Being a big time foodie Indian and that too from the capital, I can assume myself as someone who can easily distinguish between good food and bad food. To start with, the moment my friend was parking his car in front of the restaurant, I somehow didnt find the gesture of the restaurant owner too welcoming. By adjusting the parking board, he was indirectly telling us that if you are coming inside then only you should park here. Anyways, we ordered a non veg platter to start with. Everything tasted good except the mutton kabab which was quite hard to chew and looked stale. We didnt complain as it was not much in quantity. In the main course we ordered bhindi masala, dal makhani, chicken tikka masala (which they proclaimed to be their specialty). This was the worst Dal Makahani I ever had in my life. I have eaten at several other Indian restaurants in States, not just in Texas but this is not what I expected and it wasnt fresh at all. Chicken Tikka Masala, anywhere in the world you go, cannot be sweet and at least not sweeter than butter chicken. As per Google, Chicken tikka masala is a dish of roasted chunks of chicken in a spicy sauce. Forget spicy, this was the sweetest chicken dish I ever tasted in my life.It had no chicken tikka, just pieces of boiled chicken in the sweetest sauce they could ever make. Mister owner the big time miser, had only 2 servers in his restaurant taking care of more than 10 guests at a time. They were taking orders, serving food and also cleaning the tables and he himself was busy getting the breads from the kitchen. I am surprised, how this restaurant is managing to attract people. There are better places to go in and around Dallas for Indian food but this is not the one.

I have told myself for a long time that I needed to come and write a review of the Saffron House because I feel that many of the negative reviews seem very extremely negative, as if the person had a personal problem with someone at the restaurant. My wife and I have probably eaten here 10-15 times in the last few years and it remains one of our favorite places to eat in Dallas. Having traveled extensively in India I have a good feeling as to what constitutes good Indian food. We have been to the buffet one time on a Sunday and while it was good, we really prefer coming on a weeknight and ordering off the menu. First off, when you arrive and enter the SH, you are greeted with the pleasant aroma of Indian spices and friendly staff. Usually there arent many other people eating when we dine there, so we can enjoy a quiet and relaxing dinner. The service has always been good here. Occasionally it can be a little slow, but nothing to get upset about because the people are all very friendly. We typically get the same dishes every time because they are so good. We start off with paneer pakoras and usually order paneer kadhai and saag paneer. We really like paneer, but you could substitute chicken (we have) to any order and its just as good. We also order a couple orders of naan which is always cooked perfectly. If I had any critique at all it would be that the prices are a tad high. Wed probably come more often if things were 15-20% less expensive. The bottom line is this - give Saffron House a chance. Its hard to believe youd ever be let down ordering off of their menu.

I have been a loyal patron of The Saffron House for over 5 years and the bottom line is they simply have the best authentic Indian cuisine in the DFW metroplex. Factor in an easy access location in Addison / N Dallas, a comfortable yet elegant fine dining atmosphere and excellent service and the Saffron will have you coming back many times again and again. I have enjoyed both the very extensive and reasonably priced lunch buffet, which includes a minimum of 4 to 5 freshly made vegetarian dishes as well as stand bys like chicken tikka masala and beef curry. It also includes naan and dessert and this all for less than $10...not a bad deal! The a la carte menu is available for both lunch and dinner and is quite extensive and caters to all palates (Veg & non Veg). Entrees include the famous saffron rice and can be spiced from mild to Indian spicy. Some notable selections are the Malabar chicken curry which includes a base of coconut chutney, lamb Rogan Josh has tender lamb in a hearty tomato / onion based sauce. Tandoor items include Seek Kebabs made with chicken or lamb, Chicken tikka, and the Murgh chicken which is whole pieces marinated for 24 hours then fire roasted in the tandoor---spectacular. The Saffron House also offers catering services that are the best in DFW from family events (weddings, birthdays), to corporate parties and meetings and any theme you can imagine. If you havent tried the Saffron House you havent had true Indian cuisine in the DFW area.

We have been going to The Saffron House for a good three years now. I decided to write a review only now because I see that there is a lot of negativity in the reviews of this place especially about the owner and stale food sometimes. First, I think that the owner really knows how to run a restaurant. Yes he is a little loud, emphatic actually when he talks but is always courteous and always personally walks up to the guests and greets them. I do not know why is this not acceptable. Secondly, I would say that the Indian food especially the north Indian dishes that they serve are the best that you could ge here in the US with the given resources and raw material (the chicken quality, spices, condiments etc). I am an Indian from north India and can tell good Indian food from bad. As far as their dishes being stale, it is only the rice that are sometimes reheated but for the most part, food is fresh and very tasty. Their staff and service is great. I think that the only things that you look forward to when dining out are-The ambience and service, food and a little touch of importance. We have been getting all these from Saffron House for the last three years and hence according to me it is the best Indian restaurant in Dallas. Try Mayuri and some more like it and you will know the difference and what exactly I am talking about.

i think most of the excellent reviews here were written by the hotel owner itself :) .... to start with the food, i went for the saturday lunch buffet, to be frank the food was awful.. if you have ever had indian food before you will never go to this restaurant, almost all the side dishes were cold, straight from the fridge, cocunut chutney, mint chutney, they were all cold, then the south indian medu vada... i have never had such a worst vada in my whole life, if you throw that vada on a glass door, the glass will break for sure... its that hard.. pathetic... moreover if you want to have the naan (indian bread) you have to ask the server each time.. moreover they wont respond that quickly as well.. there were few gravies, the goat gravey was ok.. but nothing extraordinary... for my shock.. there was only beef briyani... i have never seen a beef briyani in an indian buffet ever in my life.. i have lived in UK, italy and here in US, never seen this.. if you want to spend your on a good food.. dont go here... my humble advice..
