Expensive...Pretentious. Long Wait Line... Its amazing that they even call this mexican food. Its Hipster Mexican food, they Charge Extra for EVERYTHING!!! Gauc, Salsa, Chips, Ceviche... Than Free Salsa is picante or hot sauce... which they consider Salsa? Wtf... Its pathetic. Really... When you can go to Pepinos down the Street, The Matador, Ole Ole, Los Taquitos, or any other food cart for that matter since the ambiance is the same as sitting at a local food cart culdesac. This IS the place if you want to go if your A Cali Transplant that pays for 80 dollar shaves and haircuts and enjoys getting ripped off that being from Cali and all. The drinks arent strong... I mean who the hell charges for chips and salsa in the first place? plus 3 or more dollar non authentic tacos..with pickled onions?.... Its a racket and its Sad Portland considers this place legit much less affordabke because This Place just burns a hole in your pocket. Not to mention not ONE HISPANIC person works there... Its Hipster Authentic, Not REAL Authentic

Everyone I have talked to raves about this place but I was disappointed. I was pushed in line since there was a line of people waiting outside the door. While in line, I was frantically searching the menu because you have to order before you sit down. It seemed like all of the menu items were just about the same with a small variation. The prices are very low but when ordering, I find out how small the burritos are (6 inch tortilla) so I ordered more which increased my bill substantially. The eating area is so small that when squeezing between tables you feel like youre rubbing your butt on someones backside and/or against their table. The music was so loud that I couldnt hear what the cashier was saying to me and I felt like I was screaming to the person I sat with. The food was not that great for the price. The Chorizo tasted like burnt crumbles and the chips were so salty that it was like licking a salt block. Will not go again.

After hearing great things about the first location, I was excited to hear that this one would be opening so close to my home. They did a great job building it out - both the inside space, and the patio out back are well designed and provide great atmosphere for a Mexican restaurant. The food here is undeniably good. Theres a great selection of tacos to choose from, and everything is well prepared and fresh. All the usual suspects appear in the beer list, as well as a local craft option or two, and margaritas. Service is fine for what it is. You order at a counter, and bus your own table when youre done, but the staff is friendly and professional when you do interact with them. My only gripe really is the price. Its good food, and good food costs more than what you usually get. I certainly understand that... but it shouldnt cost THIS much more. As a result, I

Por Que No is a great spot, preferably for happy hour, and is worth the wait (since there usually is a wait). The tacos are delicious, authentic Mexican, and well-priced. I suggest getting 3-4 tacos and get all different styles so you can sample all they have to offer! My favorites are pollo verde & barbacoa. In addition to tacos, we like to get the Bryans Bowl which is meat, beans, rice, salsa, guac, sour cream, & cheese that you mix up and eat with chips. This is great to share if you go with a group. And you cant have a delicious Mexican meal without a margarita! Their margis are fab, I like the Margaritas with agua fresca, which is fresh juice. The mango agua fresca margi is refreshing, sweet, and boozy! Hit up a HH sometime, grab some cheap tacos & a margi and enjoy!

Best tacos you will shove into your face in the Portland area, hands down. I crave coming here at least once a month. Their chips are hand made and are still warm and partially soft when they are served. Paired with their guac, you will be dying for more once the basket is empty. They also have the best margarita in town in my opinion. Very fresh and doesnt skimp on the tequila. Aesthetics are straight from a mexican cantina, or at least I imagine what one looks like. The only con I can say about this place is the usual 15-30min wait during meal times. It is definitely worth it unless there happens to be terrible weather however. Overall a very pleasent dining experience. Highly recommended.

Maybe it was just a bad first experience but I was not completely impressed with the tacos at Por Que No. I managed to swing by when the line was inside the building and ordered 2 asada and 1 carnitas tacos. The price point wasnt the best value or bang for the buck but I would gladly pay $3.50 a taco for the best. These were mediocre. The asada was almost jerky like from being over cooked. The carnitas were decent but has nothing on Nuestra Cocinas tacos. I will be hard pressed to wait in that line to go back in. Tacos are suppose to be simple and flavorful - onion, cilantro, lime - these failed to leave a favorable impression. They may get a second chance but it wont be anytime soon.

At first when you come up upon the long line out the door it can be a bit daunting with two toddlers in tow. The line moved surprisingly fast and we got a great seat with the fresh air from the bay doors open. Their is so much hustle and bustle that my two and three year old could eat and be kids with out me fearing that we were disrupting people. The food was fresh, had bold flavors and seasonings and the staff was all very friendly and helpful. Our entire family had a wonderful time and will be back is a great place for Vegans and non- Vegans alike. *Recommendations: chips, salsa and guacamole and Bryans bowl with hand made corn tortillas.

Portlands quintessential fresh Mexican food experience. Good owners who treat their employees well, strong drinks (house-made margarita mix, and the mix is for sale, too!), great ambiance, and very fresh and delicious food, including fresh fried tortilla chips. My staples: regular margarita; fish tacos with the perfect combination of fish, cabbage, pineapple, and sauce; and a Bryans Bowl with aways-amazing seasonal veggies and seasoned rice. My wife and I split it, and its amazing and fresh every time without fail. Long lines? Yes, but for a reason. Service is fast once you order, too. Easiest 10/10 ever.

Ive never been impressed by this place at all. I dont know if theyre just not trying hard enough or trying to hard in all the wrong ways. First, Id like to point out that this is a taco restaurant, not a Mexican restaurant, because if youre not an enthusiast you are left wondering why they didnt branch out a little bit. Everything is overpriced for the quality and the portions, except on Tuesdays, when the taco is $2, so then everything else is. The margaritas werent strong and not fresh in the slightest, the seating is squished, the service is practically nonexistent, and the food is really just okay.

So you think you know Mexican food right? You’ve explored all the places in Portland? WRONG! If you haven’t checked out Por que No? then you are definitely missing out! This dining establishment is adorable! It just screams local, homemade, deliciousness! I am one of the most pickiest eaters out there (stay tuned for this to change…haha), but I have to say that without a doubt the food from Por que no? is amazing! My suggestion? A Bryan’s bowl! Their guacamole is unrivaled…just by reading this post you are missing out on one of the most intriguing and delicious places in SE/NE Portland!
