I come here from time to time, to see if there has been any improvement and for the teriyaki steak. I have also been to the branches in both Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. Compared to the other two, the food here is subpar. Poor consistency when it comes to the entrees. When its cooked well, its good, but that is only about 40% of the time. The katsu is what I was really looking forward to when they opened, since the other two branches cook it so well. Here, however, the katsu is often over cooked and the breading does not bind properly to the meat. The katsu sauce also tastes more sour than the other branches and this is enough to ruin the experience, as the sauce is what normally brings it all together for me. The miso soup is more salty, making it difficult to finish. The hibachi is also saltier by comparison and the other hibachis in the area definitely do it better. If your end goal is hibachi or good miso soup, I recommend going elsewhere, like Kobe right nextdoor (if you dont mind driving a bit further out, Ichiban also provides a great hibachi experience and Mikado has the best miso and katsu of them all). I can say that the teriyaki steak is consistent, and if I dont feel like gambling on the katsu or other entrees, then I can at least know there is one thing here I can enjoy. The chocolate cake desert is also worth trying. The steak and desert is what brought this from 2 to 3 stars.

DO NOT GO HERE. We waited 45 minutes for our chef after seated at table. Another table who was seated after us got a chef at their table 10 minutes before we did. Our waitress was terrible. She forgot our water, and after she forgot my husbands wine, she brought over pinot noir (red) instead of pinot grigio (white). She then explained she didnt know wine. When we paid with our coupon, she rang in the wrong one. She then told us it was her first week. The chef was terrible as well. I have never seen as much butter being used to cook with, and everything got a real "healthy" dose of soy sauce, so nothing had a unique flavor. The soup tasted like dishwater, and my scallops were so fishy, they were inedible. The vegetables were also served last. My husband hates when I complain, so this was a nice $60 out the window. We will NEVER be back and urge everyone to go to any other restaurant before this one.

We really enjoyed our first time experience at Sakura. My husband ordered the hibachi and I ordered sushi. Our cook arrived but then oddly left before starting any food and we casually mentioned this to one of the servers/hostesses as it had been an hour since arriving. Our year and a half year old enjoyed watching the hibachi, but we knew her patience was running thin. We were able to eat about half of our food but requested boxes and the bill before the cook had finished the rest of the tables food. As we were leaving the hostess handed us an envelope and apologized for the wait. We were shocked to find a $10 gift card. We will definitely be returning. The food was excellent.

Ordered fried dumplings from a manager who finally noticed we had not been served yet. Our server finally asked us if we had been helped after he had walked by our table 20+ times serving everyone around us.This was 20 minutes after being seated and getting up to ask the host stand if a server could stop by once they got a chance. Our server never asked us for drinks or anything else. Took our food order and we saw him once more when he dropped the check. We ordered 5 rolls of sushi, they were good and very well presented. Unfortunately, the very poor service left a lot to be desired.

Went in for lunch on a Monday with my 3yr old daughter. The portions were HUGE and everything was cooked perfectly. Quality was WAY above Kobes! They even served us fried noodles which were not even listed as part of our meals. Hibachi dinners were half off, score! I only have 2 small complaints. The soup was gross! I eat a lot of asian food so I know what i am talking about. The other is just that the other Sakuras in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo have the Fusion roll as part of the lunch special and they do not. I will def go back, just wont be getting the soup next time!

We went here for a birthday celebration for my mother (50% off her hibachi dinner). All three of us loved the food and agreed that it was better than Kobe. The only downfall that will deter us from returning to the hibachi side is the level of noise. The acoustics would be awesome for an opera, however the crashing and yelling tend to ignite the inner ear drum like a jolting pierce. This could possibly be a great deterrent for return visitors. It would be an easy fix.

I went in with a reservation for 5 for a bday party. No Wait. Awesome, Friendly hostess and waitress. Very fast service on drinks. Our chef, Tito, was fantastic! Lots of jokes and great hibachi entertainment. The portion sizes here are what you expect at a hibachi reataurant. There was so much food it was ridiculous. Prices are what you would expect for hibachi. Bday special is bday person gets 50% off their dinner

I got the Teriyaki chicken which was incredible. My wife got the crazy crab roll and that was awesome. She liked it so much that she got a second to-go! Our waiter was amazing. He took the time to help us figure out what we would like before we ordered, and was attentive while we ate. Not so much to be annoying, but enough that if we needed anything we didnt wait long. Would recommend this place to everyone!

I went here with my hubby, and we ordered sushi rolls, sashimi, and walnut shrimp. The sushi was delicious, sashimi was too expensive, and the walnut shrimp didnt taste as good as it looked. The place seemed pretty tight, the waitress who was serving a table right near us basically had her whole body in our area. Overall, I dont think I will be going back to this place with my infant if it is crowded.

Only reason I am giving two stars is because of the chef and how entertaining he was. You get lots of food however if you dont like garlic this is not the place. Everything tasted like garlic and they use garlic butter for their fried rice. We both walked out of there and agreed that this was the one and only time we would go here. Like I said if you love a lot of garlic you will enjoy this place.

Great food, one of the best fresh sushi bars in town, also great live hibachi show/dinner as well as a wide selection of Japanese, Thai, and standard Chinese dishes all done very well. The service can be a little hit and miss in the regular dining room, and they dont necessarily time the dishes so everyones food arrives at our even sometimes near the same time... But it is absolutely top notch.

Excellent! Food was amazing. We sat in the restaurant because their was not a wait and Im glad we did. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because were were waiting a while for food and they need to hire more waiters and another hostess. But regardless of how short staffed they were, they were still very polite and tried their best to get to us quickly. We will go back for sure
