Heard many great things from my family about this place so we decided to go in for lunch today. I was skeptic as we pulled up due to it being in a strip mall and that there was only one other table sat. But, it was clean, staff seemed polite, and a glance towards the buffet and that put everything at ease. As I walk around filling my plate with all of my favorite foods from sushi to steamer clams and fried rice to teriyaki style chicken. I sit down and take a bite. Everything is barely room temperature. Take a bite of something else... Same thing. EVERYTHING was cold. Even the soup! I inform the server and she looks under the steamer plates, taps around on the counters, comes back and informs me that the water hasnt boiled yet. Ummmm... Isnt that suppose to happen BEFORE you put food out?! So, I throw caution to the air on food born illness and proper food handling temperatures and eat my plate. She comes back and I forms me that she can have something cooked fresh for me. Now that Ive eaten my whole plate, that wont be necessary. We finish our tea which was the only thing warm and get our check. Ive been in the service industry for about 20 years now and know if I served cold food, comp it apologize, and give them a gift card for a free meal next time. Nope, charged us full price. I grabbed someone who looked like the manager and asked them if we could get some kind of discount for the cold food. She couldnt do anything and told me to ask the other girl. So, I did. Same question. Instant attitude sparked out of her as she asked what I would like her to do. Fair question, but came off extremely offensive. I told her at least one of the meals compd... There was three of us. She replied with "fine" and gave me the new total. We paid, still tipped, and as we walked out she takes our picture... Very odd behavior. Wont be returning. And will be passing my experience to anyone who speaks of this place in the future.

Friday night, 6pm ordered take out. Weve ordered take out from them three times previously and the food was always delivered within 30 minutes, pipping hot and delicious. I hate to write anything bad about them just because there are such few good Chinese delivery places in Vancouver. However, 6pm on Friday we ordered. By 7pm (AN HOUR LATER!!!!), no one had arrived with our food. I called them and the phone rang and rang and rang and rang with no one picking up on the other end. 2.30mins of the phone ringing with no answer. So I hung up and called back. They answered after about 1 min of ringing this time and then placed me on hold for another 2 minutes to look up my order. After all that time, the lady sympathetically says that the driver will be there in another 10-15 minutes still but no compensation for our inconvenience was offered to appease this really awful taste thats forming in our mouths from this experience. Its currently 7:22pm and we still have no food and are starving. If we hadnt prepaid with the credit card, I would just say "forget it" and do something else. But were stuck waiting (which always seems worse when youre starving) until they finally get here with the food....did I mention its now been about an hour and a half since I got the email confirmation of my order being placed? I could have driven out there and back by now instead of paying someone to deliver it.... I understand that things get busy on a Friday night but when you offer a service, you should make sure that you follow through on that service so you dont get unhappy customers. I love this place and love the food they serve, but this has left a sour taste in my mouth...perhaps its time I start venturing to see what other options there are for Chinese take out in Vancouver.

If were talking about "take out" here then the food gets 5 stars for sure. I personally love the sweet and sour chicken, veggie lo mein, and crab puffs...large portion sizes, comes with steamed sticky rice, and completely delicious. However, the last THREE times I ordered for home delivery I never received an order confirmation, it took almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive, and I never received a courtesy call to let me know it was running behind. Well last night, I placed an order online at 7:17 PM (according to the receipt), and by 8:15 it still wasnt delivered. I understand this place gets busy, so I called and asked if they were running late. The lady I spoke with apologized and confirmed they were extremely behind, but our driver should be there in 20 minutes. Okay, no problem. Now its a 8:45 and still no food. I call the restaurant and the same lady answered, she had no clue where the driver was and offered to void my transaction. I accepted her apology and asked to be refunded, which she agreed and told us to take the meal once it arrives, but not to leave a tip? It was odd, but okay. About five minutes later the driver shows up with the food (turns out to be luke warm) and I signed for it, leaving a note that the transaction should be voided. The driver tells me I didnt fill out the total and tip line, to which I replied Im not paying for a meal this late. It was just awkward and bad service on their part. Moral: go pick it up, dont do online home delivery.

I have had two poor experiences with this restaurant. The first time I called to clarify items on the menu and I was told that she was too busy to answer my questions. She said that if I wanted to know what the Daily Special was, I could come in and read the board. That was my first experience with the restaurant and we chose to eat elsewhere. The second time I ordered from them was an accident. We usually eat at another restaurant that we really like, but chose Taste of Asia and ordered online. 45 minutes later I called the restaurant and was told that I live too far away for delivery and they have 2 restaurant locations and I would be closer to the other one (I assume this is Taste of China, which is actually great). I said choosing the location was not an option on the website, and he said that having it be that way was "too confusing." He said that my order would take an additional 35 minutes and I cancelled my order. He called me back immediately and let me know the food was done and could be delivered in 10-15 minutes. If this restaurant runs Taste of China as well, that is their only redeeming factor. The customer service at Taste of Asia has been awful the two times I have spoken with them.

Wonderful service and good food. I started with lettuce wrap, pot stickers and egg drop soup appetizers. All very good. Only thing to make that better would be crushed peanuts on the chicken lettuce wraps. They went out of their way to make my dad and I happy, even when my dad (without much teeth) couldnt eat the Mongolian beef cause meat was very tough, they kindly took it off the bill. That wasnt their fault, yet they pleasantly accommodated. 1 improvement on that would that it was heavy on white onions (normally Ive only had Mongolian beef with green onions not any white onions, and white crunchy Saifun noodles). That alone was going above and beyond though, removing it. I had Kung Pao Chicken. Good flavor, but like half celery (typically Ive had that with bell pepper, my fault I decided quick working trading the description). Beef fried rice was good. All and all good flavor food, very kind service, and clean restaurant. Id liked to have tried a spicy dish, but dad cant do spicy. Maybe another time were in State. Id definitely go there again, just for the service!
