I actually got bullied into paying a higher tip than I wanted on our very first visit here. The food was great, service was as expected, I mean the one waitress stood nearby and stared at us while we ate but otherwise, everything went great until we went to pay. They give this little tip percentage chart along with the bill. I thought it was a little strange but shrugged it off. Now, I dont really believe in the tip system to begin with, but I understand that waiters feel offended if you dont tip. We also dont have a lot of money to splurge on, so we customarily give a 10% tip rounded to the nearest dollar. When I wrote the $3 tip on my receipt, the one waitress stopped me and gave the receipt to our waitress, saying "They thought you gave them bad service". Our waitress looked crestfallen and I then tried to explain our money situation and that 10% was what we always tipped. She said her boss would think she did really badly if he saw the low tip, and she showed me the little chart and asked if I could tip higher ("It is custom in the US to tip at least..."). I told her no worries, Id write on the receipt that she did a great job and...But no, she interrupted me, asking again if I could tip more along the lines of $5. I now began to get angry. What was she playing at? I already explained it to her, and she was seriously standing there *telling* me to tip more for her service! I started feeling hot with anger at this but decided not to cause a scene, so I angrily changed the tip amount on the receipt. I flat out told her "See I find this offensive, because youre telling me to pay a higher tip." They just stared at me. I glared and left with my family, and guess what? Theyve lost a repeat customer. Im sorry that I didnt throw cash at your face for average service...I thought tips, or at least high tips, were supposed to be for going above and beyond what is expected. And here they were bullying me into paying more than we budget for and...gah, regardless of what one feels on tip amounts, its absolutely no excuse for the staff to stoop to such a low level. Its such a shame too because we had planned on making it a regular stop, but not anymore. Or if we do, they can say whats up to a $0 tip, since we overpayed it this time.

Bearing the simple sign, "Japan Food", Aki is a great place, a hidden gem in the restaurant-topia of Orlando. The Japanese characters and sushi decorations give the feeling that the employees care about making you feel at most in Japan as possible. A bar- like structure exists at the back of the shop, but instead of alcohol, sushi can be seen being made. But the great service you get as seated at a table is followed by the better food. It is undeniably authentic Japanese food. I know someone who went to Japan and they said it was "the best I found in Florida". Great food, not too crowded, and well worth the price, Aki is one restaurant you wont forget!

Aki Restaurant reminded me of the local kinda dated, somewhat run down, no nonsense restaurants I went to when I traveled in Japan. Which is to say I really liked it. We ordered a variety of dishes (tonkatsu, sushi, udon and friend rice with an egg sheet). Only one dish was not to our familys liking and that was the fried rice, the rest were exceptional. The prices were completely reasonable and it was a pleasant surprise. If you are staying in Orlando, particularly at Universal, Aki is well worth checking out.

Great value and pretty good Japanese food. I always get the eel bowl (unagi donburi). It is the cheapest in town ($15) and a generous portion. It comes over rice with two pieces of egg omelette. Nice and hearty bowl. The salmon teriyaki is also a good deal (10$) and a large portion compared to other Japanese restaurants at lunch. It comes with mashed potato salad, a small amount of greens, and rice. The teriyaki sauce taste more soy based and less sweet than other Japanese restaurants around town.

One of the best sushi place I ever had at a great price. Been there many times with family/ friends, their lunch box is a great option if you like to have salad, sushi, sashimi, salmon, miso, all in one. The one hour happy time sushi filled two of us up within $40/person. Other than their pricing, The quality of food is amazing there. I am picky when it comes to freshness, glad to find a sushi place that satisfied my tongue.

Ive been gong there for almost 20 years. Totally worth it. Mr. Aki has always been nice to my friends kids. Hed always give an extra tomago for my godson/goddaughter who love his sushi. Would recommend because its simple, tasty, and priced appropriately. I cant tell you if its authentic or not, but the customers match the food, meaning, I see Japanese people eat there, which speaks volumes to me on how authentic the food is.

I travel to Disney world. Then the food is a big problem for me because I am Asian. I tried my best to find good Asian Restaurant. Then, here I am. I found Aki. The taste is so good. Specially the Rice bow and sushi. The best Asian food i can find in Orlando!!! Small place, but feel very comfortable and nice. And the price is very reasonable! Low price! Very satisfied!!!

I understand there are regional preferences so I cant say this is not authentic. They used quality ingredients which is great! They had a good selection of North American friendly menu items that the kids liked. For me, the maki rice was on the blend side. Low-key environment in a quiet strip mall that could be quite dark at night - look for the Japan Food sign.

I went there since I missed Japan and my GF so much. I was surprised to see that the shop felt very much like an authentic Japanese shop. the menu and decorations, all felt very authentic. The food was delicious and staff was friendly. I dont always need a super fancy expensive restaurant, and this place is affordable and good to eat. I will be visiting very often.

cozy restaurant, udon was just OK, have had better in Montreal. their grill eel rice was alright as well, however nothing spectacular. so not sure why it has such a high rating. reason I gave it a low score was because of the bar table, the over the counter fridge and surrounding were disgusting... would definitely not go back there next time I visit Orlando.

One of my favorite authentic Japanese restaurants in Orlando. Here is a tip for everyone. If you plan on having dinner there be sure to arrive as soon as the restaurant opens (usually around 5:30 p.m). The place gets really full and busy quick. Unfortunately, they only have two waitresses who are too busy serving customers to greet and seat you.

Dont be put off by the curb appeal. This is a great little hole in the wall for basic sushi. Its a small mom & pop restaurant, only 10 tables, but the food is great and while the servers are friendly the service itself can sometimes be hit or miss. Ive had several of the dishes on the menu and have never had a bad experience.
