I ordered unsweetened iced tea, as I usually do, to go with dinner. It didnt taste right, so I asked the waiter to pour me some from another batch. He offered to make up a fresh batch, which he did, and that was only a minor improvement over the first. I asked for water, which he brought. The water was where the odd taste was coming from. Most restaurants have purifiers, usually for the specific purpose of getting rid of minerals or other content that make it through the water utility. In this case it either wasnt installed or wasnt working. At one point I lived a few blocks from the restaurant, and I recall the tap water there having a similar taste - it basically tastes like the Colorado River (the river that runs through Austin and Travis County), which is where the water comes from. I used to patronize that location all the time, and usually had great tea. I would order refills and ask for a to-go at the end. I dont know if the issue is a non-functioning filter, the kitchen staff isnt paying attention, or the management is trying to upsell. While my visits there are far less frequent now, Ill probably go back in a few months. Hopefully theyll have it fixed.

We went for my birthday dinner to the research boulevard branch. It was one of my "not so good " restaurant experience. We are a group of Asian hotel workers supposed to be enjoying a nice birthday dinner. The waitress was in a hurry getting our order. We were halfway with Our appetizer and salad, surprisingly without asking our main course were served right on our table. Before I get to my steak it was almost cold already. The steak I ordered was supposed to be medium rare but it looked like its was cooked earlier or been too long in a heating pan that it was served well done. The waitress has nothing to say but to leave our food on the table and turned around. I was looking to our next table and they been treated and served pretty good. Smh I would not eat to any of your branches and I will campaign to all of my friends and hotel guests not to even come close to this poor service , rude attitude food chain.

Took one of the people from my co. there for a holiday thank you dinner. Service was OK, not great but not bad. Waitress brought out the wrong steak, 12oz Rib eye done medium, I ordered rare. Finally got the right steak and it was thin and full of connecting tissue. Finished meal with coffee. First cup was sludge the second was water...ARGH! Asked to speak to manager on duty about challenges. She made excuses, told me I should have ordered the bigger steak and said "If I Really Wanted It" they would make me a fresh pot of coffee. $21.00 for a steak and if I wanted a "good one" I should have bought the next size up...really. I will vote with my wallet and maybe you should as well. F/U 1/6/14. received a call from the manager who was very apologetic. said give them another try and he would make sure it was a good experience. More after the meal...

Food felt over priced to me, I ordered the salmon oscar for almost $30 bucks I expected it to be better. My salmon was definitely burned to a crust. I had already complained on the salad so I just ate it. Who ever decided to put fried asparagus under the salmon with drizzled butter and what ever else was in it made it kinda soggy. The kids plate was bigger than my daughter, lol. Get smaller plates! Oh and one more thing the hostess was terrible she kept trying to tell me where my daughter should sit. I dont think so! Not what I was expecting for $80 buck dinner. Waitress was very nice. I think this place is overrated, I only came here because there arent many choices as select members to go in austin, next time Ill just drive to SA for my Birthday.

Went in for an early dinner. Ordered the Filet, butterflied & well-done. Received a pink steak (medium?). Send it back. Received what looked okay. Later noticed that only half of it was cooked. Did not send it back again. Only had half a 6oz steak. Pretty sad, as I usually eat a lager steak at Roaring Fork and Flemings. The rest of the food was okay. Not great. No beer selection, unless you want nasty stuff like bud, coors, miller, etc. No local beers, at all. Floors were very dirty. Horrible country music (this may be Texas; but, it is Austin) blaring from the ceiling. Bathrooms were very dirty. Staff was acceptable. Though, not very attentive to the customers. Probably wont return.

I hadnt been to Saltgrass in years, but I loved it in the past. I should have left the memory alone. I went on my birthday and ordered a 12 oz. NY strip, medium rare, seared on the outside. The steak was so over seasoned (with Im not sure what, as it was not mentioned on the menu), that I could barely see the poorly attempted searing. The cut of the steak was awful. There was so much ligament and fat in the cut that, out of 12 oz., I might have eaten 4 edible ounces. I left most of the steak on my plate and my friend took it home in a box for the dog. No one even asked how my meal was after it was served. Unbelievably disappointing.

Wed been let down a couple times at the competition but after our first visit to the Saltgrass Steak House, were hooked! The food and service were amazing. The atmosphere is comfortable, rustic and we felt like we belonged there. Of course, we ordered steaks! I like mine rare and my wife likes medium well. They presented both steaks at the same time perfectly cooked to our liking. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious and the desserts were sinfully delicious! They are priced just right too! I dont think we could find a fault on the first visit at all and will surely return and try other menu items. Well done Saltgrass!

The steaks seem rather expensive. Several variations of 8oz top sirloin dinners were $20. If you want a class steak it looks like they are about $30 plates. Since the high prices were kind of a turn off, I ordered chicken fried steak instead. My piece was mostly breading. The first couple of bites contained no meat, I was just eating "deep fry" batter. I also ordered a salad, which I was told was $2, but when the bill came, it was $3. The salad was drowning in overly salty Cesar dressing. With tax and tip it cost me over $20 to order off the lunch menu, no drink included. I wont ever choose to eat here on my own.

Less than impressed... 1. Steak Butter? WTF?!?! What is with this, it this an Adkins thing? GROSS. 2. Sweet Potato, they serve it but dont have a clue what they were doing, it was not cooked or served properly. I think their cooks need to go over to the Roadhouse and see how it should be prepared. 3. Onion Strings, one of out party ordered as their side and got the bottom of the barrel, all cold little bits of greasy breading. 4. Steak itself, was average, nothing special at all. 5. Service was slow, never once got drinks refilled, had keep bugging the waiter for more bread.
