This restaurant carries a nice appearance. It is fresh, new, and hip. The seating in the bar area can accomodate parties of 8, which is nice. However, a 20% gratuity for 6 or more is contentious. I would suggest 8 or more. The open kitchen view is a neat site, seeing your food prepared. The hostess was pleasant and the server was, as well. Where the two stars are earned: the minimalist menu is lacking, the prices are high, the expectation of quality of food is not commensurate with the price. Lacking menu: a neat and tidy menu is appreciated, but when two of the five main dishes are duck, that is a problem for people who dont like duck. It really seemed as if they tried too hard to be bare-bones with the menu. Expected quality of food: the pulled pork pizza was absolutely lacking in flavor and quality. The pieces of "pulled pork" were more representative of a piece of pork that was torn apart, very few large pieces which were not tender. The pizza sauce, from appearance and taste, only had tomatoes in it, no spice. The jalapeno peppers contained no heat, as all the seeds were removed. The thin crust would have been nice had not it been comparable to the flavor and texture of a saltine cracker. This apparent lack of effort was seen in the "hamburger" dish and also the "spaetzle" dish. This lack of effort and quality is then priced too high. The plain-jane hamburger is $12, the pulled pork pizza was $18, and the spaetzle was $15. If you are looking for a place to go have a drink, this place will suit your needs as the bar is well-stocked. If you enjoy dancing, the main dining area turns into a dance floor sometime after 10:00pm on a Friday night (unsure about recurring frequency). The Fifth Element is not a bad place altogether, but as a restaurant, definitely needs a reality check.

We are spending one week in Newport on vacation and we had worst experience at this restaurant. We booked a reservation based on the reviews from yelp and google for 6 adults and one child Monday night. We arrived at 7pm and were seated promptly by the hostess. Restaurant was almost empty except a few customers at the bar. We ordered a few appetizers and drinks. It took a while for the entry to come. I ordered steak filet, asked for medium well done. Steak came rare, and one piece of meat was dropped on the table from the plate by the waitress. She was apologetic and promised to bring a replacement piece which never came. I sent the rare meat back and had to ask twice, when it would come back since everyone else was almost finished eating. Got the bill, mandatory 20% tips were added on the bill, also was charged 7% tax on the tips. When I questioned about the tips and tax on the tips, a manager was called. This is the rudest, most unapologetic man I ever encountered in hospitality industry. During the whole conversation, he never apologized for the uncooked meat, delayed service, could not explain the tax charge ( he just kept repeating : this is the law, state law and federal law ). He also refused to reduce the 20% tip based on bad experience. Will never recommend to anyone and go back. By the way, there is a Hawaiian style restaurant right across the street, much better!!

There are a lot of restaurants to pick from in Newport. This one sits just away from the madness on Broadway. We went here on a recommendation from a "local" and were overly impressed! We arrived about 20 minutes before the kitchen closed (being in the business, I know this is not ideal), but they were SO inviting! Our entrees were both visually amazing and delicious!! I had the Bistro Filet, which was cooked perfectly and my wife had the Salmon, which she said was the best salmon she had ever had. The bartender/manager even recommended where we could go to get some tiramisu (its our favorite) and then took the time to call the other restaurant to let them know we were coming. Like I said, we are in the business and eat out ALOT!! Do yourself a favor and get off the strip and spend your hard earned money at this place! You wont be sorry. We cant wait to go back!!

Not only was the food amazing, but every sinful bite of the 3 course meal was met with kindness, flexibility, and the willingness necessary to create a beautiful wedding event. And further, if affordability wasnt enough, when the weather changed and anything that could go wrong did, and at the very last minute, Brad and the staff at The Fifth Element were poised and ready to accommodate when we asked to come an hour early to hold our wedding ceremony in this funky yet elegant dining room! We could not have been happier with our experience and we are so thankful for how our impromptu wedding plan came together. Thank you so much for making our day the perfect celebration!

The Fifth Element is a fine restaurant. I went there with a friend for late lunch. We went without a reservation, there was few crowd, and we got the table easily. We had spinach balls for the appetizer. The taste was average and very oily. Usually, I am okay with slight oil, but this one was little too much. For the main course, we had black bean burger and shrimp stir fry. The black bean burger was above average but not great, and the shrimp stir fry was good. The portion was a decent size to fill an empty tummy. The Ambiance here is elegant and neat. Service was friendly. On the cost, I think this is on the slightly expensive side.

Just held a rehearsal dinner at Fifth Element and it was the perfect choice for a fun yet more casual affair. We had a group of about 35 in a reserved part of the bar area set up with high and low tables. It was great for mingling, eating and drinking and felt like we had the place to ourselves! The food was delicious - from the zucchini rollups to the fantastic pizza and everything in between. The owners and staff were a pleasure to work with and made a real effort to be helpful on every front. Ill be back for dinner on the dining side!

Fifth Element felt fresh & hip in a seaside town. With an upscale menu and nice decor. For appetizers we ordered the fish tacos which were good. Wish there were more than 2 for the price. I ordered the Chicken Franciose because I was having a hard time deciding on whether to get pizza or an entree. Although the dish was good I would have probably picked another option. We were seated as soon we got there. Our server gets 4 stars. She was super nice. Would love to try the pizza on my next visit to Newport.

There are always a lot of great choices when I come to Newport for dinner & drinks, but I always find myself coming back to the 5th. Everything youre looking for at a great restaurant & bar is here. Excellent service is standard (especially at the bar) and the food is consistently great and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the pizza of the moment which constantly changes, with the chefs whipping up delicious choices that are always a hit! Be sure to check out this hidden gem, right on Broadway!
