Poor service tainted our experience at Carlos and will keep me from coming back. We came around 7 on Saturday evening and was told the wait was 30-45 minutes. Totally understandable. We went across the street to grab a drink and came back to check in with the hostess exactly 30 minutes later. She told us it would be a bit longer but should not by too much. I checked in with her again about 10 minutes later and she told me there were a two tables in front of us but we were be up soon. Another few minutes go by and about four tables finish up at once. She told us that one of those was ours as soon as they were able to clear it off and reset it. Great! A bus full of a sports team pulls up and gets off - turns out they had a reservation but were late and their tables were given away. Well, the hostess decided to bump everyone who had been waiting and give those tables to the sports team. I get that they had a reservation but they were late and people, like us, had been waiting for almost an hour at this point. I checked in with the hostess one more time - she told me that there was one table in front of us and that we were next after them. She seated the table in front of us and I was prepared to get seated promptly with my party. Hostess comes outside and calls another table of four. I decided to confront the hostess, explaining how we had been waiting, what she told us and how we were supposed to have been the next table. She promptly argued with me, saying that everyone has been waiting, the team had a reservation and had to be seated and how we were supposed to be more understanding - absolutely, incredibly rude. A few minutes later we were seated. I was so turned off by this place already, despite the wonderful things I had heard about their food. The food and ambiance was good - our waiter was great too. But the experience with the hostess completely tainted the visit. The hostess did not check in on us during our experience dining with them nor was anything comped from our bill - I figured maybe she would at least attempt to right the wrong. Silly me. Because of this experience I will NOT be returning to Carlos. If I want North End-quality food in Boston I will stick with going to the North End.

The restaurant provides great quality and portion of food at its given price point, probably the best in Boston. I have tried both the pasta and risotto and they were amazing. If they offer specials, I highly recommend choosing the special over the regular menu (not saying the regular menu is awful); their specials never fail to disappoint me. The only drawback of this restaurant is probably its crowded space, but other than that you cant really ask for more!

Best Italian restaurant in a long time and maybe the best for the money I currently know in the U.S. - Excellent food - the Caprese Salad very good, with greens and small cheeses at temperature, the fish special (Red Snapper) excellent and so it continues. At $50 per person with appetizers, beer, wine but without dessert we were very happy. Portions are healthy - consider an appetizer and a main course to share. Loved it and will be back when in Boston.

This place is very cozy and nice to go on a cold night. The food is great, especially when they have lasagna as a special. The chicken parm is also good. The wine is well priced and the staff is very nice and helpful. For me its not worth the wait or trek but it is a good option if you are looking for Italian in Allston area, which there arent many good palces.

Carlos has the best Italian food in Boston for the price. You wont find anything else like it! If you dont want the hassles of going into the North End, you can find better food at better prices at Carlos. The restaurant is small, so sometimes there can be a wait, but its always worth it. Great food, the waitstaff is fun, and the food always comes out fast.

Great tasting food and generous portions from the apps to the entrees (Enjoyed my wifes leftover lasagna). Best calamari Ive had in a while with no hint of being overcooked. Swordfish is better than what Ive had at upscale restaurants. Great service from a friendly staff. Very enjoyable experience for my wife and me.

One of my favourite Italians restaurants. Unfortunately their restaurant is a little bit too small and if youre near the door it can get chilly in the winter. The food is excellent and comes in big, hearty portions. Try to come in at a less busy hour to avoid a wait (I dont think they take reservations)

The service varies depending on who serves you. The female manager can be mean and she treats people unequally. Food is fine but make sure you are fully aware of the price before you order (especially the specials for the day, as they are much more expensive than the menu items). Not worth the price.

Surrounded by crappy eateries, this small cozy Italian ristorante serve huge dished of fantastic pasta prepared with good quality ingredients. Prices are even better than what you would pay for a 2-days old reheated slice of pizza around Brighton av. Birra Moretti is served.

Carlos is a north end quality italian restaurant hiding out in Allston. The brushcetta is delicious. Ive also had the Pasta alla Patrizia and it was SO GOOD! You cant go wrong with anything at Carlos. A bit on the expensive side compared to most Allston restaurants

Whats Italian for "Resplendent and fine?" Whatever it is, that. Great food, excellent service. The owner is a cool dude, tries to learn your name and treats you well. Good wine selection, food can be expensive but youll get at least 2 meals out of an entree. Feed me

Super friendly staff, no frill dining experience, amazing food, large portions, reasonable prices! Will definitely recommend to others. Tried the Linguine con Frutti di Mare (spicey tomato sauce with seafood) and it was really good!

Great food, very attentive to our friend with her gluten allergy, very accommodating as we showed up a but late for our reservation and had to leave at a certain time for our next event, quick service, decent prices, great servers.

Terrific food, friendly staff and reasonable prices is what youll find in this small Italian eatery. Although the chicken Parmesan is their most popular dish, just about every item on their menu is a home run. Enjoy!

We made a reservation and they had us waiting in the cold outside for 30 minutes. They lied to us that they were cleaning the table and when I confronted the owner she had a few more excuses. Unprofessional!
