I want to update my review, as this restaurant has worked hard to deserve one. I had given it 2 stars, and left the reason why below, in my first review. For the last year, they have improved their service so much, we happily go there on a regular basis, as the food was never the issue. Thai Orchis has the best noodles & curries. The servers are polite and courteous and on the ball. The cooks well organized and quick as well, as lunch time is usually our time to be there, and we are on the clock too! Dine in or take out, we enjoy this establishment again. I wish others would take the time to revisit/review a business you have given less than 3 stars to in the past. As a small business owner myself, I can tell you everyone deserves a second chance, once they know what to fix, as we all do. Right? I thought so.... :D OLD REVIEW FROM 2+ YEARS AGO>We are done giving this restaurant our business. The service is beyond slow. The servers blame the kitchen, the kitchen, when I asked, blamed the servers. And this is when there are only 6 to 8 other people being served... much worse when it is busy. It has taken an hour or more to get everyone at our table served, most finished before others even got their food... and more often than should be, some do not get what they ordered, after waiting 45 minutes of their 1 hour lunch break... this is bad management, not bad servers or cooks. We tried Royal Thai in Independance and Thai Dish Cuisine in Silverton and WOW!!! They are more than worth the short, beautiful drive, for both quality of food, as well as service. Give them a try, you will be happy you did. As for Thai Orchid in Salem, stop charging extra for spoon fulls of extra sauces, for brown rice & get the menu up with current prices for your take out orders... PLEASE! You need to work on trying to get your service in better shape. You owe that to your customers that you have left... Lots of empty tables are a sign that you are not listening to your customers... or former customers... Thanks for listening now, if you are! MS :)

I am beyond upset with the service my fiance and I received this evening. We were there to celebrate my birthday. We stood at the front desk for 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us. The girl who sat us speed walked ahead of us put the menus on the table and walked away. When we ordered our entrees (chicken pad thai) I asked for a side of peanut sauce with my pad thai. The waitress brought me the smallest cup at half full, it wasnt even a spoonful. When I asked for another cause it wasnt enough I was told in a very rude fashion that she was going to charge me $.75 for each. She never told me when I first asked for it that there was a charge. I have asked for it the few dozen times ive been to this location and was always brought a bowl full and NEVER charged. Even with the peanut sauce on my entree it was flavorless and cold. Egg shell pieces in the egg that was in my dish. DISGUSTING! She never once asked if we wanted refills on our drinks or if we needed anything else, or how the food tasted. Not only was our waitress rude but the other one working that evening as well. We tried getting her attention to ask for something and she ignored us and walked right past us. So not only was my birthday dinner celebration ruined by poor customer service but the quality of the food. I paid $33 for nothing.

I’ve lived in Salem for 10 years and I love Thai food. The first few times I ate here I assumed it must have been an “off day” or “one-of-those-things” but kept coming back. The wait is horrible and the service is cold, but the food is good (not great) and the view of downtown is pretty awesome. I hadn’t been there for several years after the last visit upset my wife so badly she went screaming all the way out, left our unfinished plates at the unattended counter and threw money on the till. After I came across these reviews and notice they now have a website, I figured maybe (just maybe) they would have read some of this stuff and brushed up on their service… …So I went back. I won’t go into the details of an hour wait, cold food (there were only 5 other couples there) and we were the last to be served. To the management / owners of Thai Orchid: Hire a greeter and make your staff wait on tables. Where they disappear for 20-30 minutes? Do they have jobs at JC Penney and Thai Orchid is where they go on break? Seriously – Small improvements would change this from a hateful experience to something I might look forward too. I’m amazed you’re still in business! Happy Holidaze! Try Lanxang - The food is great and they remember your name.

The first clue was the up escalator was not working inside the mall so we had to walk up the stationary stairs. There was no greeter at the desk and we waited behind at least three other couples and no greeter showed up. After about 10-15 minutes a waitress came out to show couples to tables. Once seated we were served promptly and courteously and the food was good. There was a view of the J C Penney store and the Salem Center. All the time we were there there was only two waitresses and no one bussing empty tables. We finally left and had to select a waitress to pay as there was still no greeter or cashier at the front desk. Maybe this was a Labor Day problem, but we wont be going back for seconds!

My husband and I went knowing the food was going to be great, but expecting pretty terrible service from the reviews on here. We were very pleasantly surprised to be greeted and seated immediately, the wait for the food was not unreasonable, and our waitress was cheerful and attentive, stopping by frequently to see if we needed anything. It might have helped that we arrived around 8 PM so it wasnt too crowded, but maybe theyve been reading the online reviews and working to do better. The food was indeed very good--my pad thai was a little bland, possibly because I asked for mild, but the curry was delicious (it seems like "medium" may be the way to go on spiciness).

of my money will ever be spent in this joint. Not only were we "exiled" to the back room, the service was lousy to nonexistent, the food mediocre at best (I hated mine-no taste, no style) and ambiance does not exist. Food service was absolutely chaotic and my beloved DIL waited for her Pad Thai until the other five of us were almost through eating. Thank goodness, wed ordered an appetizer! And the so-called appetizer was not the least bit tasty. There are plenty of smaller Thai restaurants in this town that do welcome your presence and want to provide lovely food and terrific service. I will continue to frequent those restaurants and NOT this one.

We will no longer be giving Thai Orchid our business. After my graduation ceremony from Chemeketa I wanted to take my family here. When we arrived there was a paper sign on the entrance stating that they had closed early. The hostess and manager were available to talk to us and informed us that they were closing early because business was slow. They still turned us away- a party of 9. We also saw them turn away 2 other large parties. Who closes early on the night of the citys community college graduation? Luckily Thai Beer took us in and even stayed open late just for us!! The food is better there anyways and the service is beyond friendly!
