Craft breweries are finally opening my area. I have visited most of them in the last couple months. Each one offers a unique experience. But I was absolutely blown away by the atmosphere at Growling Bear Brewery. Interesting details from the custom steel and concrete bar to the beer paws. The owner Mike Bliven designed a taster flight that I have never seen before. Enough about the decor. The reason we go to breweries is for the beer. Simply put craft beer done right. I dare you to pick a favorite. I know I cant decide. Definitely going back.

We went in on a rainy Saturday, walked in the door and saw a few people at the tables so we sat down. Had never been in before and no one greeted us. No one came to see what we wanted, no direction. Had to go to the bar and ask "how does this work?" Dont assume people walking in know what to do when they come into your establishment- treat each customer as though it was their first time walking through the door of a craft brew house. Beers were ok, the flight presentation was nice but wont be going back.

Growling Bear is less than a year old but already off to a great start. They have 12 rotating taps that are constantly changing and vary in selection. The owners stated goal is to keep at least four darker beers on tap at all times, which is a refreshing departure from many other craft breweries. The brews all taste as described and, thanks to extra grains, never are off-putting or too carbonated. Youll question buying bottled beers after coming here. They also sell growlers for take-home drinking.

As a longtime brewer (~20 years) I really wanted to like the place. Especially since there are little to no talented micros worth drinking in NOVA. Tried a number of beers and disliked them all. Hope the owner receives some constructive criticism from the public and takes a hard look at their recipe formulation and makes some changes.

Very good range of beer, from pale ales to unorthodox porters. The sampler is a great deal for the amount of beer you get. Their food selection is practically obsolete but would be nice if they had some variety of food to pair with their beverages. Comfortable environment and easy to get to.

Tried 8 of the beers via the sampler, I found the bitter to be the best out of them for my tastes. There are hotdogs and homemade smoked meat chili to purchase, TVs, and games to play while you drink also a small outdoor area in front. A nice place for a good beer. Cheers.

The folks who run Growling Bear are some of the nicest people youll ever meet. The beer is best in the area for my tastes. My favorites are the Red Head and the Saison. Its rare to find a craft brewery with a neighborhood hangout feel, but this is that kind of place.

Beer was the best I have had at a brewpub in Prince William County. Atmosphere is nice, especially considering the location in a light industrial/office park. No food to speak of, hence the 4 stars instead of what could have been 5.
