Oh come come what do you expect for a local truly Austin, 60s/70s American style diner that has literally been in existence, same spot and all, since the "chill hippie days" of the early 1970s? Everything on the menu is less than $8 per item and the veggie burger is also vegan. the hummus plate is also vegan, all varieties of fries are also vegan, and none of them have soy (you heard that correctly)...the mushroom (portabella) burger can also be made vegan just ask for no cheese. Otherwise all these are vegetarian. And no soy! There are of course the standard meat items and not-vegan items too like eggs, migas, hamburgers, and so on, and actually good news: none of them have soy! I have several friends with soy allergies so I am meticulous about this. Also everything is cooked, vegan, vegetararian, or meat in non-hydrogenated organic canola oil :) .... delicious and good for you! The menu probably hasnt changed since the early 70s at least not much and there are only about 20 items on the menu in total but it has breakfast, lunch, and dinner literally 24-7 including holidays, what more do you want? I hear it is even nicer during the daylight but I have only been at 3 AM when every other place except Magnolia Cafe (which is the best for 24-7 dining in Austin, but it is more expensive), Kerbey Lane (2nd best), and 24 (3rd best and really kind of expensive you can blow too much money for the simplest thing there, ugh) is closed. Very comfortable, Austin, 1970s, booths, relaxed atmosphere, little hippy hole in the wale place, has everything you could need and for just 1 person without ordering alcohol (which you can at the usual hours of 8 to 2 am M-S and 12 to 2 am Sundays as according to state law, and they have some nice drinks I have caught when I have been there at 1:30 in the morning lol that is definitely the earliest I have been there)...anyway for 1 person not ordering alcohol just some good traditional hippy American style food and cooked quite well quite delicious and everything it will never be more than $16 (that is assuming you eat 2 times what most people eat) and that includes if you tip very generously, a little more than the standard 15%. The service is very nice, such sweet and attentive girls who work there who always remember me and are so cool that if I comment "oh I like this song" they will put on more songs like it for you and if you didnt know who it was by etc. they will tell you. Really surprsingly good orange juice too, it is fresh squeezed! So come on folks for the price and for being what it is and open 24-7 one of only 4 restaurants in the entire city which is so, this place is best of the best! You will be comfortable have great service and great food. It is not fancy and it is not meant to be and thank god for places like this which still exist. :) It opened in 1973 and still feels like 1973, and not because they spent a fortune to fake you into it, because they have just kept the place the same with of course a few typical normal upgrades for health and the well-being of the place and everybody etc... so few places can honestly claim that. Enjoy for late-night/early morning adventures! Did I mention everything on menu is available at all hours at that including tip one person who eats 2 times what a normal person eats including a generous more than 15% tip will never spend more than $16? OK then! Enjoy non-pretentious hippy relaxed happy nice down to earth people everyone wanting high end only stay clear please and spend your $20 for the exact same thing at 24, lol, fools...really not to be mean but this is my honest observation.

I can not express how much I utterly hate this place. Such an awful place and Im mind boggled it is still around, must be because it serves terrible under cooked disgusting food to drunk people in the wee late hours who have no idea what they are doing anyways. This place is such a sorry excuse for an establishment. I had under cooked french fries, yes apparently that is possible. Im assuming the cooks are all on something so they didnt realize when they took it out of the deep fryer. The ice cream was beyond freezer burn it was just straight up old. The service is laughable. Waited for our checks for seemingly years, got it but of course it was incorrectly split. On top of that the waitress never came back to get our checks so we had to walk them to her. Out right ridiculous and awful.

While its open 24 hours a day, the food isnt really worth going at any time of the day. Theyve got a huge selection of food. I got the pancakes with some hashbrowns, and my friend got the grilled cheese which comes with chips. The pancakes were arguably decent, but the hashbrowns had 0 flavor and werent crispy or anything (outside or inside), despite being golden brown on the outside. The grilled cheese was basic and the chips were 100% carbon copies of Lays potato chips (kettle cooked). The price was cheap, but so was the food and experience. The people working are great though.

Came here looking for a pleasant cafe with good breakfast. And We got it. The menu had all the classics, albeit with some unique titles ;-), and even some meals many other cafés only have a la carte. Like mine, the cheese grits breakfast was delicious. My boyfriend couldnt even finish his biscuits sausage and gravy plate. The waitress was also attentive and polite. The atmosphere was very Classic Austin. All the stuff you hear about. Pictures of the owner and his dog hanging up. I was charmed for sure. We will definitely be revisiting.

I went here to get a club sandwich and fries (both which were pretty good), but when I asked the waitress if she could turn down the music, she gave me a bunch of attitude and this stuck up "are you retarded" look as she went and turned it a barely noticeable bit down. The servers here have always made me feel uncomfortable and/or unwelcome, they are highly unprofessional and have terrible attitudes. The food was decent but the service was H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E.

This place is great. Quirky Austin vibe and great modern diner fare. Open late, after show great. The coffee also always rocks. Thats important at 3am and 3pm. Anyhow, went in earlier this afternoon and saw a new face. Jason was handling the whole floor and was easily the best service Ive had there. That was nice, it was just a quick/casual meal, but that made an awesome difference. Thanks Jason, you helped make our afternoon.

The menu is extensive, the atmosohere is perfect and there was no issue taking our time to order -- no pressure to push the customer out. The food was good but Im not sure we got exactly what we ordered. We ordered the migas and neither of ours seemed to have any tortilla chips which I think is part of the point of Migas. Anyway, Ill go again should I be passing by at 3 AM again.

Star Seeds is my favorite place in Austin. Husband and I are here for our honeymoon, and this is the only place weve been twice. He works nights, so we live off of 24 hour restaurants. And this one had the best atmosphere, food, and prices. I got an awesome flat iron steak meal for less than $15. And the mashed potatoes are other worldly. Highly recommend
