Lets just say, the Coal Yard Coffee is not my scene. The ambiance is a garage converted to a coffee shop by adding some couches and some art thrown on the walls. The setup is awkward; we werent sure where to pay or order. Although we were the only 2 people in line, it took us over 5 minutes to get our drinks. They did not have whole milk, my Mate Latte priced $3.30 on the board was made as a plain latte charged $4.87, and their flat white would generously be called warm milk (also $5). The barista did NOT know how to steam milk or pull espresso. Right by where we received our drinks there were jars with dead bugs in them for sale for $70 (Eek!). And as we were getting our drinks, some regular customers (hipster meet tokers) caught a spider and took it outside. Overall a waste of money and a very odd experience. I hope we just hit it at a really awkward time/poor barista, but the only functional aspect of the coffee shop was their wifi.

Love! What an amazing little gem well hidden in the Indianapolis area. This little shop is down an industrial road not surrounded by any other retail. If you blink, you may miss it. We werent sure if we had the address right when we first pulled up. The coffee is delicious and the drink menu is vast. I had a great iced coffee and an even better latte in the days I was able to visit. Cute local artwork adorned the walls and shelves, it was hard not to buy it all. The next time I am back in Indy, I will be back.

Best coffee around and such a neat place! Local artists display their works and the staff is always so nice and always recommend the best drinks if you are unsure! We used to be able to take our dog inside but someone complained I guess. (Im guessing whomever it was was jealous of everyone elses awesome pups)! They still have outdoor seating and give us a puppy cup!!

Coffee is delicious. Freshly roasted, you can really taste the richness. We like their current pour-over option of Coal Yard Blend. I also enjoy the Two-Face with English Toffee flavor. I am enjoying a more consistant visit now that the baristas are more experienced. It is nice to be able to see so many unique and awesome art works all around as well.

Did not have a good experience. I walk in and I wait about 5 minutes at the front before the barista gets done with his smoke. Comes back in and does not even wash his hands before getting started on my cup. Even after that I still tried the coffee and it was dull with nothing special about it. Probably the worst coffee shop experience I have ever had.

Great new gem in Irvington, just on the Pensy Trail, serving some great hand-crafted drinks at prices below the mega-chain competitor. They are artsy and hipster but still friendly, which I find to be noteworthy. Made a perfect kids temp hot chocolate for my daughter. Welcoming to dogs, which is fun for everyone and perfect for Trail walkers.

Great place! Easy to miss since there are no easily visible signs. Thanks to Google Maps street view though I knew what I was looking for. Cool atmosphere and great coffee. So far I can vouch for The Ledger latte and the Lucky Charms chai tea being top-notch! Really cool local art as well, Ill definitely be back!

I happened upon Coal Yard Coffee completely by accident. I was on my way to Starbucks. Serendipitous. The unassuming exterior belies the funky little art gallery coffee shop inside. James made me a tasty muddy chai while telling me where I might find a few rentals I hadnt seen elsewhere. Ill be back.

Love this place. Employees are friendly, cool artwork, nice neighborhood hangout. I once told them about a drink that was not on their menu, a chili pepper mocha. We talked a bit and they made one for me. Delicious.
