I will only give one start because their food is the best compared to any restaurant nearby. Their service is horrible. The times weve gone in to eat, the server that "doesnt speak english" forgot to bring our drinks and then disappeared for the next 30 minutes after our food came out. When I got up to see where she couldve gone, she was in the kitchen gossiping away. I decided to give it a second chance but it was just as bad. So now we get takeout only and thats still really bad. They say your food will be ready in 20 minutes but it takes like 45 minutes and when you get there, they failed to tell you that it was cash only...this will be the last time that I buy from here. If you want better service and food go to El Jalisco, its a couple minutes from there. By the way, I was just eating my huarache and found a long hair...maybe it was mine? Oh wait , theres another hair in the other half of my huarache. You have lost my business, Carreton.

Very disatisfied with the service . There was a big red "cash only" sign at the register. Since Ive paid with my debit/credit card previously, I inquired with the cashier if the system was down today or if they no longer accept cards. She immediately got very snappy with her reply which was "We only use the system on Saturdays!" Since I dont carry much cash and my order was large, I had to go to the ATM machine to get cash. Definitely my last visit to a business that only accepts cards based on the day of the week. I could see if they based it on the amount of your order since they pay for merchant services based on the ticket amount and the type of card used. Their reasoning was completely absurd! I hope this was actually the truth and not a part time workers quick answer since she didnt know the real reason. If you like authentic Mexican food and good service at the same time..visit Mezcals, Alebrije or Plaza Azteca!

Friendly, no frills taqueria with very good, authentic food. I ordered the carnitas and chips with salsa. The chips were were hot and fresh and I think they made the tomatillo salsa on the spot! Carnitas plate with frijoles refritos and arroz mexicano was generous and made with care. I was asked if I would like grilled jalapeno and onions on the plate and they were delicious. The only negative might be that the table tops were cleaned onto the floor where leftover meat and crumbs sat from previous customers but I wouldnt let that dissuade me from returning. You can easily see into the kitchen when you order and it was clean. The restaurant was filled with families and friends from the neighborhood who obviously knew where to find a good meal at a fair price.

Happened in by chance for lunch today, Mexican Independence Day. There was a one-man mariachi band in honor of the holiday and he was a gifted singer. He will not likely be there next time, but the food will bring me back. My wife ordered a chicken burrito, it had no rice in it and she likes them that way. A side of rice and beans was an option. I had the menus special. They called it a huarache, like the sandal. It was an oversized corn tortilla folded over filled with shredded chicken, avocado, cheese. It was wonderful. New meal to me. My coffee was just O.K. but large and only 75 cents. Bill for the two of us came to 12.99!

Did I seriously just get discriminated against by Mexicans??? Place is supposedly open until 11pm, I walk in at 9:20 sign says seat yourself, the waitress walks by me about four times in 20 minutes, then a Mexican couple comes in sits down & she takes their order right away, then some boy walks over and tells me that I have to take my food to go, I say what food Ive been waiting 20 minutes & she takes their order before mine? He calls her over & shes all please please you take the order in Spanish to the boy whos not even a server. Are you kidding me? If the place is for Mexicans only you should put a sign on the door!

My dad discovered this little restaurant years ago after becoming a regular at their taco truck. Although the location near our house closed (due to the expansion on Oley Street), I can now see this business move was a smart one. Ive visited numerous times and the restaurant is always been busy whether its lunch, dinner or late night takeout. The prices are extremely reasonable- if youre looking for a meal under $10 I would recommend the sope or huarrache (with carne and chorizo)! I rave about this restaurant to all of my friends and would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic experience in Reading, PA!

La mejor comida Mexicana ! Amo venir a este lugar a comer. Lo único que una de las meseras fue desatenta, sin embargo esto fue solo una ves de las muchas que he venido! Pero despues de eso, a cualquiera le recomiendo venir a comer aquí!

Horrible, horrible service. I would expect from a restaurant that has "4.1" stars, that they would know how to take orders and how to properly communicate with the kitchen. Thats one problem. Another problem is I cant fathom the fact that its friday night and they have only 2 waitresses. Its ridiculous, intolerable. I would not come back. Food can be great, but if you dont know how to serve it, than whats the point of going. Horrible experience.

I ordered take out twice. ( the 10 Tacos for $10 and a side of rice.)The food was amazing. The wait was horrible( about 55 to 60 mins.) And there is no place to sit or stand while you wait. My fiancé and I ate in the third time and the wait was longer. They dont get your drink order and they dont come to check up on you. And its the uncomfortable to move around all the tables and chairs. The girls are rude and loud.

Majority of the time the food is good. It has only been a few times that the food was bad. Horrible service from the waitresses making it seem like they dont get properly trained. A few times they have lied about whats going on with the food(taking long or order done completely wrong) also they speak to clients with an attitude when a client needs something. One thing I can say is the owners are really nice people.

Me and my girlfriend get food from here all the time. The food is great, but the service really needs to looked at. I called in an order an hour ago and I was told it would be ready Im 20 minutes. My girlfriend shows up to pick it up 30 minutes later and the food isnt even ready. On top of that we have to pay in cash. Would have been nice to know that over the phone so we could have taken money out.

Their food is good but their service is horrible. They take forever. I understand if youre busy but it wasnt busy at all the day we went. There were only 3 tables and there were like 4-5 servers that were literally just standing in the counter gossiping. We seated ourselves and no one greeted us or asked what we wanted to order so we just left.
