I have been to the Raccoon several times, and every time I go there I walk out confused and somewhat upset. "Why do I keep coming back?" I ask myself. To this day it remains a mystery, and I can only hope its early onset Alzheimers. The thing about the Raccoon is this. It is INSANELY expensive considering what you get service wise. The owners are too cheap to get a barback, so the bartenders make the drinks, get the food, cash people out, and clear the tables. So, if there are more than 3 tables of people, you will wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait for any and everything. Your bill, drinks, food, whatever will be many, many minutes away, no matter what. Furthermore, its expensive. Beers are $5 or more a pint, and they are OK. Nothing special in a town full of brew pubs, and certainly not worth that price. The food is good, standard neighborhood bar fare, but not worth the $12 or more you will spend per plate. Mixed drinks? Meh. I wont be going back again, and I would suggest you save yourself the trouble from trying it at all.

Ive waited a few visits before writing a public assessment of it. Simply because the first time I came and had a burger it was fairly mediocre... but the subsequent visits Ive had has put The Racoon Lodge as one of my favorite, go to, places in Portland for a fine meal. With every visit I am surprised by even the simplest combinations of ingredients to make something delectably delicious. From their super creamy cheesy bacon Mac to their cedar plank salmon with cilantro rice I, literally, clean my plate every visit. Tonights desert: the carrot cake... and the best word to describe this experience is: divine. Im not even a fan of carrot cake but the perfect balance of fluffy, sweet, and frosting to cake ratio... Id be surprised of the head chef is not a perfectionist in his/her craft. AND as if the food wasnt a great reason to come, they also host the most diverse set of rotating sour beers, that I know of, in all of Portland. While the review may be dramatic, I feel the food is up for the praise. Give them a try if youre ever in the area.

Before the Cascade Barrel House opened, the raccoon lodge was the place to go to try out the brewerys delicious sour beers. For a brewery with a reputation for making such sought after beers, the raccoon lodge feels more like a typical suburban family restaurant than a world class beer destination, so dont expect that. Also, dont expect a wide range of sour beers on tap either, they save that for the barrel house. This location tends to stick to the more common and accessible styles, reserving just a single tap for the current seasons sour offering. The food is good, but sticks to standard brewpub grub. The service is good for a restaurant, but on my visits, Ive felt like the waitstaff doesnt share the same passion for beer that many customers might expect at the home of vlad the imp aler and bourbonic plague. In short: if youre a beer geek, go to the cascade barrel house location. If youre ust looking for a good place to eat, and a decent IPA, the Raccoon Lodge is a good fit.

I work close to the Raccoon Lodge, and normally have a short lunch break so Ive been there about 10 times now to try and get a quick mediocre lunch. Everytime I go in, I call in about 30 minutes before hand to order my food, and usually when I go to pick it up the manager is at the front awkward shirt station on her phone and looking stressed out, even though the place is always dead and the servers are standing around doing nothing. My food is never ready, and they usually seem annoyed with me. The place smells like bleach, the soup is always the wrong kind, the pasta is watery and gross, the burgers are over priced, and the service is HORRIBLE. I tried, Raccoon Lodge, I really did. But Im not going to return. Get new managment, a new chef, and new servers who know what theyre doing, and how to deal with people and maybe Ill give it another shot. Its kind of a joke that theyre opening up a new location, good luck outside of the suburbs guys.

This place should be removed from the Raleigh Hills Neighborhood!! We come here quite often, and last night will be the last time we spend any money in this place. Last night a large group of us after a baseball game at alpenrose started to show up at about 845 to get some food. after a few tables were sat. Jake decided he was going to start turning away business because he said he did not have the staff. if you plan on staying open till 10 then you serve till 10! Not in jakes eyes. He turned away about 1000 dollars in revenue. This guy should never run a business, and he is super rude. We unfortunately had already ordered our food which some of our food never even made it to the table and we stayed to eat, but that will be the last time we ever eat here. It was great to see that the Raleigh Hills Pub was there to welcome our large group, and they were short staffed. Way to support your local little league Racoon lodge.

Raccoon Lodge is our familys go-to dinner out. Its one of the few good restaurants in the area, and the environment is great for families with kids. My husband and I split the Lodge Nachos with chicken, and its plenty to fill us both. Our son changes it up with the standard kids menu options, which are about $5 or free on Mondays! We love Raccoon Lodge overall but have had bad experiences with one server in particular. We do our best to avoid her! Theres a blond with short hair who is friendly and prompt, and we always ask for her section. The den (bar) is a great spot to catch the game or meet friends. Bartenders are super friendly and know their beers well. Definitely worth trying the sours-- Honey Lime Ginger is one of the best unique beers Ive had in a while! Four stars for RL because there are so many great things about it but the bad service really ruins the dining out experience.

I’ve been eating and drinking at places like Mcmenamins for about 20 years, so I’m quite used to lousy service and below average food, but Raccoon Lodge takes the booby prize. Our waitress took our order and forgot parts of it (perhaps writing it down would help if you can’t remember). Then, she ignored us completely before disappearing for about 15-20 minutes while our food was dying in the window. Another waitress finally brought it out for her. When we finally got to eat, my wife’s sandwich was terrible and meager. I’ve never been a fan of their beer, but thought I’d give it another go just in case… Bad idea. My food was alright, but nothing special. When it came time to go the waitress took the card and again disappeared forgetting to even put it through. This was truly one of the WORST dining experiences I’ve ever had the displeasure of enduring and we WILL NOT be returning.

Food and Service are very poor!!! I went here with high expectations and because it was convenient for a group of people meeting from different directions. I am a beer hound so i was excited to try new beer. first off the staff here was rude and did not want to seat us because we were an odd sized party. They told us to wait downstairs. We went downstairs to the den and there was a smart alecky guy named ben who told us to sit at a table. Eventually he made it over to us and we ordered burgers, salads, tacos and steak from the menu. Let me tell you, the tacos were actually ok. That was the highlight. The burger was so chewy and disgusting and laced with bone particles i could not eat it. My friends steak was so hard the knife bent. Seriously! I wanted to like the beer but it was watery. (porrtland ale). what a disappointment.
