A few of my friends and I visited Queen of Sheba for an evening of Ethiopian cuisine. This was our first visit to this particular restaurant but have eaten at a countless number of Ethiopian restaurants prior to. In the beginning the server appeared to be nice, but quickly became annoyed by the questions we were asking about the items on the menu. After receiving the food we all agreed that the meal was not as good as many other Ethiopian restaurant weve attended. We ran out of drinks and it took the waitress 15 minutes to bring us more drinks after talking to the next table for that entire time. We then later ran out of injera which took her another 15 minutes to bring. I then noticed that there was a Hispanic man in the kitchen so I asked the waitress if the cook was Hispanic and she replied with “yes… but he has been with us for 20 years.” I did not like the fact that they had a Hispanic man cooking authentic Ethiopian food. Once she brought out the check she never asked if it needed to be separated so there was one ticket for 4 people to split ourselves. She later came back and took our money individually. My meal was approximately $18, I handed her a $20 and said she could keep the change (now I know that $2 is not the recommended 15% of what my ticket was but something was better than nothing for the poor service and food), one other friend did the same thing I did but the other 2 friends did not tip at all. Once the waitress returned she asked with an attitude if the service was poor, she then went on this long rant about no one at the table tipping her and offered to give our tip money back but we insisted that she keep it. It was an overall bad experience there. The food was prepared by a Hispanic man and it was not the best I’ve had and the waitress became offended because we did not tip her for her poor service. No offence to the cook but that’s like having a black women in the kitchen cooking Chinese food!

Alright, Ive been to this restaurant three times now.. FIRST visit: Stood around the entrance for about 5 or so minutes and it was busy in the restaurant. It was annoying because everyone was just starring at us and there isnt any seating to wait. There were plenty of tables, mind you. After we were seated and ordered, it was great. Really busy and different. Excellent presentation and flavors. Hot and fresh. Appetizer arrived in a timely manner. SECOND visit: I double checked their website to see if they were open. It was and it was still 4 hours until their closing. When we walked in, there was NO ONE IN THE FRONT but I heard voices in the kitchen. We stood around the door AGAIN for 10 minutes; walking loudly, opening and closing their door, it was ridiculous! We left. THIRD visit: Stood around the front AGAIN for 5 minutes. There was another table seated. We chose what we wanted while we stood around. When we were seated we saw a 2 inch black ROACH crawling on their draperies by our table!!!!!! We changed tables, but should have left now that I think about it. We got our main dish, finished it. They forgot our appetizer and served that to us well after our meal. The food is great, but this place needs better management. The waitress is always sweet but I can tell they really dont care about what theyre doing here. I dont know if I can come back after seeing a roach, and waiting around every time SUCKS.

Stopped by the Queen of Sheba on the back end of a 3-day visit to Dallas, and I sure am glad I did. This was one of the best dining experiences Ive ever had........and this is coming from a native Ethiopian! This beautiful, elegantly furnished restaurant is spacious (can easily and comfortably accommodate 100 plus diners) and exquisitely clean (especially the restroom). But more importantly, the food (especially the meat portion of the entree I chose) was delicious. I had the Lamb Tibs and Kitfo (beef tartar) combo, with cottage cheese, red lentil stew, and collard greens as sides (along with mitmita and awazae spices.......for those who are not familiar with these terms, they are sides that you can dip the Kitfo or Tibs into if you want to spice it up). The restaurant staff was also courteous and friendly. I have lived in the Maryland-DC area for more than 15 years, and dined at most of the restaurants there, and I can comfortably say that the Queen of Sheba ranks among the top 3, and surpasses all in elegance, ambiance, and cleanliness. Will definitely dine here again next time Im in Dallas.

So I was really looking forward to going here with all the ratings and reviews I also looked forward to my first experience at an Ethiopian restaurant. With that being said I had to give this rating but it is still a generous rating. Understand that this was only my experience on a night that maybe was not typical for them. PROS: Great look and feel, good food, great concept (ordered Queens Dinner). CONS: Understaffed, took us almost 2 hours to get our appetizers, the special treatment was rushed, given water but never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Our table of 7 was served two at a time and with about 5-7 minutes wait before next persons food came out (other patrons were getting their platters in between time) Our honey wine came when food was almost finished after we had asked for it several times and our coffee and dessert came out right with it. All rushed in the end as we came at 6:00 but didnt leave until 9:30. Now please note, I leave this review but also do not mind being educated on if this is typical so I can try it again, but maybe eat before I come versus being hungry!

Although the food is great the service at this restaurants spoils it all. During my visit to this place, we had a veg and a non-veg eating groups and even after we specified it clearly to the lady waiting on us she brought it all together in one dish. After we asked her to get another veg dish she made outrageous comments like we should not waste free food assuming that she would have to give us the second veg dish for free. We had not even thought about not paying and decided that if she did not add the second plate to the bill we will insist on her adding that. But to our surprise even after we had to hear all her rude comments, she added the plate to the bill and also (even after we were only a party of 5) added 20% gratuity. It completely ruined my entire experience at the restaurant and I suggest that anyone else visiting Queen of Sheba make sure you are extremely clear about your order to avoid spoiling your evening, food and mood. If you are lucky you will have the right person waiting on you and enjoy the great food they have to offer.

- Mothers day (2017) - amount of staff= 1 - 2 items missing from order (basic Ziti w/Marinara) - Water wasnt served until 20 mins after order as taken - Staff (1 person) never repeated order to confirm - Wine served after entrees came This is our experience from today, wonder how they keep repeat customers. Looked like they were shuffling orders between tables, 2 out of 4 entrees came to our table then the tables that came after us got 1 or 2 of their things... so 1 couple started their food and we had to wait for ours. Didnt want their food to cool down. Appetizers came after wntrees were half done. Kids orders (Ziti w/marinara) never came, Linguini w/ clams never came. Kids had to resort to snacks we had in our bags. 7pm arrival, 8:25pm (Order is still not complete) Had to cancel remaining orders to get home for Monday morning schools / work. Aint going back to this place. So called "Manager" showed no remorse for their action. Good luck going here.
