I had so much hope for this place being in the same realm as franklins or blacks or Micklethwait or for you dallas crowd, pecan lodge based on the reviews I have read of this place and at $20/lb for brisket, I would hope for amazing. I ordered the 1 meat plate with brisket, Cole slaw, and hot squash. Unfortunately the brisket fell short. Looking at that dark crusty bark, I had such hope it would give me good pepper flavor and possibly a locked in smokey profile but I only got an inkling of both flavors. I needed to add the BBQ sauce to bring some more of it but way short of what 4 or 5 stars should bring. My slices came from a new slab which they gave me from the middle section to extract more of the moist top flat. The moist section of my slices was moist with most of the fat rendered but came with too much lean. As for the Lean, it was a bit chewy(not dry though) but again not much flavor. Color wise, the meat was on the lighter side and no sign of any smoke ring. I would rate the brisket as a 3 out 5. For sides, the squash was great. Hot and peppery with a bit of a crunch and the meat nice and soft. The Cole slaw I had mixed feelings. It is mustard based which I like but it had this straight up and center mustard seed flavor which was way overpowering unless you eat it with meat to balance the taste. I just couldnt eat more than half before my taste buds said stop. The other sides looked good but havent tried them as this is my first time here. For bread you get a choice of corn bread or a couple of hush puppies. I chose the hush puppies which to me had a burnt dried up taste to them. Not even honey could save them. if I were you I would choose the corn bread. Maybe next time Ill try the chicken. Overall a 3 out of 5 for this place.

Today, I and friend visited Slow Bone for lunch after a business meeting in the area. I must say that the customer service was amazing!!!! However, my tastebuds were deceived by that highly atrocious, most awful, terrible tasting and evasive nondigestable food. At first I was angry with myself for choosing such a place. Then as time past, I removed the blame and placed it with its rightful owner. Slow Bone. I was given the option between cornbread and hush puppies and again i was taken a for a loop. Thinking the chose i made wouldnt have been as terrible as the cornbread. To no surprise, the hush puppies stood out as dry rough 80grit sand paper balls. Outstanding!!! Which brings me to the mac and cheese that everyone is raving about. If you call a bowl of wet noodles lightly cheesed, mac n cheese at all? #tasty. Last but not least, the dry bake bean poppers. The beans that pop while chewing. Really? Get the f##k out of here. Oh and thanks for the moist unseasoned smoke sliced turkey and the magneficent price of $17.15 that came along with unsatisfying fullness. So, if you want good service, a terrible and i dont use that term lightly, meal that is over priced. By all means check out Slow Bone because I wont be back.

If you have not had the pleasure of going to Slow Bone then I truly believe you are deprived of one of lifes greatest experiences. In all honesty there are amazing bbq joints in Dallas, of course, we are all aware. To me those big players in the bbq game deserve that reputation and accolades they receive, but in my opinion highest honors belong to The Slow Bone. The meats are always perfectly smoked and moist with the perfect subtleties of their signature flavors that make this place unique shine. For a bbq pit you normally dont venture beyond standard sides or even bother at all in my case. But here the sides are as mind blowing as the meats themselves. Only downside to this place is that I cant eat every selection in one sitting. Staff is warm and friendly and I always feel welcome here. Jeff Hobbs is a talented man with a brilliant touch. Jack Perkins knows how to produce a product that wins and a perfect atmosphere to enjoy the food. I cant imagine experiencing any better bbq in life, perhaps when I feast upon the bbq in heaven. Until then, Eat.Prey.Bone

UPDATE 7/30/15 Brisket 5/5 (asked for fattier the better, WOW it amazing!!!! Never ask for lean) Macaroni 3/5 (Not sure why but this time the macaroni was good but not great) Hushpuppies 3/5 (STILL dry as hell but decent flavor, remove this from menu if you cant maintain the correct moisture levels) Fried Chicken 5/5 (Top 5 fried chicken dishes in DFW. Already seasoned perfectly but I would like more spiciness because i like hot fried chicken) Atmosphere is quaint and people that work there are nice... Ill be back ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Brisket 5/5 (Wonderful) Ribs 4.5/5 (Pretty damn good) Macaroni 5/5 (2nd best i have ever had) Hush Puppies 3/5 (Flavor good but dry as hell) Atmosphere 4/5 Service 5/5 I fed a party of 15 people with their brisket and ribs and everyone agreed the barbecue was nearing perfection. I did feel that the barbecue and sauce were missing some "heat" from chiles im not sure why they dont think that would be a good idea.

Consistency is the name of the game here... as everything is always hot, fresh and great tasting. Never had a bad meal here. Some of the best brisket and ribs in the DFW area and probably the best fried chicken Ive had. The turkey and sausages are also very good, though, for me, the sausage is the low item here. Still very tasty, but the other "meat" options are just that much better. The sides are also excellent... Brisket pinto beans, jalapeño mac and cheese, brussel sprout and cauliflower gratin, fried okra and the greens. And dont forget about the fresh pickles. I havent tried the others, but Id bet theyre pretty good as well. For me, the only low point on the whole menu is the cornbread and hush puppies (which comes with any combo plate). Theyve always been dreadfully dry. Youd think in this place, with all the excellent options, theyd be better. Particularly the corn bread.. put some real corn in it and maybe a sprinkle of jalapeño and cheese.

WOW!! This was a bad experience.. I wanted some BBQ for lunch so I jumped on Yelp and found this place.. I read the reviews because that how I make my decision and boy o boy were those reviews wrong. I got the sausage sandwich, which the meat was fine. I was not a friend of the bread and the BBQ sauce OMG WTH WAS THAT??? Super nasty is what that was. The mac and cheese wow.. Needed some SALT and I NEVER put or use SALT on my mac and cheese and when you say Jalapeno it is suppose to be HOT RIGHT???? WRONG!!! It was a total waste. And my friend that was with me got the sliced brisket and he didnt like the BBQ sauce either. He also stated that the meat was oven cooked and it was liquid smoke and the sauce was watery. I got a sweet tea for my drink and OMG nothing was sweet about that. I ended up pouring it out to get a big red soda and that wasnt any better what a waste of $20!! The staff here are GREAT!! NEVER WILL I COME HERE AGAIN
