Ive been going to Back Forty for a long time, but recently I have noticed some disappointing changes. They are less generous with their portions, less meat on the sandwichs, not filling the sides all the way, etc. That happens sometimes at BBQ but its been happening consistently there lately. For example, I went there for lunch today and got banana pudding and they put it in a small to-go cup. When I asked her why they werent using the big cups she said " its the same portion size", and she seemed really put out by my asking. It was half as much as I used to get and its definitely wasnt worth $3.50. My sandwich had less meat and my coleslaw was half full too. As far as the quality of the food, it has always been good. I like their sauce, and their meat is flavorful and moist. But when the portion sizes start to shrink, and the staff has a bad attitude, it makes it feel like the place is starting to go downhill. Today was the first time I was disappointed that I chose Back Forty for lunch.

FINALLY a bbq place in the Fort Worth suburbs thats worth revisiting. This place has the best meat AND the best sides of any BBQ place, local or chain, within 30 miles of downtown. Sliced beef is tender with a delicious crust and needs no sauce to add flavor or moisture. Ribs have a fantastic rub and perfect texture. The potato salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, and beans actually taste homemade instead of like someone just visited the Kroger deli for bulk purchase. In addition to a huge dining area, this place has a large seating patio with mist fans that gets packed when they host a musical performer or radio station. Give this place a chance even if youre jaded with the typical mediocre bbq joints in the mid-cities area.

Not all that happy. We ordered a large to go order and the customer service was less than satisfactory. We waited for over 20+ minutes to check out/pick up our food. The workers just stared at us while waiting on other customers dining in. They did not offer us any help or assistance. We had to figure it out on our own. We then had to go behind to counter to get our food, and take it to our car. After leaving the location we got a call saying that our cobbler was not with our order. So then we had to turn around and pick it up. The excuse for the unpleasant service was that they were short handed. But we saw plenty of employees working? The food was good. Customer service however was not up to par.

Great atmosphere at Back Forty Smokehouse. I tried a three meat plate and while I usually am a huge rib fan I sometimes judge on brisket as I believe most bbq joints just dont try very hard. The brisket was an excellent moist cut with nice dark edges, just the way I like it. Good sides and the coldest beer in a giant mug. I would seriously consider stopping by if you are in the area especially on live music night out on their giant patio.

Love the food here! We have been here twice already and will definitely be back. Meats moist and tender. Great kids menu. Love all the food, including delicious desserts. I was slightly disappointed with the apple cobbler (it seemed dry), but could have been how the server smooshed it into the ToGo container. Maybe it will be better eaten fresh at the restaurant. Peach cobbler was delicious!

NEW FAVORITE IN NW DFW First try with new owners/business and I must say WELL DONE. FOOD: Tried the 3 meat plate (brisket, ham, ribs), Dublin soda, and a slice of pecan pie. Okra = great; mashed potatoes; Ranch Beans = sweet, not hot, but great ALL THE ITEMS WE TRIED WERE GREAT DECOR: All items appear new and clean. A mash of rustic and modern... SERVICE: GREAT!

Been searching for some excellent bbq.....SEARCH OVER! Forget the chain bbq places. Forget the over priced ones as well. Back Forty is hands down THE SPOT! Meat is seasoned perfectly. Cant emphasize that enough. If u love Burnt ends, look no further. This IS THAT place!!!! However, I will say, the ribs can be hit or miss at times. Outside of that, this place is great!

Currently my go to BBQ place. Brisket is always tender and good though sometimes a bit to fatty for my taste. Meat potatoes hits the spot at times. Other non traditional items are good as well. Love their banana pudding. Atmosphere is the best in local BBQ. Only complaint is that they can get skimpy with the portions on occasion. Otherwise I recommend.

Good food cooked right with tasty flavor. Brisket comes in a choice of lean or moist. The BBQ chicken is good, but the pulled pork is pretty dry, and needs some sauce. The sides are pretty good, with the fries and okra cooked just right. Its usually crowed around eating times, but the line does move well. Theres many TVs with various sports playing.

I have been here 3-4 times and been stuffed every time. Good food, cute little bar area. It is PACKED outside on Thur/Fri/Sat nights because of live music. I havent been to those events but it looks like a fun time. Parking leaves much to be desired but it is a small price to pay. Occasionally there will be a Groupon so hit that up first.

I only gave them 2 stars because they have rude people working here. The food isnt fresh towards the end of the week (Wed-Friday). They start giving you the scraps and throwing your food together towards the end of the week; I guess when theyre running low. Best bet would be to go on a Tuesday. When the food is fresh.

Not the best but certainly not the worst. I wasnt a fan of the bbq sauce, a bit too sweet for me but other than that it wasnt half bad. The ribs and the brisket were my favorites. The staff was very friendly and quick to offer a refill. If youre nearby by and have a hankering for bbq you should certainly stop by.

Fun venue to get tasty grub and listen to bands on weekends. Use to be a feed store and barbershop at one time. Old timers recall when Smithfield Main was actually still in Smithfield Texas not a North Richland Hills annex. Wait I remember the feed store and Smithfield.. Which I guess makes me an old timer.

Great flavor good atmosphere, service was good. One major drawback. Every meat we ordered....turkey, brisket, ribs, chicken, and sausage was not hot. Some barely warm at best. Too bad too. The flavors are very good. They do know how to cook the meat. Just need to figure out how to keep it warm/hot.

I was a HUGE fan of this place which is why I hired them to cater my wedding and they did not disappoint! The food flew off the tables and the only thing left was onions!! Thank you so much for keeping it warm as long as you could. My only problem was that I didnt order enough brisket!! LOVE it!!

Sliced brisket baked potato was belly-stretching good. The mac&cheese is for kids 5 & under or the elderly. I wasnt even tempted to taste it just on looks alone. But the young kids ate it up. Well totally go back again. So far its the best bbq in mid-cities. Love the spicy bbq sauce & pickles.
