Went here to get a nicer-than-average dinner without paying for the expensive downtown places. I think we accomplished that, sort of. First, the service was good to excellent. Our server was not extensively knowledgeable about the menu, but what he lacked in data retention he made up for in genuine hospitality. Water glasses were always full. He was patient with some of our miscommunication and lethargy in ordering. Further, he took the initiative to treat us well and compensate for an order that came out wrong, even though we felt it wasnt owed to us or that it was a blatant mistake. Atmosphere: not impressed. Repulsive, even. It had the airs of a cheap family restaurant in the dining area and a third-rate convenience store at the front. Tacky sports/beer cling on the front entrance windows, and two ridiculous lightbox-style advertisements in the foyer. At the welcome podium: cluttered displays with in-house branded paraphernalia and a large case of cigars. I wanted to turn around and leave, but it was late, we were hungry, and we had exhausted our dinner options. The dining room was crowded and drab, and we were seated close enough to another couple to hear the womans drunk ramblings interlaced with sailor-level profanity, much to the obvious dismay of her male companion, whose sympathetic and apologetic facial expressions confirmed all the more my estimation of the restaurants deficiency in this particular area. Food: average. My pork chop was stellar; my wife enjoyed her salmon (after her order was corrected). However, her salad was lackluster and drenched in dressing, to the point that she couldnt eat more than half of it. My baked potato was wholly unimpressive. And the ribs—I cant understand how these are their claim to fame. My ribs were super dried out like theyd been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. The sauce was my least favorite barbecue sauce Ive had in recent memory. It tasted like straight ketchup. I actually disliked it completely. It seems that others have said the same thing; I think that whatever glory formerly belonged to Montgomery Inn due to their sauces popularity, they would do well to revisit the recipe. Lastly, parking. The requirement to leave your car with the valet in order to avoid street parking is a poor choice in my opinion. Maybe I dont understand the area well enough, as it appears other businesses employ the neighboring parking lot. However, the valet element is wholly mismatched to the caliber of the restaurant. I expect a valet at 4 to 5 star restaurants, but Montgomery Inn is only masquerading as such. Overall, it was an okay experience. I probably wouldnt return, however, unless some major revisions take place.

Let me begin this by letting the reader know that I have never written a review before, but found it necessary to do so after my visit. Recently, I went to the Boathouse with 3 friends looking to have a nice meal, and have a few drinks. It was a very slow night, and there were only a few other guest in the restaurant. After being seated, we were handed menus, and the server disappeared for a good 15 minutes. We werent given water, nor were we asked what we would be drinking this evening. After reappearing, our drink order was taken, and 15 minutes later, our drinks came out. At this time, she took our food order, and disappeared again. After 20-30 minutes, our salads came out, and were placed on the table. After taking a single bite of salad, our main courses were brought out, and crammed onto the table, shoving the salad plates off to the side, with the entrees hanging off the edge of the table. Ive never seen this happen before, and was quite shocked that it would happen at a place where I was dropping $50 on a meal. As for the meal itself, I enjoyed the salad, but, I also had the steak, which was chewy, full of gristle, and not cooked properly. My side dishes were swimming in a puddle of beef juice that covered the entire plate. Lastly, after paying the bill, the server came back and collected her tip and counted it while we were still sitting there. It was very awkward... To sum up my experience, I felt like this place was just going through the motions, and didnt care anymore. From the terrible wait staff, to the poorly cooked food, to the manager that oversaw it all. I write this with the hope, that my experience will save a few people from wasting their night out, on this place.

We hadnt been to the Boat House in years...tho, we did remember we were disappointed the last time, but decided to try it again nevertheless. Yikes - it was worse than we had remembered. The service was horrible. The food was lousy and cold. Everything is fried and way overpriced for what it is. The entire time we sat there ,and believe me, it took a very long time to place our orders and then wait for the cold food to come. Staff members of all kinds were constantly walking by in a rush. Several times we had to duck our heads because chairs were being lifted above ones head and moved to other tables. Our waiter needed to do something with his poor looking teeth. He was unpleasant to look at around food. When I asked about a glass of champagne, I was told unless I bought a bottle - no use drinking any! It was raining when we left. The line was long waiting to get our car. During that time an umbrella was inside down sitting right where you would get in your car once it showed up...not one of the valets seemed to notice until I asked why it was still sitting there full of water. Will never go back. We will also make sure not to reccomend this place to anyone else!

I was not going to say anything, but when my friend told me she had a similar experience I knew I had to write this review for others to see. COCKROACHES. We dined in at the Boathouse about a month back, and had drinks and appetizers on our table when a giant cockroach crawled across the table. We pulled our server aside and told him discretely, for which he apologized and found us a different table. The first server, Brandon, was amazing. The server whose section we got moved into was not so much. She was rude and seemed like she was too busy to give even average service. I would rather not post her name publicly on this forum in order to save her the embarrassment. I bring my family into the Boathouse several times a year, and I am disappointed to say I have never had an experience like this until recently. The service seems to be declining as well as the standards for the building. I understand it is difficult to maintain pest control on the water, but this was beyond disgusting. I would avoid at all cost until the Boathouse can get their act together. Ted Gregory would NEVER stand for this.

This place has the worst service Ive ever seen. We went after the Reds game and expected it to be a wait, but we had called ahead the week before and had a standing reservation for 7:30pm. (+/- 30 mins) We were finally seated over an hour and then it took over an hour to get our food. They did discount our food for the wait, but then it took 20 minutes to get the check after we were finsihed. Arrived at 7:30pm and left finally after 11pm. The food was ok, but Ill never go back nor will the 8 other people. This place has the worst service Ive ever seen.
