This was one of my favorite haunts in high school, but the last few times Id visited, the food was disappointing. However, Im happy to report that Mad Mex is not only back on track, but better than ever! I inadvertantly ended up going to two different Mad Mexs (this one and the one near Ross Park Mall) when visiting family over the holidays, and both experiences were outstanding. The specials were creative, perfectly and unexpectedly implementing holiday-esque ingredients into the Mad Mex style (Roasted Winter Vegetable Burrito, Apple Cider Margarita) while the old standbys (like their 100% perfect classic salsa and always-great carnitas) were wonderful reminders of why I love the mini-chain so much. Ill be back soon!

There was two of us that were seated about 6pm. We wanted a booth, no booth available. The hostess sat us at a table for two. It was extremely small. We ordered our drinks then we told the hostess the table was going to be too small to accommodate us. They immediately moved us, then we were happy. The food portions are large enough to fill you. The chicken quesadilla very good, made perfect with a lot of filling. The wraps were excellent. It is extremely noisy restaurant and the kids were screaming two tables away from us. We ordered the fried ice cream. It was OK, should of just ordered plain vanilla icecream.

December 10, 2015 was the first and last time I visited this Mad Mex location. I ordered the Happy Hippie quesadilla (vegetarian meal) and got food poisoning. I called and reported the food poisoning to the Manager, she was polite and apologetic. I have been to many other Mad Mex locations and have never had a bad experience but since Ive told my most recent experience to friends/neighbors Ive heard of numerous other food poisoning cases from the McKnight Road location...

Some foods are terrible but pennsyltucky is awesome though. Most frozen margaritas are good, sometimes bitter . The daytime bartender is a great woman. The male one on Sunday nights sucks real bad ...he ruins the atmosphere Staff can be good , but usually they are arrogant or just rude and act entitled .. If you are used to Tex mex or great Texas drinks , you or will be disappointed ...go to Taco Bell Pittsburgh is not known for helpful or friendly service

worst mad mex of them all. ive been to the oakland one at midnight filled with drunk college kids and had worlds better service than this place. ive never been to a restaurant where i ordered food and it never showed up. i questioned the waiter and he said our food WASNT COMING and did we want him to take it off the bill. DUH. its also way too small in the restaurant and becomes extremely loud anyways. dont go to this location

The North Hills does not have many good resteraunts so thank goodness theres a Mad Mex out here. Happy Hour is always popular, there is a good beer selection, and the margaritas are delicious. Food is your typical Mad Mex food: appetizing and filling. Seems like there are always no employees working there every time I go, but I have never had a bad serve so I dont mind.

I ordered the wing tacos which were very good, but $10+ dollars for 3 tacos seems just a little bit high, even if it comes with a heaping side of waffle fries. Staff was friendly and attentive. Parking was good when I went at lunch time, but I imagine parking being terrible at busy dinner hours due to its small size and weird layout.

Go to Robinson. This location blows. Nobody seems to give a crap here. No attention to detail, service is slow, food takes forever for meh quality. Online ordering system is unreliable, and service doesnt pay any attention to detail. They take your silverware, then give you to go containers to transfer your food. Never again.

Really, really good food and great service. Get the La Chimi and the Shishito Peppers. Also, the Lime-Cilantro Vinaigrette dressing with the Casa Salad was so good. Lastly, the Red Bean Turkey Chili (which is made with coffee, btw) was insanely good. Not so good or just okay: the chips & salsa oddly enough.

A great local establishment with several locations serving their own unique take on ameri-mexican. Im a particular fan of their burritos, but Ive not ever had something I didnt like in many years of dining at Mad Mex. The "big azz" margarita is a special treat, but it is big, so make sure youre prepared!

Food is very good and I would have given 4 stars if not for lack of hygiene, employees sitting on table working on utensils and grabbing all with fingers thru the front, management said no gloves!!!!!So just because I got my utensils wrapped inside napkin does not mean they are clean

Our waitress was terrible. The food was ok. I havent been here for a while and thought I would try it again. The last time I went we sat in a corner for Im not sure how long, the waiter said nobody told him he had a table. I probably wont be going back again for s long time.

Great fajita-burrito. Original + green pepper and onion. Mmmm. I was less fond of salsa but just me: it was good & fresh. Many varieties. Newer & Old school hip hop on the music - Im 56 white nerd and I liked it! Grandmaster Flash to Jay-Z Hard Knock Life.

We love Mad Mex, though I dont think you can call it anything like authentic Mexican. I usually describe it as a Hippie married a person who loved Mexican food, moved to Pittsburgh, and their kid opened a restaurant. Great food with lots of flavor!

Good food but bring a flashlight. Its so dark inside you cant read the menu even at lunch time. 2 other neighboring tables all had the same comments, even asking if they could turn the lights up and we were told that is as bright as they get.

If you want a lively atmosphere, this is the place to be! The food was terrific and the drinks were strong! Im not from Pittsburgh so I was sad to leave, but I definitely know where to go next time Im in town! Loved it!

Great tex-mex chain destination. Good bar and still manages to be family friendly. Not a place for a quiet meal. The Chimichanga is one of my favorites. The cilantro lime salad dressing is also a must have.

Didnt get to eat but waited for 45 minutes after being told 30 minutes for a seat. Left after that. People leaving said they ordered they had to wait for 1 hour for food. Clearly understaffed

Ordered takeout and everything was perfect. Ive been here before for their drink specials as well. Fun, young atmosphere. Cool decor. They have garage doors that open up on nice days too.

They have added heat to everything they sell. I dont mind some heat, but my wife and kids dont like spicy foods. I swear the chickpea chili used to have zero heat. But my bowl was hot!

I love Mad Mex. Great food, great rotating selection of craft beer on draught and the atmosphere is fun. Partial outdoor seating available during warmer months. Great place.
