Summary: Overpriced and poor quality food. Beer ok, but again, a bit pricey. I had high expectations considering the exterior modifications that made perfect sense for this location. The building is nestled in the valley created by the highway onramp. The location has/had poor visibility from the highway or any angle other than from the south if you happen to be driving in that area. The addition of the vertical façade definitely helps with visibility, and the new covered porch is perfect for a beer garden. The parking lot is huge and should never be an issue. However, there are issues: The food. The food is overpriced and very poor quality. Some observations from one lunch – I tried the blue cheese burger. The French fries were decent. The burger meat itself appears to be a meat loaf type mix of ingredients that makes it a mushy consistency with a severely over salted and odd herb flavor. This burger is supposed to be Cajun spiced I believe, and maybe that was the source of the death by salt, but the consistency and flavor of the burger was common with another style of burger one of our party had. Very unexpected and odd consistency and flavor for a hamburger. I don’t plan to return to this restaurant, but if I did, I would avoid the burgers. We also ordered two appetizers: Fried oysters and a spinach dip plate. The oysters were ok flavor for frozen and reheated, but not worth the price considering how close we are to the ocean, and a decent supply of fresh oysters from Safeway. Spinach dip was ok, again a bit salty, and the Tostitos round tortilla chips (or similar) were ok too. The beer battered onion rings were unfortunately a bit disappointing as well. Again they appeared to be frozen versions and were a bit bland. Maybe we just made poor selections on a bad day for the staff, but I/we were disappointed with the place. Overall, the food and the beer were both too expensive and low quality considering all of the options in the area. Oh, I didn’t see any signs of brewing in the brew pub either… When they fail, and I predict they will within a year, the next company will benefit from the exterior modifications and hopefully have some idea how to create decent food for a good price and should be wildly successful in this location. Golden Valley receives a solid 2 out of 5 stars from me and my two friends.

This week, the burger quest headed west to Golden Valley Ranch Brewery. I feel safe saying this is one of the best burgers I have had to-date in Portland. Here’s my review! Meat: 9/10 Melt in your mouth meat. Incredibly moist. Flavorful. YUM. Their beef comes from their own ranch which is amazing and perhaps why it is so tasty. The cattle is grain and grass fed – the only thing I would love is for the cattle to be 100% grass fed but otherwise, this was some of the best, tastiest, freshest, most flavorful burger patties I’ve had in a long time. Bun: 8/10 The bun was fine – a pretty standard run-of-the-mill hamburger bun. Burger:bun ratio: 8/10 Because the burger was so large and juicy, it overpowered the bun every so slightly, but I’m certainly not complaining. The Kaiser roll bun was tasty, made locally from Portland French Bakery. Toppings: 9/10 On their ranch, GVB has an organic garden from which they source the majority of their vegetables. Amazing. Plus, the burger came with a very tasty dill pickle which makes me particularly happy. Also. Tillamook cheese, the world’s best cheese. Also. The dijonaise sauce was delightful. Condiments: 10/10 What can I say? They have the world’s best condiments, Portlandia ketchup & mustard. This is my favorite brand of ketchup and mustard, so I was a happy camper. (: Logistics: 8/10 Bc the patty was so large and juicy, it was a little bit of a logistical challenge, but a challenge I will take on any day of the week. Fries: 8/10 The fries were thick cut steak fries. Not too salty, not too mushy. They were great, especially with that amazing Portlandia ketchup! Total score: 60/70

Ive been here 3 times now. It has been busy each and every time. Unless there is an immediate table available - be prepared to be crammed into a very small entry area with no escape. The food has always been great. Its a bit expensive, but quality ingredients used. If Im going to spend $30+ on a steak, Im still heading down to Ringside. Burgers are worth the menu price. Beer, now this is what I was really hoping the crown jewel would be. Highly disappointing. I understand beer is subjective and everyone has theirs - however every single one I tried was very run of the mill. Absolutely nothing made me take a second to really take in the flavors. Being an IPA fan, and living in the IPA capital of the world, there are so many amazing places with great food to pair with great beers. I wish this was one of them. Their location specific Exit 65 IPA was by far and away better than the Chehalem IPA, which was the most generic IPA Ive ever tasted. Like another reviewer stated, Ive had better home brews made in a garage. Happy Hour is a joke. $4 for a run of the mill beer till 6pm? How many world class breweries do we have that charge $4 24/7? Their normal price needs to be $4 and Happy Hour down to $3. $6 for 2 small beef sliders for HH? Come on now, we can get a full size meal for $3 more..... Less glam and glitz, more realistic regular pricing on beers and a real HH and youll pull this crowd - otherwise, there are too many other local options - this isnt McMinnville anymore.

What a missed opportunity. Theres no reason to come back. We sat in the bar, and were served by an unfriendly server. We got the beer sampler, as this was our first time here, wanting to give all of their beers a try. The lighter beers all tasted the same, and the darker beers were pretty gross. If you are a brewery, you should probably be known for your beers, but this is not the case. We ordered nachos for an appetizer, and they were SO NOT GOOD. I make better home-made nachos any day, and to charge $10.95 is absurd. We stopped eating the nachos and ordered dinner since we were hungry, so we ordered their BBQ pork sandwich and BBQ burger. They were both good, but nothing to rave about, and the french fries were standard pub fries. A restaurant like this could be awesome, and this area of town needs a fun, new place. This is not it. For the same price, you might as well go to Stanfords. At least there, you get an elegant atmosphere, nice service, and good food plated attractively. Or, you can go to McMenamins, where the beer is cheaper, the food is better, and people look like they are having fun. Come on, GVB, read these reviews! Theres still time to turn things around!

My friends and I have lived in the Portland area our whole lives, and in doing so we have learned a lot about beer, taste, quality, and anything to do with the overall appeal. When we saw that a brewery would be in beaverton and we would no longer need to go downtown, we were very excited, sadly our joy stopped there. We did their beer sampler, which we figured wed find at least a beer we all could enjoy, sadly none of us did, they are all weak in taste and creativity. We expected the food to be amazing based on the price and description but were all again let down. I always judge a restaurant by their pasta, I ordered the alfredo with shrimp, marie calendars in the freezer isle makes a more enjoyable pasta. I had to return it which is something I have never done. My husbands mash potatoes were box made, and if somehow Im wrong about that, that may be worse, because nothing from a family restaurant should taste like that. finally, the dessert was just like everything else that was there, overly expressed and sadly disappointing. the location & atmosphere were the only things I think that will allow this restaurant to continue on past its initial burst of energy.
