My husband and I visited Hard Eight BBQ restaurant for the first time yesterday. We were less than impressed. Quite frankly, I wish I were able to give this restaurant NEGATIVE stars. We had visited the proprietors website and were extremely excited. We were traveling through Stephenville. We both wanted steak. We each ordered a Prime Rib. Hard Eight BBQ is a "common" fast food/cafeteria style restaurant which poses as a "label" BBQ/smokehouse on its website. We ordered our steaks. Our steaks were thrown on top of pieces of butcher-paper on cafeteria trays (no plate) which we carry down a cafeteria style food pickup line. After picking sides (which were pre-prepared and served sealed in Styrofoam containers), requesting our desired drink choices, paying the cashier, filling our fountain drinks, and sitting down at a table, our steaks had slid in numerous directions on the cafeteria tray creating blood smear patterns to and fro between our selected sides. I had "one" bite of my prime rib. I set it aside to be taken home to my dogs. This was a piece of cow which had been sliced off, thrown on the grill for two seconds without any imagination of seasoning or preparation and thrown on a cafeteria tray (no plate) and handed to me. We were required to clear our own tables and throw away our own lunch refuse and return the cafeteria trays as if we were at any given type of fast food restaurant such as McDonalds, Whataburger, Burger King,.... at least when I have eaten at a fast-food restaurant such a these the food and prices are comparable to the expectation of received service. We could have purchased pre-prepared sides from any grocery store. Purchased a steak, prepared it ourself with infinite more imagination toward seasoning and a flare of preparation and presentation then we received or observed at this restaurant with little more effort than it took to stop at this restaurant. I would mention something about the service but to be honest there wasnt any service. Additionally, seated there over a course of 45 minutes or so, we did not observe any tables wipe clean after patrons cleared their tables. Save your time and your hopes of eating a great steak at a great BBQ/smoke house resturant for another restaurant--- NOT Hard Eight BBQ!

Went here on Wednesday July 1 2015 6:30 ish, there was a nice line and was greeted nicely by all staff. I ordered Brisket, spicy sausage and a couple of chicken poppers. For sides I had the Cole slaw and beans. I tried both the spicy and mild sauces - I liked the mild but the spicy was sort of flat and one dimensional in flavor that just seemed off with the proteins I ordered. The brisket, the pit master pulled a new brisket unwrapped it and then cut my portion from the lean flat side without asking my preference for lean or moist. It was disappointing in flavor and texture, as the meat had little or no smoke flavor and was mealy and dried in texture. the best way to describe it was over braised pot roast. the spicy sausage was OK, not the worst I have had and not the best either. the case had a reasonable snap the flavor was not bad but you can tell they used brisket trimming as there was a similar flavor to the brisket and again it was light on the smoke flavor. The sides I tried ( slaw and beans) were flavorful. They may have just had a bad night or I didnt get their "wheelhouse" items they do well every single time. Their service was really good, all the people with the exception of the pitmaster were friendly and attentive. Id go back for one more try just because of that.

This review is regarding a private party of about 20 people at the Hard Eight BBQ in Roanoke. I called a week ahead to ask about a party area and was told there is a semi-private patio for a small group and a private room for a large group. The manager took my name and reservation for the semi-private patio. There is no cost to reserve the patio, and we were allowed to bring our cake for dessert. We arrived just before our reservation time, found a server to ask about our reservation and were shown to the patio. We had the entire beautiful patio to ourselves for as long as we wanted at no cost! The patio is on the corner of the building overlooking the small main street, and it appeared to have roll-down covers for a rainy day, but our day was sunny and warm. It also had two sets of doors, so it seemed very private to me. We all went through the food line and enjoyed our patio for two hours. An employee came through a few times to clean our trash area of utensils and trays, which was very helpful. I highly recommend Hard Eight Roanoke for a no-fuss private party, especially on a wonderful patio-weather day. We all had a great time and thank the restaurant for giving us a memorable experience.

Good old Texas BBQ! Looked on yelp when we came in the area and followed the recommendations here. Love the decor, a big wooden lodge with hunting decorations all over. I came with 4 guys who all got the rib eye special and they raved about it. A 16 oz steak cooked on a big coal grill with 2 sides and a soda. The steak was on very well seasoned cast iron plates and cooked with what looked like a lot of seasoned butter. The steaks also come with grilled onions and Serrano pepper. $22.50, a good deal for sure. The BBQ is in a HUGE smoker. Its by the pound (12.50 a pound or so depending on the kind of meat. I had the brisket and the sausage. Both are really good, though I do prefer my brisket to have more texture (they were falling apart). The sides are good too, love the corn bread salad and make sure you get the roasted corn! I also liked the apple cobbler, though would have liked more apple in there (very bread heavy) The complimentary beans are cooked in a big pot with bacon and Serrano peppers. Tastes great, a nice change from baked beans. My friends said the Mac and cheese was nice and cheesy too. Definitely need to make a trip here of youre in the area and experience the BBQ!

Stereotypical road house / feedlot atmosphere, "standard gamut for Texas farm and ranch restaurant lifestyle" great for first impressions on decor for out of state guests . However the food is unimaginative, expensive and average. Ribs are decent, brisket on the other hand is bland, dry and tough. Certainly much better quality BBQ joints in the DFW area for discriminating foodies and connoisseurs on a mission to seek out totally fine Texas BBQ. Frankly if you are encouraged to consume average BBQ, save your money and go to Sonny Bryans, Dickies, or Rudys for less and better proportions. Bet The House BBQ located in Denton, Texas is giving everyone a serious run on their money, putting many to wannabes to shame and possibly serving up some of Texas finest in DFW.

This was my first visit and the place was empty. So I immediately thought this was a bad choice for lunch. But as soon as we entered Santa was there waiting to serve. Santa was on the pit and prepared my plate of chopped brisket with a baked potato. After we paid and were leaving, Santa appeared out of know where and asked if we tried the beans? We said no, but before we could finish the sentence. He told us to wait right there and ran inside and got us some beans to go. How wonderful was that? Santa provided the best customer service!!! The food was good, Santa was nice and friendly. And it was like I received a gift from Santa on yesterday. I will definitely be returning. Thanks Santa!!!
