I have been going to Grand Oriental since I was a kid living in West Chester. This restaurant is a gem to me for the Asian- American cuisine and presence in Cincinnati. The service here is outstanding. The owners are typically found in the restaurant on the service floor engaging with customers, helping the wait staff, bussing, cleaning, or just generally managing. They always have their sleeves rolled up because they arent afraid to do what needs to be done-- although there isnt a lot that the wait staff cant handle. The waiters and waitresses are all very attentive and accommodating. If you feel uncomfortable because there may be a language barrier and your waiter or waitress cannot understand you, or you cannot understand your waitress, just speak slowly and clearly, as I have never had an experience here in which the wait staff wanted anything but to make sure your dining experience is anything short of five-star. Cuisine here is excellent and authentic, each dish is usually a large portion and served to the table in typical Asian tradition so each diner may serve themselves or one of the party serves the rest from the shared plates/ soups. The menu features Sichuan, Canton, and Mongolian as well as other Asian culinary influences and is organized into poultry, beef, pork, seafood, fish and vegetarian as well as appetizers, desserts, soups and noodles. The dishes are very hearty and flavorful, served very hot and fresh and there is an amazing selection with many opportunities for customization. My favorite feature of this restaurant is the Dim Sum served on Saturdays and Sundays. I have traveled to San Fransisco and Los Angeles and was surprisingly disappointed by the quality there, as the Dim Sum served at Grand Oriental is a much cleaner, relaxing, friendly affair than the crowded, disorganized, fast-paced Dim Sum I had in SF or LA. The Dim Sum selections include crispy fried taro, Char Siu Bao (barbecue pork bun steamed or baked), egg custard tartlets, Chinese sticky rice, jellyfish, soup balls, potstickers, shrimp cakes, sesame balls, and a plethora of others. Its evident int the quality of the food that the Dim Sum is all hand made and all fresh as it doesnt have the freezer taste and the quality of meats and dough used for each hors doeurvre. the Dim Sum served here also have a great accompaniment of your choice of oolong, jasmine, and maybe green tea, although i always order oolong. Many patrons at Grand Oriental are not just one-time guests but recurring visitors. I have been coming here since I was six or seven and at age twenty-four I take every opportunity to bring new and old friends who enjoy Asian fare to this restaurant to experience the Dim Sum and the wonderful architecture, décor, service, and most of all the food. Once you come here you will most likely be back for more

I would give Grand Oriental zero stars if possible. They are incompetent at take-out orders. I called in an order and was told it would be ready in 30-35 minutes. 65 minutes later my food was still not ready. Even worse, I could see that eat-in customers who had walked into the restaurant well after I had called in my order were being served their meals. The manager had the audacity to tell me (and several others who were waiting for their take-out order) that they were busy and it would be just a few more minutes. The restaurant was busy but not that busy...there were many open tables. Maybe their kitchen was short-handed...who knows. I guess I can understand them wanting to prioritize their eat-in customers, but there is no excuse for consciously misleading their take-out customers. Rather than quoting me a time he knew he couldnt fulfill, and then leading me on with his disingenuous comment that it would only be a few more minutes, he should have just been honest with me and said his kitchen is overwhelmed tonight and it will take a very long time to handle take-out orders. Based on my experience, I can only conclude that the owner/manager running this place tonight is one really bad guy! Stay away!

Thank God out of all the fake Chinese restaurants in Cincinnati this place knows how to make real dim sum and other authentic Asian food hot and fresh. This is my favorite and the best chinese restaurant around - my wife is Chinese she would know! haha... never once had any issues here and the food is served pretty quickly. Its too busy for my family on the weekend so we visit for lunch or dinner during the week. Brought friends here and they loved it. Family friendly place, beautiful decorations and atmosphere, and friendly and attentive service. Just got lunch there today and spectacular as usual. My favorites are shrimp dumpling, minced meat turnover, turnip cake, and bbq pork bun. Pretty much tried almost the entire menu, definitely frequent this place 2-4 times every month.

Aptly named, Grand Oriental is one of the best Chinese restaurants where Ive ever had the pleasure to dine. Ive been visiting off and on for many years and one of the biggest stand outs has to be their excellent dim sum. Only place I know of in Cincinnati that has authentic cart service! In addition, the lunch and dinner menu is superior in quality and value. But what sets it all apart has to be the wonderful owner/GM that has been there every single trip. He is always attentive and eager to ensure your visit is perfect in every way. Good decor and atmosphere top it all off. Slightly hidden, unassuming exterior, dont let the location fool you--this is a jewel in the crown of the Queen City!

Living in West Virginia we have ZERO options for Dim Sum, so we went here while on vacation after looking at the online reviews. The Grand Oriental did not disappoint. The staff speaks English and Chinese very fluently which is a plus for our blended family. The food was very good. My three year old liked the sticky rice and egg tarts, while we enjoying multiple samplings. We liked this place so much that we went on both Saturday and Sunday. The only drawback I have is that the ladies only push the carts to your table one time. I am more familiar with the carts rolling around at a consistent pace so you do not have to get all that you want at once.

Have been to this place on and off for last 3 years. Quality has always been good. They must have had an off-day or changed chefs. The food was sub-par today. Shrimp fillings were not fresh, and the shau mai, prawn rolls...were not well prepared. Some were even cold. Overall we were served below average dim sum for the 35 or so dishes that we ordered. The only dish that was decent was the vegetarian fried noodles recommended by a helpful Malaysian waitress from Cheras in KL. Will give this place another chance - but if it disappoints again, am going elsewhere.

It is way over priced. They charge $4.5 for tea and even $1 for a fortune cookie! We ordered half roasted duck for $18.95 following the waiters recommendation. We got very small portion (maybe 1/6 of a small duck), most of which is bone, no leg and wing. The amounts of other dishes were small too. There were very few choices of vegetables. The rice was so dry and hard. We three spent almost $90 and were half full after diner. I do not recommend this place and will never go there again. It is a real rip-off!
