Tonight I decided to give this place a go, as I was feeling sushi. My meal came quick and was quite pleasant. Probably the best Crab Rangoons Ive had in a long while. But the best food can always be overshadowed by garbage service. I can explain my experience nothing short of visual profiling. Im a younger, "alternative" looking male and tonight I came after work, wearing jeans and a tie dye shirt. Since I decided to have a beer with my meal, the usual urge to want a cigarette came on towards the end of my meal, which I was enjoying alone. I was seated at the sushi bar and stood up to deal with some business on my phone and sip my beer, and one of the waitresses was discouraged that I chose to stand and drink my beer for 30 seconds and ran over to make sure I was "okay". Then, I started walking towards the door to have a smoke, when I was chased down again being asked what I was doing. I explained that I was going to have a cigarette and she looked confused as to why I would want to do something like that and I had to look at the hostess and ask her if that "was okay?", not that being an adult granted me that right or anything. Then, she proceeded to watch me as I walked outside, as I walked very slowly to my car to grab my smokes. When she saw me walk immediately back she turned right around and went back inside. When I got back in, everyone was extra nice to me as Im sure they realized that was not needed. Im 26. Im an owner of two small businesses. I was, chances are, their most friendly and pleasant customer they had all day and I was still treated poorly because of what I believe to be my causal and alternative appearance. And to add to the fun, they charged my card twice! I wont be spending my hard earned money here again.

Toko has an ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI MENU!! No other Japanese restaurant in this area has anything like that! I would like to respond on what an earlier commenter posted as well: Toko does charge by piece (I believe its a dollar per) for what you dont finish, but, when its only $20 altogether (for the dinner, the lunch menu is less than $13, but not quite as extensive) with about 10-15 or so different kinds of great sushi, not to mention soups, salads, appetizers, sashimi, and they even include items from the hibatchi menu, they dont want to be taken advantage of. Ill admit that the first time I went, my eyes were bigger than my stomach, but I took home about 4-5 pieces and it was an additional $4, I think. The servers are great and will explain what their rules are before you order, plus they are printed on the sushi order form also, when you make your selections. Or, if you dont like the idea of all those rules, get something off their regular menu (which is huge!!) and they wont charge extra if you dont finish or decide to take it home with you. Well, if you like sushi, and are broke- as am I- you definitely need to try this place...just bring your appetite!

Well, we used to like this restaurant. We came on a Friday, and were surprised to see that the place was full -- usually at least half the tables are empty. So we get in line behind a group of 4 or so standing at the seating sign, whom we assumed were waiting to be helped. We stood there for about ten minutes, watching a girl with long brown hair and glasses go back and forth with menus, but not greeting anyone. Then in comes a group of three. They move up right beside us, next to the counter, and she instantly asks them how many, and they instantly get seated at the sushi bar. So, my fiance goes over and stands at the counter, and is completely ignored. For five minutes. As this brown-haired girl and a waitress fiddled with the cash register. Then I went over and stood there as well, and we were BOTH ignored. We ended up just leaving. I dont know what the brown-haired girls problem with us was, but if the management is reading this, she just costed you two pretty loyal customers.

I didnt have much expectations of eating here as Ive eaten at many top notch Japanese restaurants from around the world. Having said that, my experience here on a Saturday night were below my expectations. While they have an all you can eat sushi for $20 in which you use a paper menu to check off what you want, the quality of the sushi is horrendous. The sushi rolls are 95% mushy rice with little fish. Ive never seen fish on a nigiri cut so thing and narrow. The service was average with no glaring negatives. 100% white cliental here on a Saturday night - never a great sign when eating at an Asian restaurant. I would never recommend this place to anyone as I believe the food served here is a slap in the face to the Japanese. However if the food quality is acceptable for your personal taste, then I guess the $20 all you can eat would make you happy instead of paying $10-$15 a roll, albeit with a lot more high quality fish in your roll, at a more authentic Japanese restaurant.

We have been here multiple times, without any complaints. The first time, admittedly, we are a bit concerned about quality. How can they make a good sushi buffet at that price? However, we decided to try it out since we were both hungry for Sushi, and we sure were glad we did!! Of course they charge for wasted food - with sushi at this price, how could they not? This policy is clearly stated on the menu, but dont let this scare you. When we took my GFs sister a few months ago, she couldnt finish about half her hibachi, but they didnt charge us for it. I dont know how much food the complainers wasted, but it sounds like it must have been a lot if Toko charged them for it. The service is exemplary - we order multiple times, and they always serve us cheerfully. The sushi is wonderful, an plentous. Dont hesitate to enjoy the wonderful food, atmosphere and service here. My only regret is that I cant give them more than 5 stars.

I dont write reviews often Incredibly under-impressed with Toko Japanese Steak House. The quality of both food and service were terrible. I would expect much more having spent $70 between three adults (Hibachi Entrees). I have ordered better take out for half the price and received twice as much food as Toko. I would expect a restaurant with these prices to service their food with higher quality flat-ware and glass-ware. The plastic "glasses" and plates made me feel like I being service a kids meal at a family dinner. Soup and salad were bland. Fried rice, was dry and flavorless. Chicken and steak were fair; seafood was unimpressive. I will not be returning to Toko and regret dining here. Next time I will drive the distance to a quality establishment.

I went with my daughter for the AUCE lunch, the menu is a bit smaller from the one for dinner I saw posted online but there is still quite a selection. The place was dead when we got there, even at noon, but we werent greeted by any of the 5 servers so we seated ourselves. It wasnt long before someone came over and explained the way the menu worked and that extra charges could apply. The food seemed to take a while to prepare but maybe thats standard at sushi places? Everything was fresh and delicious with beautiful preparation. The decor was nice but the chairs at the sushi bar and alcohol bar were obviously from a coffee shop. Id go again for sure and am waiting for their restaurant in Kent to open because its closer.
