The Steel Trolley Diner, one of the few places in Lisbon, Ohio to eat. I am a regular patron here, I come quite often with family and friends. The cleanliness of the Trolley is something to be desired. If a health inspector showed up randomly...I highly doubt that they would receive a passing grade. First thing you notice when you walk into the diner, is door rubs against the floor because one part is raised slightly thus catching on the door when you open it. The windows are finger print covered, if you have any sense about you...I wouldnt touch the glass. As you begin to walk through the door...the next thing you see is the floor, I highly doubt that it has been mopped in the past week or month for that matter. As you are walking down the Trolley, you are looking for a place to sit, but you are quickly disturbed by bench seats covers that have been ripped or torn. As you sit down...its a hard *thump*, there is no cushioning in the seats. You order your food and you are looking around the place and the next thing you notice is the grease covered walls. I doubt that the fans that are designed to pull the steam up from the grill is working at all based upon the strong strong odor of grease. If you decide you sit at the bar by the chef, you quickly notice that the grease in the fryers no longer has the look of grease, it is that of dirty water. I doubt the grease has been changed in the past few months. The food is the reason I come here. The burgers are quite good, however...they would be better if they werent steamed. If they were allowed to thaw out of the freezer instead of going right from the freezer to the grill and then under neath a pot cover with some water sprayed at them...they might just be the best burger in town. The patties are frozen...which if your a meat snob it might be left for something to be desired. The fries are cooked in that dirty greasy water compound, so if you do eat them...make sure you understand that might not be exactly...healthy. The Trolley offers desert...specifically Milkshakes. As they are quite good...they use artificial flavors. The only shake that actually gets something "real" put into it is the peanut butter shake. I am a farmer in Lisbon here, this is the one stop place to put something in your tummy at a late time. I am usually there after dark around 8-9 p.m. because I havent eaten anything since lunch or breakfast for that matter. Bottom line, it is an experience...and I believe that everyone should at least try the food before making any type of judgement on the place. Hey...I like it...it keeps me coming back.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Disgusting slob cooking the food I have been a fan of the Steel Trolley Diner for decades! My grandparents used to go here... I visited the Steel Trolley Diner with my wife on Sunday of the Johnny Appleseed Festival and expected to have a wonderful meal like I always have in the past... WRONG! We sat right in front of the grill which never bothered me in the past. However, after sitting for a while, I noticed the lady working on the grill was wearing gloves, and was never changing her gloves. She would simply wipe her gloves on her pants and shirt and continue on. I noticed this for about 10 minutes. She would place fries in the fryer, then put lettuce and cheese on a sandwich, never changing her gloves, only wiping them on her pants and shirt. I honestly didn’t think much of this since fry grease isn’t going to cause harm when it is in some lettuce or cheese. She then handed us our sandwiches and I began eating. After I began eating, I saw her open the fridge, pick up raw chicken, place the chicken in the fryer, then hand someone a ketchup bottle and hand us silverware… ALL WITHOUT CHANGING HER GLOVES! I asked “Excuse me, did you just pickup raw chicken and not change your gloves?”, She replied with some odd comment and walked away. (I would hope she went to the back to wash her hands finally put on new gloves.) A few minutes later, I witnessed her putting raw beef and raw sausage on the grill and continue making sandwiches again without changing gloves. I am sorry, but anyone who works with food knows not to cross contaminate. I sometimes to let small things slide like fryer grease on other food items, but raw meats is not acceptable! This women should be disciplined and trained about proper food safety! The manager should be disciplined and trained about proper food safety! And if they don’t learn, they should not be working in the food industry, period! You, Steel Trolley Diner, have lost a lifetime customer and I am sure several other lifetime customers as word of this fiasco spreads through my family and friends. I only hope no one gets sick from this unsanitary restaurant. If they do, management and owners should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

We stop at the Steel Trolley Diner after riding the bicycle trail to Leetonia, and back. After 20 miles in the saddle, a good burger hits the spot. The food has always been excellent. They offer a wide selection of burgers, so I havent ventured to the rest of the menu. I cant pass up a good cheeseburger. The place could use a good cleaning, as has been mentioned, and the service can be hit or miss. Weve had pretty good service, but it seems as if the employees arent all that interested in customer service. Perhaps theyre trying to create an image of nonchalance? It comes across as inattentiveness bordering on disdain. They clearly need the money, but Lisbon is not a bustling economic engine, so Im sure the diner is struggling. Maybe they prefer to serve only locals, and dont care for what amounts to the "tourist trade". That would be a mistake, because the residents of Lisbon arent going to turn this establishment into a national chain, without some outside assistance. Its a good place for people who arent overly concerned about immaculate conditions for food preparation, and I wont be submitting this place to Guy Fieris "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" until the employees act like they really want customers in their store. I will continue to eat there, though. I love cheeseburgers!

Im a native of Lisbon who now lives in Akron, and I used to visit Steel Trolley every time Im home. However, the last time I returned, I witnessed the worst service Ive ever experienced at a restaraunt. I was told to sit at a booth by one waitress, and after sitting down, was screamed at for sitting there by another waitress who promptly made my girlfriend and myself move to the counter. It is not the fact that she wanted us to move to give an elderly couple the booth that bothered me, but the fact that she did not politely ask us, but instead screamed at us rudely over the entire restaraunt. I gladly would have no problem moving to the counter, had I been treated with respect. This was rude enough, but from that point on the waitress who yelled at us proceeded to completely ignore the fact we were sitting there, never got us our drinks, despite us politely asking multiple times, and we only got our food after politely asking the other waitress to help us. The rude waitress then put her name on our check, as if she was the one who served us. Naturally, there was no tip. Dont get me wrong- the food and atmosphere here are outstanding, but Ive never seen such incompetance and just plain mean-spirited behavoir from a waitress or waiter before in my life.
