I entered here expecting the usual greasy spoon chinese food, what I couldnt have know is that I would leave a hollow shell of the woman I used to be. First thing in the door I noticed the restaurant had a pervasive mildew smell, not terrible but not pleasant either. It wasnt enough to dissuade me from the course I had chose, and I even found it a little nostalgic of the chinese restaurant I ate at as a child. After I was sat I checked through the sauces, in the usual ketchup and mustard bottles that can be very misleading, and was disappointed to find that they were indeed just ketchup and mustard. Having read the reviews I decided to try the much praised egg rolls, and the staple of every chinese restaurant, ham fried rice. My food arrived shortly thereafter, and I will admit I was intimidated by the massive portions. I had enough food to feed 4-5 people before me. The server also let me know what sauces were in each bottle, and I was surprised to hear that the red bottle actually contained sweet and sour sauce. Skeptically, I tried a small sample, which to my horror, was simply watered-down ketchup. Alarms started going off in my head, but I couldnt stop now, not with $16 already spent. God, if only I had walked away then... Despite my trepidation I dug into the ham fried rice, which was the paragon of greasy spoon ham fried rice everywhere. Sadly, I had no decent sauces to add to it, but it was still good for what it was. This is where things moved into the realm of mental (and intestinal) scarring. I decided to dig into the "prize-winning" eggrolls. What I found inside the infinite layers of fried dough was a substance, somewhere between baby food and snot. My immediate reaction was revulsion, however, much like the character from Heart of Darkness, I had long ago passed the point of no return. I took a bite of the alien-egg roll and found a texture to match its disturbing appearance. I thanked the gods that, despite all the the wrongness of the substance I had taken into my mouth, it was blessedly tasteless. Having utterly abolished any pleasure I may have once taken in eating, I quickly paid my bill and left before the shame and self-loathing I felt inside rose to my face.

The decor is super outdated but the food tasted good. We got our meal and were pretty please until we tried our fried shrimp. To our horror we realized that they think its ok to serve shrimp that have not been de-viened. We decided not to eat the shrimp after we realized it. This is so disgusting! My husband asked if they batter their own or get them premade. They get in raw shrimp, peel the shells and then batter them without cleaning them. We talked to the waitress and also to a gentleman that we believe was the owner. No concern for how they are serving their food. And made no effort to rectify the situation. They are just fine serving shrimp feces to you!! No credit cards accepted either. Cash only and over priced!!

I go to Kwang Chows every once in a while only to get their Mandarin Noodles, which is about the only thing on their menu I find worth eating. BBQ Pork not bad either though! In my opinion their prices have gotten a little more pricy then the other Chinese restaurants I go to eat. Service is usually alright, I do like several of the waitresses working there too! Not the fanciest restaurant to go to either! Its not near the worse of the Chinese restaurants out there, but also not near the best either. Might say its the middle of the road type of restaurant to eat at. If you can find something on their menu that you really like eating, then its worth going there. Otherwise Id say pass it on by for some place better!

I love my Chinese food and I have been searching for a good place since I moved into the area. I went online tonight to look for yet another place to try and was a little skeptical about visiting this place because of some of the bad reviews. I can now say that my search is over.... I found a GREAT place The food was savory, seasoned perfectly, and not greasy... The staff was kind, polite, and patient. I have no idea where these bad comments came from, but I can assure you that they did NOT eat at this restaurant, or maybe they have no taste at all. By all means, treat yourself to a wonderful meal and stop by this place. I will be returning shortly.

Red flag number 1- cash only, they do not take debit/credit cards Red flag number 2- booth couch was broken and I fell. We could have left but we are nice people and decided to give it a chance Food was bad. We ordered sweet and sours pork and almond chicken. Almond chicken was covered with brown gravy. FYI brown gravy from the package tastes better. Overall quality of meal and skills that were used to prepare it appeared low. My fiancé had stomach ache. All that experience hunted us for couple weeks with intermittent nausea. Sorry, one star.

My family use to go to Kwang Chow all the time when we lived in Portland, OR, the food was awesome especially egg rolls and bbq pork, price was right, nevereft hunge, abd leftovers were awesome. We relocated to Joplin, MO area about 8 years ago not a single family style Chinese restaurant anywhere, we have Chinese buffets and fast food style, with frozen premade egg rolls, no fried shrimp, and no bbq pork at all. The only thing we miss about Portland, OR is Kwang Chow, a family dinner A or B would sure hit the spot.

Old school American Chinese Food. Everything is fried and delicious! Great place to spoil yourself after eating healthy all week. Growing up this was the type of food we would get when we went out to eat. You will like this place if you like places like Canton Grill or China Hut (I havent been to those places in a while though). This is one of the last places that serves this type of chinese food and has large portions. I just wish they delivered, My heart is glad they dont though.

The waitress was very nice and attentive and the restaurant is clean but seriously, the food was horrible. There was no flavor in the Chow mein, the sweet and sour pork was dry and chewy and the fried shrimp did not taste good either. Im disappointed because I checked the reviews before coming here. I couldnt believe how expensive the food is for the quality. You also can only pay cash and you have to pay for the tea. Bummer.

After reading all of the reviews on Google Ive realized, A. Kwang Chow doesnt realize they have a Google listing B. Milwaukie locals tend to love KC just the way it is and often have been loyal for 30+ years. C. I have been eating get here for 35 years and just realized they dont clean the shrimp. This is a basic sanitary standard in any restaurant and am surprised they even pass the health inspection.

I have been going here since i was 9 years old, 32 years old now! It is quite far the best Chinese food ever!! I love that they are a family based restaurant and they make you feel like family as well! They always remember who you are when you come in to eat!! The portions are huge and the prices are great! I will continue to keep coming in for years to come!
