I placed an order with them on July 31 for 6 dozen cupcakes - 2 dozen each of Banana Crème Brulee, Key Lime and Tiramisu for my daughter’s wedding. Being a fellow baker I was expecting to see quality cupcakes when I arrived at the restaurant but I was shocked and dismayed at what I saw. Only the Banana cupcakes could barely pass as being standard cupcakes; the Key Lime were half the size of the Banana and the Tiramisu was more of a cupcake top, only 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch tall. I was horrified with these cupcakes and had no choice but to serve them since all of the wedding guests had arrived. Frankly I was embarrassed to serve them to my guests. I am well aware what a "regular" or "standard" cupcake should look like. And if cupcakes are scooped properly then there would never be the differences that we saw. I understand slight variances but when these were taken out of the wrappers it was obviously much more than a slight variance. The cupcakes were no higher than my finger. They were closer to mini cupcakes, about 2 child size bites and cost $3 each. If it wasnt my daughters wedding then I would have made them myself. As far as the taste of the cupcakes, the little bite of key lime was delicious but the others were terrible. Even the bride remarked that the tiramisu tasted dry and stale. Upon complaining to the owner she offered to give me another dozen of these horrible cupcakes or a very small amount of refund. I paid $250 for cupcakes that I was embarrassed to give my guests. Do not waste your money on these cupcakes, if you want quality cupcakes in Wilmington then go to Shuga Shack, the cupcakes are twice the size and 500% better flavor for basically the same price.

I just wanted to let all of Hot Pink Cake stands unsatisfied customers know that we will be having a protest in front of her shop very soon details will also come some. Jody is the worst cake maker ever. She is also the rudest person I have ever encountered. The cake that she made for my daughters first birthday was awful. It was dry, uneven, and tasteless. She didnt do half the things she talked to us about doing and when we showed up on the day of he party to pick up the cake, she tells us that we didnt discuss a smash cake so she didnt have one ready. we spoke about a smash cake and have multiple emails to back this up. then she proceeded to catch an attitude with me because I was upset about her not making a smash cake for us. she said that she would go and throw one together and it would take 5 minutes. when she comes out with the cake she says that she is going to give it to us free of charge. like she is doing us a favor. news flash we paid over $200 for this order of a half sheet cake. they made us a quarter sheet cake. then when I ask her about this she says that she did give us a half sheet cake. Im not stupid. This will probably get deleted very fast because they know that they are some shady people.

Today was my friends birthday and we decided to visit Hot Pink Cake Stand in downtown Wilmington. I have lived in Wilmington for 10 years and have never experienced such terrible service at a business. We arrived 1.5 hours (approx. 7.30 pm) before closing time. We were the only customers in the establishment We sat at the bar and after a few mins greeted by a gentleman who was packing up the cupcakes for the nite. This was our first visit to this business and we asked for a menu. The gentleman had difficulty finding a menu, unable to answer basic questions about the cupcakes or recommend drink pairings. The waiter was obviously preoccupied with cleaning up and closing for the evening and was not interested in serving customers. We ordered a smore cupcake which was on special however we were told they were "out of them". Asked for a glass of pinot grigio and the waiter stated that he only had "a little bit left but it was too old to serve" and did not offer any other white wine. Two cupakes =$5.88. Save your money and take your business elsewhere.

I am so glad that I did not read the negative reviews prior to visiting Hot Pink Cake Stand! We stopped in while touring the Azalea Festival. We are having a wedding this September in Topsail. We were curious about their cupcake wedding cakes. Angela was behind the counter and had recently been married and Gladly shared lots of great advise. She was extremely friendly and helpful. And of course we had to try multiple mini cupcakes! All of which were fresh and delicious. I am picky and do not like heavy sugary icings. This icing was fluffy and buttery. I especially liked the carmel sea salt! This was not a fluke visit. The second time we stopped by, they had different flavors and all were fresh, moist and wonderful. They have helped us every step of the way for the wedding. Said they could make just about anything we would want. We only had to ask. They are delivering the cake to Topsail on a SUNDAY! Really, you will not get better cupcakes or service anywhere else!

I had a horrible experience with this bakery! I had pre-ordered a gender reveal cake and advise them that I would like to have the inside of the cake either blue or pink to match the gender the bakery agreed. Immediately following my ultrasound I took the pictures to the bakery in a sealed envelope for them to make the cake. The day before I was supposed to pick up my cake I got a phone call from the bakery stating that they were not able to color the inside of the cake pink they were only able to do the icing. The lady actually told me the gender of my baby over the phone. I understand that mistakes can happen but she still wanted to charge me full price for the cake, with no remorse. When I got the cake the fondant had a huge air bubble in it, and the decorating was mediocre at best. I will say that the cake tasted good. It was the experience that ruined it for me. Good luck if you order.

I have been to the shop several times and for the most part thought the cupcakes were great! However, I did decide to us this bakery for my wedding. I needed 7 dozen cupcakes and I called 2 weeks ahead of time (thinking this was plenty of time since you cannot make cupcakes in advance nor were they to be decorated more than the basic). The owner seemed so put out that I needed cupcakes on a Saturday. After a lot of sighing and muttering to herself she agreed to the sell and promised they would be ready by 12 (I had asked for 11 oclock). They were not ready until 1 and she was very rude to my brother-in-law when he picked them up when he questioned why they were not ready on time. You would think that spending over $300 would get you some niceness! If I had had more time to drive the 2 hours back to Wilmington I would have tried different cupcake shops and used someone different.
