Let me start by saying they have the best french fries and I do not like french fries and usually dont eat them. Not here, they are crunchy and tasty. My last visit I order a sandwich which they forgot to put the Russian Dressing on and it was dry. My waitress never stopped by after initially delivering our order. After giving up on finding my waitress, I went to the counter to ask for her and what I needed. She apologized for not being around. Once I had the dressing the sandwich was delicious and enough to take home. My visit before, I order a sandwich of chicken breast with Provolone and roasted peppers. Somehow, with those ingredients, it was tasteless. There was literally no seasoning on the chicken breast nor on the roasted peppers (as if they were taken right from the jar). But I still love the place and will go back, just have to watch what you order and usually the wait staff is great, friendly and accommodating.

One of my favorite diners...Ever (& Im not exaggerating)! I enjoy the friendly neighborhood atmosphere, the cleanliness of the dining establishment, the good service of the employees, & last but not least the delicious food! I am a vegetarian. My favorite dish is the, Asain Chicken. I substitute the chicken for a veggie burger, no problem! (The waitresses are very accommodating.) The french fries on the side are great. They have a crispy kind of coating on them, and unfortunately even when Im full I eat all the fries because I love them! LoL There is also a tasty portobello mushroom sandwhich Ill get every now and then. (Note: This is not a sponsored ad, nor do I have any ties with the diner/ employees. Its just my honest feedback & I hope it was helpful)

ive been going to the Penrose since I was a kid in the 70s. Im originally from Wikes-Barre, Pa. My family would always choose the diner to eat before going to Phillies games so we didnt eat alot at the game. Also, when I had to go to Childrens Hospital, we ate here as well because we liked the food. I meet my cousin when I come down for my vacations so we can catch up on the latest things going on. I recommend this restaurant to my friends when they come here if they are looking for a place to eat. Ill be back next month to see my favorite restaurant. ill be moving here soon, so I hope to visit more frequently than i have in the past 40 years.Everything from the food to the service makes me want to come back for more. I wont go anywhere else.

Top Notch Diner. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/ or just snacking. Enjoy breakfast the most and the wait service is extra-ordinary, very pleasant, and making every meal joyful. Never waiting for food, like at some other restaurants. Whether, in a booth with family, friends, or stopping at the counter for "Me" meal, it could not be a better experience!!! In 2012/13 the new promotions and events, has been an added attraction to an already great place. Some restaurants its the food, the people, the place. At the Penrose, its all three !!!! {{Oh and the kids like the crane games in the lobby, that adds more smiles}}} Keep it up, because there are few places like the PENROSE DINER in Philadelphia. ......

I had a experience.. First i had a medical issue watch was caused by the resturant. The manager sam then invited us back in to make up for it.. Then when we came in half way through our meal thebowner mike came out and accused us of lieing and was very rude pointing fingures and threnting to call the cops. I had even told him that we would pay for our meal and thire was no reason to accused us of trying to cheat the resturant but he went on and on, and insisted we leve abd not come back. I would never have gone thire again any way After the experience we had the first time had they not invited us back. They also have horrable food and staff. For the love of good stay away.

Best Diner in the area, Some of the sweetest waitress I have ever experienced, extermly clean restaurant, Not sure if I like the new outside face lift, it looses its classic diner look. While Melrose seems more touristy and has its historically status also the prototypical rude "Philly" waitress. The Penrose seems more of a local solid diner, putting customers at ease, I felt like I was at my grandmothers house. While at the Melrose I felt more like a outsider, eat, pay, and get out. The Penrose was easy to get to and had a large parking lot.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict and I received a complimentary side of disappointment. It was tasteless. The hollandaise sauce was unremarkable, the presentation was unappetizing. It was evident that my order sat under heating lamps for a while. Perhaps the high wattage hardened my hash browns, they were overcooked, I couldnt cut through the surface. I doused my food in salt, pepper, and ketchup because clearly the cook was hired from a nearby nursing home. The rice pudding was good. Avoid this place unless your doctor recommends a low sodium diet.

I thoroughly enjoy the Penrose diner. Its one of the best in Philly. The staff is always friendly, but they seem to have trouble remembering... With a recent order for a grilled chicken sandwich, I ask for no bun, and I still get one. The same sandwich was also missing two condiments included in the description. Oh well. Par for the course, but the food and service are good enough to keep going back. Although sometimes, its worth it to huff it over the bridge and go to the land of diners.

I tried Penrose Diner about two years ago while in the city for a concert and have returned each time I come back to Philly! My favorite thing to get is the turkey club and fries; however, recently got the chicken tender sub and it was great as well! Despite there being tons of places to eat at in Philly, I always make sure I hit Penrose up at some point in the trip. Looking forward to coming back soon! Its my favorite place to go!

Ok so, food was very good, service was good, food was delivered very quickly and it was hot. The PRICES were crazy high for a diner. A salad with chicken was about $13-$14. (Compared to a Salad works salad, arguably better and fresher for $9) They had steaks at $25. Most dinners were over $15. There were 3 of use, we had 2 BLTs and 1 cheese omelette, total was $50. Too high for a diner. Food was good but not THAT GOOD.
