So I am on a very limited income and to eat out is a huge treat. I was excited when things worked out for me to get some bbq first time in DFW area. I recently moved here from Houston. I ended up here, near the house. As I approached, I noticed the "Guns Are Welcome" sign on the front door. Being a 2nd amendment advocate myself, I was really prepared to love some North Texas BBQ from Red Barn. Being particularly hungry, I went with a baked potato with chopped beef and an unsweet tea. I saw him get a huge scoop of the already chopped meat, then I saw the potato he was putting it on. I have gotten bigger in a 10# bag at Krogers. So I dont know about around here, but in Houston when you order a potato with meat, you get a meal for 2 or maybe 3. The meat qty was excellent, its just that usually you can see the potato a bit after the meat is put on. I am used to a good independent bbq house having super large potatoes. Even enough that I am sure they must get first pick before anyone else. I chose spicy bbq sauce instead of sweet that was also offered and the girl behind the counter put some in a little cup. I chuckled and told her that I was going to need a lot more than that. She filled a second one and walked back to the register. Ok then. So I scoot down to the register and order a tea. Only one size drink available and it was $2. Totaled up to just under $12. Usually when I get this it is almost right at $10 with a drink. So this is one of the places that has condiments on a separate counter to get yourself, but personally, I hate that way. For example, I took my potato to the little counter got 2 little cups of real butter and 2 of cheese. Normally I would get more for sure but I guess thats with a real size potato. My problem is that the butter should go on first, to melt in the potato and then cheese for the heat as well, then the meat and sauce last. So obviously I cant just plop the chilled butter and cheese on top,so I cut and mix up all the food best I can. I dont always eat this meal like that. Myself and others I know eat some of the beefy potato with it not all blended like a plate of dog food. So the food was absolutely delicious, minimal fat in the beef is a big plus. I am extremely picky about the sauce. To me, this makes or breaks bbq. I personally actually dislike the sweet sauces, and the spicier the better. This sauce ranks with some of the best I have ever had!!! I will not fault them for having the separate condiment bar. The tea was nice and strong. I will return but probably get bulk order meat and sauce and take it home.

Small (but well themed) atmosphere/dining area, service is quick/friendly (BTW, cafeteria style dining - no servers), meat was tender/moist/tasty/amazing (I had the chicken) and the sides were familiar to most BBQ joints. Ive probably driven by this Colleyville staple more times than I can remember and I finally decided to try them out when I was having my wifes car fixed at City Garage next door. Id say that my visit was great, but not excellent. Like I said earlier, the chicken was delicious, the sides were pretty ordinary, and while the employees were nice (especially the manager); I had to wait for someone to help me when I tried to get a dessert (manager had stepped away and the only employee around was busy on their phone). Not that big of a deal, but what made it disappointing was that they didnt have their "famous" banana pudding available at the time (I settled on the cobbler). But I liked the food and could see myself come back one day so this visit wasnt that bad. FYI, they have an All-You-Can-Eat thing on Mondays, but Im not sure what it is that they serve.

3 Stars = Good, not great. The good: - very BBQ "shack" atmosphere. Small, quaint, Texas, authentic. - decent menu - price is good for the area - meat was good-ish The "Not Great" - I asked for "moist" sliced brisket... What I got was NOT moist (fatty) - I dont put sauce on brisket... It shouldnt need it... Theirs needed sauce. All in all, clearly better than a chain like Dickies, but nuthin special. Hard 8, for instance, is hands down a better choice.

Love red barn! We used to live in the area but since we moved to Fort Worth we still make the trek anytime we want BBQ! The young guy who I think is the manager is great, however we have experienced a few times when there were just teenagers working and they do not provide very good service. The food however is ALWAYS delicious!!! Also, please note that they are closed Sundays! Monday -Saturday 11am-9pm. Closed Sundays.

Good, modestly priced traditional BBQ. Twice Ive been in when the staff "forgot" to start the fryer when they came in, meaning that fries and onion rings werent available for lunch, and a few times Ive been in when there was no one but apathetic teenagers behind the counter. If someone whos emotionally invested in the business is in the house its a totally different experience.

Liked it, but not so great I would go out of my way. Had a rib, brisket, sausage plate. The rib and brisket were OK, but not too much smoke flavor. It was the jalapeno/cheese sausage that I liked the best. The bbq sauces were very good. Came in close to closing time, the kids working there were helpful and courteous. FYI, it is BYOB.

NO Red smoke line on sliced brisket, suggesting oven baked, NOT Smoked. New owner/management skimpy on portions. Sweet Sauce is watered down and spicy hot with a sour taste. Friend and I saw a rat leave from under restaurant. Ham was cooked dry and rubbed with spice, Ruined Ham flavor. Ate here for last time, gets worse each visit.

Finally tried this place. Great brisket, a nice combo of moisture and crispness. Really enjoyed their spicy BBQ sauce. The sides were all awesome and enough to fill you up. Had the potato salad, macaroni salad and okra; all were flavorful. I loved the atmosphere inside, very homey and relaxed. My four year old approved as well.

Used to be my favorite BBQ place. Still pretty good. Quality can be variable. Recommend the sweet BBQ sauce which is the best. If they have it, invest some calories in the banana pudding. Its the best Ive ever had, but they only serve it about 10% of the time for some reason. Service is always real good.

Great barbq i had the sausage plate with sweet sauce and beans and fried okra it was all very good. Had the pecan pie cobbler it was amazing never heard of it. Service was great. Would highly recommend only reason i give 4 stars is it is a little pricey. Definetley try the sweet sauce if you get a chance

Horrible experience. Our food was absolutely disgusting. The french fries were very greasy, the corn was like rubber and I cant even comment on how bad the meat tasted. My two year old wouldnt even eat it. I do not recommend. Also very pricey and stingy with BBQ sauce that I was paying extra for!

pulled pork sandwich is top notch with perfectly buttered bread and i am a huge fan of the sweet sauce got the regular sausage and it was good - they have jalapeno sausage also the sides look good but are not great, although i do enjoy their broccli slaw (has golden raisins in it)
