fajita taco from the ala carte menu with a side order of guacamole. While we were waiting for the food, she ate a few of the chips and salsa. When we received our tab they had charged me for my entree and her for the Fajita taco and guacamole, plus an additional $1.25 for a "setup charge". When I questioned this charge, it was pointed out to me that the menu says chips and salsa are for those eating entrees only. I pointed out that the Fajita taco and guacamole totaled about the same price as a full entree, but I was told that didnt matter. Since she had eaten some of the chips and salsa, there is a $1.25 setup charge. We paid the charge but this will be the last time we frequent this restaurant. If they are too stingy to let a "Lady" (my very special Lady) enjoy a few chips and salsa, they dont deserve my business. Their loss because even today and as usual, our lunch tab was about $15. $15 a week they will never see again.

The 1st time I went here I really expected a nice family owned mom & pop mexican restaurant experience, well NOT!!! The food tastes only OK, by no means great. The wervice suxxxxx. Today was the 2nd time I went here and it was only because I was in a hurry and just needed a snack at 3pm to last til dinner. I brought in my own cup and asked the waitress to just put a bit of ice in it as I was running errands all day. She told me the charge was $1, on top of the $6 I was paying for 2 tacos...that was the last straw for me. These people are truly GREEDY in my opinion. To charge a customer $1 for a little ice in a cup they brought in with them is not caring about making a customer for life in any way at all in my book. They overcharge for a small portion of food that is not even great food to begin with. No need to go here when there are other mexican restaurants in the area. One right down the street beside Kroger that serves good food at a good price in a good atmosphere.....My advise GO THERE!!!

TL;DR low quality ingredients, pre packaged foods, bland Third time coming here. I still dont understand the rave reviews about it. The ingredients are absolutely not "fresh." The spinach and cheese quesadilla tasted like it was poured straight out of a can. The sauces are good, but hey.. Its sauce. The salsa for the chips is extremely watery but has a decent flavor. The service though? ABSOLUTELY SUPERB! All the waitstaff have mastered being attentive without annoying. My drink was never empty, I was seated immediately and served chips and salsa. Food came in five minutes after ordering (a nod to how pre prepared, and generally tasteless the food itself is) Will I come back? Not on my own dollar, thats for sure.

Been eating "mexican" food for decades now, ...I went here only because someone from work was treating us over all this time...each of the two or so times they finally chose to go here, everyone except for the old geezer, who had friends there, was disappointed....he told us it was the only place he could get to, anyway My friends kept telling me the stuff tasted just like an el charito TV dinner. Now that Ive tasted the two, I have to agree, actually. . The service was voted "bad" or "below average" by most of our entire group each time....but hey, if they ever get better, I might consider giving them a shot at some future point.

Lived in Denton for years and heard mixed reviews on the place, first and for most this restaurant is not authentic Mexican it is more of a lower end Tex-mex took my grandfather out to lunch here just to try out the food, the queso and chips are bland my beer was more of room temperature so asked for just water the fajitas were chewy must have been frozen my grandfather didnt finish his his fajitas either, our waiter was great though would not recommend or go back.

Great little Tex Mex place. Fantastic service and food was even better. We shared a traditional burrito which was absolutely great. We also got two tamales. They werent all that great for the price. Queso comes with salsa and chips. If you like spice definitely try the green salsa. Overall great place if you are driving through. Even better if you live in the area. You cant beat the little family run restaurants.

My visit was delightful! The best authentic Mexican food to be found in Denton County. The Staff were delightful and attentive to detail. Though my Mom recommended I should not have a Cold Beer on tap. One of my favorites beverages. The fresh chopped jalapeño was very hot, just the way I like them. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Denton. Good Location and worth the wait.

We have been going here for years ... ever since I was young enough to drive. Food has always been great and the service excellent. A big Kudos to the owners for keeping it real ... keeping it delicious ... and keeping it a value option for the whole family. I dare you to walk out of there hungry ... just wont happen. Hope to enjoy the place for generations to come.

5th TIME HERE AND GETS BETTER EACH TIME!!! My wife was in the mood for some Tex-Mex and why was I not surprised, she said Mazatlan of Denton! She had the chicken flameado with a margarita, I had 2 chicken enchiladas with chili con carne(Tex-Mex Style)beans and rice and a miller draft. Ahhh heaven! Their service was again a "10" and their prices extremely reasonable!

I havent been to Texas in almost 20 years, but my father used to take me here regularly. It amazes, yet doesnt surprise me that this place is still running. I have been trying to find another Mexican Restaurant that measures up to the Mazatlan since. Now that I know business is still booming, I may need to take another trip to Texas!

well ive lived in Denton for over a year now, and have been disappointed with the Mexican food here, until I found Mazatlan the food is very good, they have a very diverse selection for vegetarians, and $1.99 margaritas for happy hour. so if your wanting good "real" mexican food at a reasonable price this is the place to go.

This place has a steady flow of costumers that seem perfectly happy with the beer, margaritas and good food. My parents moved here a year ago and they love it. They have always had great service and that counts for a lot. We met there last night and I had the chicken fajita rellano, with a cold beer and lime, bueno!

Best Mexican food Ive had since coming to Texas. Im from Los Angeles so we know a lot about mexican food. The staff was great, took no time to get our meals and they were busy. Prices were very reasonable and the food was really good. Id reccomend this place to anyone looking for good mexican food.
