1 review 1.0 star rating 11/20/2016 Took my family there to celebrate our daughters first concert. The service was so- so till the meals arrived. Two of the meals arrived and we had to wait 10 minutes for the third and asked what happened. We were given a lame excuse by the bartender about the help in the kitchen not knowing how to get the food out properly and "that at any good Chinese restaurant the food does not always come out the same time." NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH KIRAKU or any other Chinese restaurant in Faifield - all main dishes showed up at the same time. Fine - it happens. Then we tasted the food - My wifes lamb dish was full of grease and the meat was questionable. My Beef Hot Sour Pot had no flavor and I had ordered it spicy (3 peppers on the menu). The sauce tasted like dishwater with no flavor and the beef looked like it had been soaked in water with no flavor. No kick at all. But there was sliced Chinese peppers placed on top of the dish. Was that to add the kick? My daughters dish which we waited for - Mongolian Beef was no better. The beef had been deep fried and had the texture of bacon - crisp/crunchy. We were told by someone who ran the front of the restaurant that the Szechuan Mongolian Beef is served that way (Authenic style) - meat crispy and fried. My daughter used her phone to check the internet about the recipe and nothing on any site - even Chinese sites served the dish that way. Also, the dish my daughter had ordered is one of her favorites which she orders quite often even in Chinatown NYC and we have never gotten crispy fried beef with onions instead of scallions served with no sauce. There is too much on the menu including almost four pages of appetizers - no wonder the kitchen can not make things right. My advice is to find a Szechuan restaurant that knows what they are doing and not go to Shu of Fairfield, CT. We miss Kiraku and laughed thru the door - never to return. PS - The bartender mentioned if we did not like the food - do not come back. ????????????????

They tried to hustle me w sushi! I ordered TORO which is pink and I got regular red tuna instead I DID complain and got half off on the fake toro order- its unfortunate bc this was one of my favorite places- Ill never come back. I am not big on complaining- Basically I can tolerate Almost anything messed up w my order but not highway robbery! When I specifically ask if there is sashimi TORO being served bc its at Market/Price And the server tells me YES we have it/ and its $16.00 for 3 pieces. I expect what I order- He comes w 3 minuscule pieces of regular red tuna. Besides being robbed for the TYPE of fish- I also got robbed for the amount I got. Those 3 tiny pieces of red tuna they were pretending was toro Originally go for about 4$ They tried to charge me 16$ After my I brought it to his attention I ended up paying 8$- Extremely Disappointed bc I was a regular there- and being the huge sushi lover that Ive been for 20 yrs it was a HUGE insult !

This is no longer Kiraku (as of 8/19/16): its Shu, the sister restaurant to Shu up in Hartford, CT. It has new owners and serves excellent, fresh, authentic Szechuanese food. The service is extremely friendly and helpful, and the food Ive had so far has been terrific: done of it spicy enough to leave me sweating, but all so complex in flavor. Highlights have been the Salt and Pepper shrimp, the 7-flavor wontons with a spicy peanut sauce, the Chengdu-style dumplings, and the beef tendon in chili oil. I will probably be returning at least once a week for awhile to get through more of the menu - so excited to have authentic Szechuan food in Fairfield.

The Mongolian beef is fantastic, could only be better if it had a touch more heat to it. Update: lowering to 1 star after two bad visits in a row, the first time I made it out to the car and thought the bag seemed small. I opened the bag to find they only gave me half of my food, when I came back in they took it bake to the kitchen and made the rest. However they did not remake the other food so it sat for an extra 15 minutes and was stone cold. The second time after calling in my order I was told 20 minutes. Now here I sit 40 minutes later and still no food in sight. It is a Thursday and they are less then half full what gives.

This is our first time to the Fairfield location. We have been to the West Hartford one many times. We find the taste and quality of the Fairfield one to match the West Hartford location. We got our standard favorites and loved them. Kao Pao Chicken, Twice cooked pork, Sweet Pea leaves, and Beef Noodle soup. Yes, we brought a lot home. It is a bit of drive for us, but we love their food. All we great and matched the other location. We only wish they had one closer.

Fin is trendy, Wild Rice is a chain, and Wafu feels like a discotheque. Kiraku on the other hand is a family owned restaurant with really good sushi and a friendly, casual vibe. Their cooked dishes are great but I go there for the sushi. Its as fresh as youll find anywhere. In fact, one night they even had live uni (sea urchin) which I have never seen outside of NYC. And even still, you usually only find live uni on the west coast. They must have some great connections.

The very best Chinese Szechuan food weve ever had. The lovely owners have two restaurants near Hartford: one is a hot pot restaurant called "Han" and the other is also "Shu". The menu is extensive and we have tried many dishes. The soups are remarkable, the pork and lotus root is very special, as is the tomato fried egg. The grilled whole fish is very special. The extensive vegetarian menu is wonderful. If you like Chinese food, this is the place to go!

I have been searching for decent Chinese food in Fairfield County for the past decade, mostly with little success. Shu does a very good job at relatively authentic, tasty Sichuan style cuisine. I was ecstatic when I tried it and it was delicious, as I was not optimistic going in based on past experience in this county. Were lucky to have this gem in the area, and I wish them continued success.

Definitely the best Japanese restaurant Ive been to in Fairfield County. The sushi is always delicious, the appetizers are great, and they have an interesting selection of alcoholic drinks from creative cocktails to wine to even a good choice in sake. The ambiance is great too, so anything from drinks with a friend to an anniversary dinner are very special here. Id recommend it to anyone.

If your the type to call the local delivery place for Chinese food, forget everything you thought you knew about Chinese food and go here. This is the real deal Sichuan Chinese. Fresh, flavorful, and fast. The Yelp page on them says they do delivery and take out along with dining in. The place is very nice inside. Ive done take out as well as dine in.
