Appalachian brewing company is a fun restaurant and brew pub right outside of downtown Gettysburg. We visited in the beginning of November and happened to be traveling with our dog. I had seen it listed as a place that had outdoor seating available and allowed 4 legged friends. This plan went well until the cold spell hit. Though it was 41 degrees, we needed a place to take our dog, so we were willing to brave the cold and wind and still sit outside. The hostess evidently thought this was a bizarre request (which I suppose it was) and gave us a weird look, and informed us we would need to come inside to order. After this brief brusqueness, things got better. Their selection of house brews was quite good and seemed to have a wide range that would suite every need from pumpkin ales to lager to birch beer. Their menu is largely typical american faire, but we were able to find a few interesting twists. We had the pulled pork sandwich and the fire burger, both excellent and warm choices for outside. The burger was nice and spicy and the pulled pork well seasoned and tender. The stand out part was the home-made chips though. Delicious kettle cooked chips pilled on the plate, our dog enjoyed a few of the ones we couldnt finish as well. We washed this all down with a lager and the scottish amber ale. Both were very tasty and went well with the food. During this time, our waitress warmed up to us much more and overturned the initial cold feeling we got (all puns intended). We had to hurry out after finishing due to the increasing wind and I really wish we had been able to stay for another round of their delicious brew.

On Oct. 16, 2009, Friday, my husband and I took his sister and husband to the Appalachian Brewery in Gettysburg. We had talked about this place, because of the past service we received; it was awesome. We got there about 1:20pm. It was busy and tables were not bussed. We stood in line to be seated and could see there were only two servers. They were waiting on customers that were already seated. The servers would glance over, but, did not acknowledge us. About five minutes of standing we were finally seated. We ordered our drinks and meals. About 1:55pm we did not get our food or the appitizer we ordered. The servers were busy and it did not seem like our order was even given to the cook. We paid for our drinks and left, before the food came; if it would have came. We could not understand why they did not have enough staff to take care of customers on a Friday. My husband and I are embarrassed, because the service was poor. His sister and brother came from Reno, NV and we wanted to take them to this place for a great meal and service and did not receive it.

Started out well. Nice welcome greating. Food and beer served in desent time. But from that point... 10 minuttes into diner the waitress started stacking chairs by the surrunding tables (we were sitting on the terrasse outside). And to make matters worse she started sweeping the floor. I asked if they were about to close? (We got our food around 08:30). "No No - just making ready" . After a few minutters she was sweeping the floor around our table. Trying to give a hint I asked again if they were closing soon? "No kitchen closes at 10 and the bar at 11". I could see the same things happening around the guests sitting inside. Still eating we got presented with the bill. "You just pay when ready". Just about leaving we got a laugh: a big party of about 10 came and ordered food (another waitress totally disregarding the nice frenchmen trying to explain to her that his english was not so good). Guess they would have to stack the chairs and sweep the floor again

First time we have visited this place, since we were in the area visiting the battlefield and based on the reviews decided to check this place out. Great atmosphere and had to wait 15 min. for a table even though there were several available tables open. Ordered just an appetizer (spinach dip - amazing!) and two small plates to share (tots -good/pierogies - okay). We each ordered a beer to try, which was also very tasteful and refreshing (chocolate ave pint, Scottish ale pint, & wheat pint -all very good). Overall, enjoyed our experience, but our only complaint was our server, Lydia. She was awful and did not provide very good customer service. We had to ask for one of the beers which was ordered with the food and came after the food arrived, we had to ask for her to refill our waters, never came to ask how the food was and never came to remove our plates after we were finished and paying for the bill.

At the end of a 30 minute wait, 7 tables were cleared and we were forced to wait 10 more minutes while the kitchen back up cleared out. Once seated we immediately ordered (having checked the menu). It was anothe 25 minutes before a Stromboli, brats, flatbread and sliders were served. The Caesar flatbread was supposed to have a Caesar salad on top-the food was a cheesy glop of overlooked chicken and cheese with barely a coating of wilted, warm romaine. When I questioned where the salad was I was told the greens were the Caesar salad. I said, but its brown romaine, and I was told this is what it was. Our drinks werent refreshed once and so it was 3 pm by the time we left. Way overpriced for food quality. Service was slow and the place wasnt full after the lunch rush. Good news it was clean.

After reading the good reviews for ABC, we decided to try it while in Gettysburg. I love great diner and pub food, but was very disappointed in the meal and service. The ingredients were not fresh and the food was limp, and cold. Also, the waitstaff seemed lost and that no one was in charge. My order initially came out of the kitchen wrong. I noticed that one diner next to me had the waitress ask him if she could take his glasses away (he had a beer sampler that he wasnt done with) because she said they had run out of glasses and needed them. The plus side is that the restaurant looks out onto a beautiful field, and the beer is tasty. I would come here for a beer, but not a meal.

Service was adequate, food was adequate, atmosphere was adequate. Price for 5 with tip was $74.75 and thats with 4 of us drinking water. You can tell that this is a craft beer place first and the food is a rather distant second. The burger I had you can get anywhere else, just as good, for less money. My wife had the Rad Gumbo....it wasnt Rad and it barely resembled Gumbo. Portion was overwhelmingly small and mainly consisted of rice with some Gumbo looking gravy around the rice. My wife was disappointed to say the least. The Blue and Gray down the road has much better food for similar prices. We wont come back here.

A true American brewery and restaurant. Sad to see the old battlefield location go, but this place is NICE. Good beer, great pub style food(burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc). Dont go here if youre on some kind of major health kick...come for a relaxing time and good food (they do have some healthier options). LOVE the Scottish Ale, and they seem to have something for every kind of beer drinker. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly (most will let you sample for free, unlike other places) . Garrett and Mandy are awesome! Get Billy, Robby, and Becky over here and you have the ultimate shift.
