Taking after the kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi restaurants of Japan, Sakanaya offers a close-to-authentic sushi dining experience you wont find anywhere else in central New York! The service is friendly and helpful right off the bat, although its mainly a self-serve restaurant: you pick what sushi dish you would like to try off of the conveyor belt that runs along the bar, dig in, and enjoy. The wide selection of authentic Asian beers and wines features delicious choices such as Korean shoju and Japanese Asahi Dry beer, and has decent price range for imported alcohols. From the tempura dishes to the sushi itself, everything tastes delicious and freshly made. My only complaint would be that once in a while the raw fish (sashimi) is still slightly frozen, and the sushi on the belt can be semi-stale after going around the belt a couple of times- so be sure to check that youre getting a plate that has just been made, or simply ask the chefs to make your order especially for you (theyre always very happy to). My overall rating for Sakanaya is 4 stars! A great place to try out some foreign dishes!

We have only eaten here for lunch, Monday in particular when they run half price plates. We found the selection excellent. My husband and I normally split the items on each plate with him eating 3 out of 4 of the items or 2 out of 3 and I eat what remains (hes much bigger than me with a much bigger appetite lol). This is also a great way to get a lot more variety of items. The selection is excellent and very interesting, creative combinations are put forth, even dessert sushis! My favorite are the tempura combos and my husband likes the one that have more raw fish in them. But they are all good! We have eaten Sushi all over the world and by that standard this may only be a 4 star but for Syracuse, a 5!

Thursday night, I called to ask how crowded the place was, and being told there was nobody waiting. We were a group of 8, 3 adults and 5 kids, so we accepted to split up into two groups. A waiter was a sort of trying to accommodate us, but a really rude waitress came to 5 inches off my face and basically told us kids were not welcome since they might not eat sushi. I told her our kids do eat Sushi, but she was still arguing within my personal space. Well, we are all JAPANESE! I had never kicked out of Japanese restaurants because generally kids dont eat Sushi. That was absolutely ridiculous, and the place was not a fancy place. Very very disappointed.

First off, there is usually a very long wait for this Sushi bar on Mondays, which is when they have half-priced sushi. Once you are in, the sushi found on the bar is pretty good, although it is obvious it has been sitting out for a little while. Most of the time, larger rolls are presented on the bar with lots of ingredient as opposed to a simple roll with just fish and veggies but you can still order these simpler rolls for half-price. The edamame, desserts and other items on the bar are delicious and there is a wide array of foreign beverages. Overall, this is a fun and affordable place to eat, but not a place to go for the best sushi or a fancy date.

The service here is very mediocre, while the sushi is okay at best compared to the other offerings in the area. While thy may have discounted days and all you can eat days, the other places still provide better quality and a much better value for what is offered. I highly recommend looking that the other options around town since the value plus the hassle of going to the downtown area may not be worth the trip to this restaurant.

Place is dirty. Service is bad, food is bad. Asked for beef dumplings, got veggie, asked to correct their mistake and he still brought me another set of veggie dumplings. Opened all the dumplings in front of his eyes to show him there is no beef, his response was the "little beef". Asked for manages, reply "no manager today". Place was empty, prices super high. Would never go back here!

I went on wednesday, which is all you can eat for 25$. It was not worth it. Not the best sushis and not the most fresh either. Gyoza is fried (why) with limited amount of veggies filling and lots of dough. Melted mozzarella on sushi (really?) The sushi rice are gooey, enough said. The only redeeming things were the fried banana and cheese cake dessert.

Decent sushi, and plenty of different plates to choose from, but overall is a bit pricey for what is ultimately not the best fish. The rolls seem to emphasize sauce in order to make up for this. To be fair though, Syracuse is pretty far from the ocean, so it seems like theyre doing a lot with very little.

My favorite place to get sushi in Syracuse. I love how they have the pricing set based on the colored plates. If you love sushi like I do it can be a bit pricey but its worth it. Me and my boyfriend usually like to walk around after its near a lot of popular places in down town Syracuse.

Its the very best. This is my favorite place to have sushi. Unbelievably friendly service, exquisite food, novel conveyor-belt-delivery-system, and awesome deals spread throughout the week. Be prepared to wait in line for an hour on mondays for half price sushi. Its worth it!

Two side-by side restaurants - on the right is a conveyor-belt sushi bar, and on the left is a small restaurant. They can both get crowded at peak times. The restaurant has half-price sushi on Mondays, and a great selection.

Delightful place with an exciting atmosphere! Suggested by a friend to go and absolutely loved it. Was quick and fun. Sushi was fresh and tasty and the conveyor belt makes it that much better! Never seen anything like it :)

I dont know why people are leaving such bad reviews. Ive been here hundreds of times over the years and Ive never had a bad experience. The sushi is always delicious and the people are nice.

Interesting restaurant concept, the sushi travels on a conveyor belt and you just take what you want. Was really good sushi, but in my opinion cucumber is over used just a little bit

Hostess not friendly at all and always want to rush ppl with their bill. Their all you can eat Wednesday has very limited option. I would rather eat at my McDonalds.

The sushi quality was not as good as expected. The restaurant was practically empty. Staff was friendly but clear novice. -2 stars for quality of food and service.

Pretty good sushi place! I think that they do nigiri ans sushi rolls well but its easy to look at some of the rotating stuff and not be into it. Worth a visit
