Ive never gone out of my way to write a restaurant review but Ive literally never had such a bad experience as I did when I went to Causeway Cafe. From the moment me and my roommate walked in, we were never even greeted and didnt have anyone take our order until one of the cooks noticed we had been waiting for a while. The cook proceeded to ask one of the waitresses if we had been helped and she responded with "Not yet so I guess I have to" and took our order with a huge attitude. A while later the same waitress yelled across the counter "I was going to finish that before these people walked in." At that point it took every part in us not to just get up and walk out because it was clear that we were not welcomed there. If that wasnt enough, when we went to check out the woman at the counter told us that they didnt accept cards and that we would have to walk down the street to find an ATM (which seems ridiculous that an place that only takes cash doesnt at least have their own ATM). Thankfully it wasnt raining and when we finally got back and paid for our meal, the woman told us to leave a tip there at the counter in a rude tone. With the service we received, I should not have left any tip at all, but I left about 75 cents just to pacify them and regretted it the second I did so because the woman loudly commented "Thats all?" I just ignored the comment and walked out and when we were almost to my car, the woman stormed out and yelled at us "You guys need to learn to grow up!" I was beyond shocked that someone would make that much of a rude scene over a tip they obviously didnt even deserve and to be honest, if it werent for the fact that I was just trying to avoid confrontation and get the hell out of there, they would have had a lot more of a pissed off customer to deal with. All that being said, I will NEVER go back to this restaurant ever again. The food was only decent and Im sure I could get the same quality food anywhere else in Wilmington. Horrible place!

This is a gross greasy spoon with terrible service and food. Prepare to slip on the floor when you walk in and want to scrape your tounge on the way out. We were not greeted nor told we should seat ourselves. We asked and sat ourselves. A small 4 year old is hanging out with mommy while she works. 10 minutes later a girl does not welcome us nor tell us until we ordered that even though the menu clearly says "breakfast all day" that of course the cook cant cook breakfast and lunch at the same time. 15 min later they offered my daughter a coloring book. 10 min later two of the three meals show up and people next to us all have half of thier meals. How do you screw up french fries at a greasy spoon? Make sure they are stale, freezer burned (do dollar stores sell fries?) And make sure to not put any salt on them. Then my meal came. The mushrooms tasted like metal and the tomatoes and peppers tasted like maybe they rubbed them on the floor first. Maybe thats the key to the slippery floors. Such a shame that they couldnt ask us how the meal was, refill drinks, offer dessert, tell us they were not bringing us the check, and im expecting they wont even give a genuine good bye given how the staff is acting. People rent a beach house or enjoy a campfire and are looking for a good meal while on vacation. Just because they fool everyone once doesnt mean they should still stay in business. This is just sad.

Food was fantastic, service was not. I never go out of my way to write a review of a restaurant, but wow, Ive never had worse service. It was fine until we started finishing our food- no ones drinks were refilled, even though we put them at the front of the table; the waitress never came up to us and asked how our food was, but she had enough time to count her tips on the table next to us. On top of all of that, we waited at least 25 minutes before we FINALLY got our check. Oh, and they dont tell you this until you get to the register that they ONLY TAKE CASH. There were no signs that said so on the front door. In a group of five, only two of us could pay right then and the others had to run to another store to find an ATM. Not only that, but my friend was given $1 in change when the actual change was at least $5. Food is also cheap, but still good. Next time I visit Wrightsville, however, I probably will not be returning to the awful service that awaits anyone who goes.

POSITIVE: If you are looking for upscale & trendy breakfast foods with fancy coffee drinks, look elsewhere. Causeway is one of my "must visit" places when Im in Wilmington. It is a tradition in my family. The food is good and there are dishes I have found only there. Eggs Neptune, for example, is a Benedict dish with crabmeat. On the weekends the restaurant is packed from 7-1030am with multi-generation families waiting outside for Dave to SHOUT their name. (It is startling for the unaware) There are signs outside and inside telling patrons that they do not take credit cards, and directing them to an ATM a block away. The last time I was there they did have a B rating, but that did not discourage me. Ive always had good experiences there and it is a favorite of the many grandchildren in our family. My personal favorite is a turkey and swiss omelette with (the best) home fries. They do serve Sundrop, which is a plus. Hope you enjoy! ~FS

Horrible experience. NEVER coming back. Rude man at the door yelling out names in the most jarring way possible. After waiting an hour by my watch, (and observing numerous parties called to be seated even though they checked in after us), we checked in on when we would be seated. Young lady at the door passed on to rude man that wed been waiting an hour already, to which rude man replied (in the most snarky way I could imagine) that wed checked in at 9:55 and had 10 more minutes before we hit an hour. So we left and went to a MUCH BETTER restaurant less than a mile away and are ow enjoying a DELICIOUS breakfast at SWEET AND SAVORY where we found only polite, efficient service.

Had breakfast the other day. The wait was really NOT worth it. My LARGE juice was just a small 8 oz but no big deal. The place is a little out dated needs remodeling for sure example I felt like I was eating outdoors with their picnic tables that are covered in cheap vinyl table cloth the bar stools are even covered with it. The food was okay not great just okay. I had the shmrip and cheese omelette which consisted of cheap store bought shrimp and shredded cheese. Dont get me started on their instant grits with no flavor and if you get it on the side, you get a very small bowl that will cost $2.25. I hate to admit it but Waffle House would have been better.
