Food was okay Service was subpar Prices are definitely affordable!! We were seated immediately, but our server did not come to our table for about 10 minutes. We went to the restroom and an employee exited the stalls as we entered. When we went to wash our hands their wasnt any soap in the dispenser. My sister and I were worried how the employee was able to wash her hands thoroughly as the sign states on the mirror. As a customer, eating with utensils, you can get away with using hot water and hand sanitizer, but as an employee when you are directly handling food I believe soap and hot water should be used. Even if they have a sink in the kitchen, customers need relief that employees are taking that step to sanitize. Once we got our drinks, the table near us who came in well after us placed their order first with our server. It was disappointing to be over looked and to have to wait additional time. Silverware and handkerchiefs were dirty, so we asked for sealed to go silverware and extra napkins. Nothing remarkable about this place that you cant find at any other Mexican restaurant. Sweet tea was really good :) The taco shell my taco salad came in was yummy!! My friend wanted shrimp added to his nachos but the server said it was an additional $6...we thought that was a bit much. Our server was nice, but he was inattentive, and couldnt give us his thoughts on some of the meals we were asking about. My suggestion would be to have all employees sample what is on the menu, so they can give their honest opinion and feedback. Customers really look for that..especially those wanting to try something new.

Chain tex-mex restaurants get a bad rap because people want to look cultured if they know an obscure tex-mex restaurant but Ive been going to this particular El-Fenix for years and its always been one of my favorites. I usually get fajita nachos and they make them the correct way by making individual nachos instead of other places that dump everything together. Their fajitas are pretty good too. Their Margaritas are THE BEST in the land of DFdubs. Their Chile Relleno did leave a little bit to desire but Their enchiladas and especially chicken and/or spinach are great. I wish they would fix their machine that makes chips because they used to be the best ever, nice and puffy. But its a good place, dont listen to the haters.

Im rating this 0 stars but thats not even an option here. We arrived just after 9pm and were seated by a man who might have been a manager but unsure. He walked over and started talking with other customers to our left and never looked back until 5 minutes had passed. Other employees kept looking our way but never walked over for a drink order or even offered chips and salsa. We finally got up and left after waiting for about 9 minutes. No one seemed to notice or care. We cant imagine what took place for the lack of service. The restaurant had about 20 other customers so its not like we were there too late in the day. The restaurant had 45 minutes until closing time.

El Fenix has really went down hill!!!!! It use to be our favorite restaurant until about 5 years ago. I am 50 years old and have been eating here as long as I can remember. In fact, when all my family from out of state would visit, it was tradition to meet at El Fenix for dinner. My family and I havent ate there in 2 years because of the continued poor food quality and portions size. They changed management or something and it went down hill fast. Before, We ate there every weekend and the mgmt and staff knew us and every aspect was awesome! Its a damn shame they have turned into this!

My brother, sis in law, and I say El Fenix is our favorite restaurant! Have to go there at least once a month. Food always delicious!! Manager friendly. My only complaint is the waiters arent friendly, dont smile, sorta sling extra salsa and chips on your table. Same with tea and water refills. Maybe they are overworked? Just no relating to customers. Its odd. Oh, my brother had the vegetable enchiladas last time (full of zucchini and yellow squash). He said it was great! I love their spinach enchiladas! And you cant beat their chips, salsa, guacamole, and margaritas!

We had a "very" bad experience. My daughter & her family took my son and I for lunch. This was our first time to El Fenix. It took over an hour to get waited on. In addition, anytime we need beverage or chip refills, we had to wave someone down to get them. It took almost another hour to get our food and, guess, what? Of course, it was not hot or fresh! VERY DISAPPOINTING!! We spoke with the manager twice and she didnt care. She said theyre always very busy and theres nothing they can do about it!

Food service atmosphere and prices great. Down side is they display the 51% sign which says 51% or more of their income is from the sale of alcohol. I think they didplay that sign illegally. No other El Phoenix we have frequented display that sign, unless this is new corporation wide! Follow up: After mentioning this to the manager, the 51% sign went away. All they display is thev30.07 rule prohibiting open carry just like all other El Phoenix do.

My husband and I went late on a Friday night, no wait and seated immediately. Thats where the good experience ended. We sat at a table for fifteen minutes apparently invisible to wait staff. They were there, milling about and talking to one another but not a one looked in our direction. After fifteen minutes we walked out hungry and still looking for dinner. Try Paesanos Italian restaurant right up the road- same price range and great service.

El Fenix has always been our favorite go-to place. Our families have taken us there since we were kids. The chain, started by the Martinez family in Dallas, is almost a hundred years old. Since the family sold the chain, the service, and especially the food, have become unpredictable. When the restaurant follows the original recipe (as they claim they do) it is a good experience. Other times, not so much. We are always hopeful.

You do not stay in business as long as El Fenix without the taste, service and atmosphere to keep your patrons coming through the doors. I have dined at this El Fenix for many years, sometimes for the classic enchilada meal, sometimes to try something new, and rarely disappointed. Great place for any occasion, for two, for family, for a group of friends to enjoy a good meal.

Worst tex-mex experience in years. Margaritas had zero liquor and a nasty chemical aftertaste. Chips were good, but the cheese dip was watered down and tasteless. How do you mess up queso dip? It defies logic. . . No matter how decent the cheese enchiladas are, if you cant get Margaritas and queso dip right. . . That may be the unforgivable sin of tex-mex.
