Caboose is a lovely stop along the W&OD trail with ample bicycle and rather limited vehicular parking. Between a third and a half of their evening clientele were on bicycles when I went in, the rest mostly in sharp business casual. I felt more out of place in motorcycle gear than I expected to at a brewery/tasting room. The aesthetic was a sort of rustic industrial; most surfaces were finished wood with dark, flat metal pipes for adornment. The atmosphere seemed geared for people too old to call themselves hipsters but too young to be yuppies. It was not what I was expecting to find at back end of Viennas light industrial district. When I walked in alone, the hostess smiled and waved me toward the bar, where I waited a few minutes for a bartender to be free. The standing area was rather busy and the small downstairs seating area was completely full, but the upstairs seating was roped off. I ordered a "hoppy" flight of beers and grabbed a sticker before moving to one of the standing bar-like surfaces adorning the bar half of the restaurant. Two of the beers were lackluster, one was good, and the imperial double was the best 9-ish% beer Ive had in recent memory. It was akin to DFH90Minute, slightly less syrupy, with a very smooth finish. A saw a few charcuterie boards in the bar area, which people seemed to be enjoying. The food that came out to the seated areas smelled delicious, and a hooked board along one wall told the (very local) source of each individual ingredient, down to the city/farm in Virginia. I will definitely be returning to try a meal.

This place has great options on beers tried most that were on the menu. Food was great mac and cheese is highly recommended but will probably skip on the paté next time. The waitress was great always checking in on us and refilling our beers and food. I would have given this place 4.5- 5 star rating if it werent for the manager Brandon. When we got the bill it which was pretty long we had rung up over a $400 tab. We were just making sure that everything was right on the tab and had a few beers that were on our bill that werent ordered. When it was brought up to the manager he was very sure that we had ordered these beers. But after a calm explanation from our group he snatched the check from my hand and rolls his eyes as hes charging the cards. I did mention that I did not appreciate his eye rolling and attitude during this conversation. He looks over and says " Do you want me to take these beers off or not ?" As a customer for me to hear those words said to me was very disrespectful. A manager put in that position should not be acting like a teenager when someone has an issue with a bill. Overall I had a great experience up until the end of the night. I was very happy to bring a group of friends there for the first time to experience this hidden brewery. But I feel that a lot of us will not return due to the poor customer service from the manager.

We went for the first time last night with our kids. I wanted to give it a try because I love restaurants that use food from local farms. Our waitress acted annoyed with us and didnt smile at all and was short with every question. She also forgot my dessert. The food was ok. I got pork belly and it was overcooked and very fatty and couldnt chew some of it because it was hard. The meat part of it was dry. My husband got the staek and the first one was undercooked (med rare really pink) but tasted good. So he ordered another and told our waitress to have the kitchen cook it more. Guess she didnt tell them because it was even less cooked and came out rare. They did refund us it and cooked it more. He loved the onion rings on top and wanted an order but she said they cant do that which was weird. The risotto was ok but it needed some salt. I got a meat and cheese plate that was good but I dont remember the name of it. My son got Mac and cheese that was $8 which was expensive for a small plate of it and it wasnt enough for him so we had to get 2. I like how they mark things gluten free which made it easier for me to decide what I could eat. We will give the food a try again but do not want want M. Giorgi as our waitress.

I have been going to caboose pretty much biweekly since it opened. The confusion about the patio and the food service hours is now in the past. The patio is well marked and is a perfect place to enjoy some quality beers after some hard trail miles. I typically saddle up to the bar primarily because I know I will get great service and I enjoy the local vibe you get from the very personable bar staff (even though I’m not a local). I haven’t traveled through too much of the menu and I blame that on the burger. The burger has me coming back to it time after time. I was a bit hesitant at first because I couldn’t choose my burger temperature level but the bartender told me to trust him about how good it is. The burger patties are cooked to medium and have great flavor and juiciness. But the real stand out is the combination of toppings. Did you say beer candied bacon? Thanks Keith, you got me hooked. Overall this is a great place to enjoy quality beer and food. I think I would even drive here if I had to. But luckily I don’t. Milepost 12 on the W&OD. Hey DC…only 15 miles by bike from the White House. Pretty sweet place to turn around if you ask me.

Caboose is a great addition to spectacular Vienna VA! It is brand new (Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was May 22) but looks destined to become a magnet for people who know and appreciate what microbreweries do so well. The selection of beers and ales will be tinkered with over the years, but the initial offering of eight will cover the range of anyone’s palate. After sampling a “flight” (taste sampler) I chose their IPA, which is every bit as good as Sierra Nevada’s storied Celebration or Lagunitas. The staff is friendly, professional, attentive and courteous, and really appear to enjoy working there. I asked Ian Gidea, the Master Brewer what he thought was the best part of Caboose. His answer? “It is the secret path off the popular W&OD Trail,” he said with a wink. “Jogging or bicycling is thirsty work.”

This is an excellent spot in Vienna. I came here on Sunday and loved the number of people coming here from the bike path. If you want a great bike ride with friends or family, stop by here for a cold beer to hydrate yourself. The beer section has IPA, Pale Ales, Porters, etc.. On a sunny day, the outdoor seating is a real treat. I love the interior design of the restaurant, whoever designed this place did a great job. I have not tried the food, but the beer was tasty. You can do a flight for $10 and this comes with 4 or 5 beer samples. If you are just getting a pint, you taste small samples before buying your pint. A pint ranges from $5-7. Affordable and tasty beer.
