We went to Rain on 34th the evening before Valentines Day. Every chain was packed..but who needs chains, anyway? Wed never tried Rain before, and thankfully, there was no line out the door. The restaurant wasnt crowded, but steadily busy, and short-staffed. The two waiters were on their toes the entire time, but always friendly, smiling and apologetic about the wait. Rain has fantastic cooks. We had the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. The BEST in town! When my significant other ordered them, I had visions of those overprocessed, over-breaded sticks-from-a -freezer-bag that you get at Sonic. Nothing like that here. These are homemade. They were huge - but not ridculously so like the ones Spankys serves - lighted breaded (almost a tempura type batter, very light and unobtrusive, adding just enough crunch and contrast to the melty mozz)...just ooey-gooey deliciousness. Thehomemade Ranch dressing for dipping complemented the sticks perfectly. A plate of five sticks was more than enough for two people. We had breakfast for dinner, and both meals were outstanding. I had the vegetable omelet with diced potatoes. The omelete was LOADED with veggies, including baby spinach. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, not a hard, undercooked one in the bunch. A good, housemade salsa accompanied the meal. My sig other had the chorizo omelet with hashbrowns. The servings were generous and priced lower than similar meals at IHOP and other chain breakfast joints. We are always on the lookout for the great offbeat, hole-in-the-wall, locally-owned eateries in a market dominated by chains. Rain will be a regular stop for us from now on.

Rain Cafe doesnt look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. These friendly folks server great Southern comfort food. It doesnt get much better than a home cooked meal that you dont have to cook…..or clean up after! The restaurant itself is small and nothing fancy. They offer a nice variety of good food, including daily lunch specials. Both the Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Fried Chicken were generous portions and were more meat than breading. The salad came first, followed by the entree with Texas toast, fried zucchini and mashed potatoes and gravy. If you want something lighter, they serve breakfast all day. The service is friendly and they come back to fill your glass and check on you. This is exactly the type of meal you want to find when you travel – a restaurant that cooks like grandma did!

Our favorite local breakfast place in Lubbock. Staff is always friendly and quick. Prices are very reasonable for the huge plate sizes. My favorite dishes are the their bacon/egg/cheese burritos with their homemade salsa (and this is the good bacon;) or the Belgian waffle with their fresh blueberry cream. The fresh squeezed OJ is absolutely refreshing and delicious; the coffee is just ok, but passable if you need your morning fix. Definitely prefer Rain Cafe to the big chain breakfast restaurants.

This cafe style locally owned resturant is a wonder place for Lunch, Breakfast and Dinner. They have a number of all day breakfast items and a pork chop that is huge for only $7-$8! My recent visit was during a time which is busy for surrounding resturants which made for a plesant and quiet visit. Dont take the lack of crowds as a sign for their food, as they have amazing dishes. Come in and check out this friendly staff and cozey place!

I love to come here for breakfast any time of day. The service is always great. You never have to wait long for more coffee even when theyre slammed. Its busy in the mornings, but never in the evenings. Im all about the crusted French toast. They recently redid the interior and the layout of the tables which makes it look more spacious. Cant go wrong for good food and a classic cafe feel.

I had to ask our service for everything twice.. we order cheese stick before we order out food and we got everything at once.. and everything was cold... there was no manager in the build to talk to bout the service we got today... so I had to pay 30 for food we didnt even eat... they told me to call the other store so I did and that person hung up on me twice... never again.....

Good food, slow service. We eat here fairly often, and every once in awhile, theyre reasonably fast. The rest of the time, its a waiting game. Today we got here at 11:45 and there were at least 6 tables still with breakfast dishes on them waiting to be cleaned. From door to door, we were in the store just over an hour - not a very practical option for a weekday lunch.

The food was pretty meh. I had the ham and cheese omlette. The flavor was really bland. It didnt have much ham and I couldnt even taste the cheese. It came with toast and hashbrowns. The toast was cold when they brought it to the table. I doubt we will be coming back.

They did a renovation that takes away the charm it once had....it had one waitress on duty and the walls and floor are grey....gone are the plants and the things that made it homey Like the counter next to the kitchen. I just wish they had bought more comfortable chairs.

Their breakfast and lunch are amazing. The crusted French Toast melted in my mouth and the scrambled eggs were perfect. My husband had a club sandwich which had thick, Thanksgiving style turkey and fresh veggies. Definitely a Lubbock original to visit!

First time I visited Rain Cafe, I wanted waffles. Fortunately for me their waffle iron was broken. I say fortunately, because I discovered the best French toast in Lubbock that morning. It has become my new favorite breakfast/brunch place.

What a great experience, great customer service, great food, and good prices. It was packed when I went after church on Sunday, but I think that just shows its quality.

Food is fresh and served in a timely manner. Great customer service. My waitress was Claudia. She never let me see the bottom of my coffee cup. Prices are awesome.

Had a good sampling of the menu a few times. Wonderful hand-made food. Usually a little light on the staff, but its very much worth it.

Weak coffee, decent food. I had the chorizo & green chile omelette, which came with a biscuit and hash browns. Mm!
