I have always loved On The Border!!! I recently relocated to this area and had only had excellent experiences with the ones from my home state of Oklahoma. My two young daughters had never tried it, so I assumed it would be another great experience and they would love it too! First of all, parked and entered the entrance by the bar (where the carry out orders are picked up). No one was located at the register, no one acknowledged that we had walked in or were wanting to be seated. So we walked through the restaurant to the front door area where the hostess was waiting for someone to approach her. I requested a booth and she quickly responded by telling me they were all "pretty full" but asked if I would mind sitting in the bar area (with two young daughters). I agreed that it would be fine since the entire area was empty except for one table of 4 men. She walked us around to the far side of the bar seating to a booth, she quickly arranged the menus on the table and stated someone would be right with me. Before I sat down I could see the table was wet from glasses that had been sitting there and there were visible signs of food/crumbs on the table and seat. So, I quickly moved to the next booth. Just a few minutes passed and she was already seating another group in the same area as we had been seated and even tried to put them into the same booth (the dirty one) we had just left. I made sure that I said to her and the patrons that "that table is dirty", so that they wouldnt be sitting at a dirty table. The patrons thanked me and she said "Oh sorry about that". Never did she offer to bring (fresh clean menus) or make sure that someone attended to the table promptly so that it wouldnt happen again. After being waited on and receiving our food, I ordered the mango chicken salad. My girls both got kids meals. The salad lettuce was very lacking in color. I would say at least 60% of the lettuce was very old and not fresh and green. It was nearly colorless and faintly brown on the edges, but more big chunks as opposed to fresh fluffy green and leafy. The remainder of the salad was good, but the main content - the lettuce was very poor and not a condition to be served at a restaurant of this caliber. After being highly disappointed in the food that I received, I look up to notice that the hostess is bringing yet another group to sit at the dirty table and seats them as well. I was past the point of frustration or sharing with anyone. We only saw our waitress one time and I had to ask her about the kids meal sundaes that come with a kids meal. She didnt offer or ask if the girls were ready for them. I had to ask for refills as well as my check. It just was an overall bad experience for me. I would have to say that customer service was extremely poor. Being in management myself, I cant believe these situations existed. I would recommend that on Sunday at the pinnacle of the lunch hour, having someone attending the "to go" register, plenty of people to bus tables, competent hostesses who are more aware of generally everything and a floor manager observing that these are necessary needs.

We have been to this location multiple times and have received average service but this last experience was by far the worst. We arrived late afternoon for a quick dinner and there was a hand full of tables seated. We were greeted by a guy named "Weston" where he began to seat us and take our drink order. Moments later he came with drinks and went ahead and took our order. We waited for about 20 minutes and wondered where he went and how much longer for the food. We then noticed him in the Tortilla station flirting with staff members. Another 10 minutes went by in which another staff member brought our food out. We then realized one of the orders was wrong. When the same guy came back to check on us(not our original server) we let him know. He then walked over to our original server in the same spot he had been in and told him the situation. He rolled his eyes and didnt bother to come and fix anything. The simple fact that he didnt come back to our table and make things right was what irritated us the most. It was almost like we were bothering him with our table. Forget the fact that he never came to check any refills. But not too long after he walked right past our table to sing happy birthday to someone elses table. I would like to thank the other server by the name of Shawn who took it upon himself to finish his job and check up on us the last little bit of our visit.

Insensitive to different cultures!!!! We are vegetarians and have visited the On the border in Dallas and Plano in the past and have loved the food and service there. The one in Allen is however a DUMP. My wife and I visited this place on Aug 26th and specifically told the waiter that we do not eat meat and ordered vegetarian dishes. To our dismay, we were served Chicken Enchilladas. I understand that it could be an innocent mistake and this is not a big deal for a majority of the folks who eat meat- however, what upset me was the attitude of the manager and the server. They behaved as though nothing happened and blamed it on the chef/ cook. They offered to swap it with the original item but it was too late as my wife had taken a bite into her dish and this was the first time in her life that she had meat. Disgusting attitude and service. STAY AWAY!!

So sad the service has fallen so here. Literally waited 10 minutes on patio being ignored as were other parties. A father from another party followed me in as well. Said they had been there longer. He confronted Christian, apparently the manager. I thought Christian and that guy were going to have a physical altercation. We just left rather than follow that act.

Good food for the price. Have been going here every Friday for many weeks. Love the Southwest Tacos, their Guacamole and my favorite Strawberry-Mango Margaritas. Only down rating is at times you get real sticky glasses holding the Margaritas, poorly mixed Guacamole, or flat tasting chips. But that is rare. Love to have drinks on the patio.

Came here with friends, but will not be returning. Good food, but terrible service. Our server came to confirm our drink orders three times before even taking our food orders, then was completely unavailable until delivering our checks. The restaurant wasnt busy and this might have been a fluke occurrence, but I wont ever return to find out.

I received the wrong meat with my order. I didnt eat any of it. When I finally sighted and flagged down my waiter to explain, his response was to repeat "so youre okay with it" several times. No, sir, Im really not. And you repetitively asking/telling me that Im okay with it does nothing to solve the issue.
