The location of Caprice Bistro, near the river and within walking distance to a lot of the hip spots in downtown Wilmington, is excellent, and on a Wednesday night we lucked into street parking very near the restaurant. The mirror-lined main rectangular dining room feels very much like a bistro in Paris. Our dinner started on a high with two wonderful cocktails, my ice-cold vodka martini and my companions amazing and unusual Manhattan (a mix of bourbon, B&B and Grand Marnier). We shared the escargot appetizer ($8.95) in a garlic and roquefort sauce, which was delicious, and the accompanying French bread made it even better. For an entree, I had the steak frites -- the strip steak au poivre ($26.95, I believe the most expensive item on the menu) was very good, although probably not U.S. Prime, cooked to my exact order, and the French fries were hand cut and perfect. If anything, it was too much of a good thing -- the steak was much larger than expected and potatoes came in a heaping serving. I had a glass of the house Cab with my steak frites, and it was a large pour and reasonably priced ($9.50). My companion ordered another long-time Caprice Bistro favorite, the Seafood Waterzooi ($19.95), which she pronounced wonderful, a mix of local seafood plus salmon in a cream sauce. Service was intuitive not intrusive, and our waiter was very knowledgeable. The total bill for two came to about $90 before tip, a very fair price for the quality of the meal and the delightful setting. When in Wilmington, well return.

The Caprice Bistro is probably my most favorite restaurant in the downtown Wilmington area...and it just happens to be a French restaurant! Altogether, Ive probably dined here a total of 4 times to date. Ive ALWAYS had an excellent steak-frites, cooked PERFECTLY to my specifications (not pink on the inside, not charcoaled on the outside). There WAS one time I had to send it back, but when I did, they STILL cooked it PERFECTLY. The prices are just a little bit more than your usual pub grub (which, French food isnt pub grub, and thats the point), but theyre certainly reasonable for what youre getting. Also, their selection of red wine is really good. Cant go wrong with a single thing on there! Their waitstaff has been consistently great - I get refills on my water, even if I dont ask for it! Not to mention, they also have a second floor seating area complete with a bar counter and couches - perfect if you want to lounge around while taking in a cocktail or two!

This is hands down the best restaurant I have tried anywhere in the United States. If you are looking to impress someone with the best dinner in Wilmington, this is the place to take them. They serve very comforting provincial-style French cuisine and the atmosphere is laid back. They also have an upstairs bar and lounge area where you can order dinner as well. Everything we tried on the menu was amazing, I wish I could give them a ten star. The only down side is they are only open for dinner, but they also have a late-night bar. Sooo so so good! Please, do not pass this place up, worth every cent!

Highly overrated. Thursday night service was decent to start but tapered off through the meal. Food was not as expected, Duck Confit was dry and the Beef Bourguignon was nearly the same as a mediocre beef stew. Bread and the calamari were good however. Also, making a reservation was odd, OpenTable had no availability, but calling for a reservation was made sound like it was nearly impossible to fit us in, but was called back with a successful confirmation. Upon arriving, there were plenty of tables available... Overall was expecting much more from such a highly regarded and reviewed French restaurant.

Weve been dining at Caprice Bistro for many years. The restaurant has always been the best in downtown Wilmington. Last night, I had the French Onion soup and then Coq au vin... both were wonderful, then profiteroles for dessert. We invited friends who had never been there, and they instantly declared it their favorite. An upstairs bar and dining area is very comfortable. We dined downstairs near the front window, a lovely spot for a quiet, delicious dinner. Just steps away from the Cape Fear River, where you can stroll before and/or after dinner. Dont miss Caprice Bistro!

Our second visit on a quiet Tuesday night gave us a chance to sample the Prix Fixe menu. Split pea soup and arugula salad were good, coq au vin was perfect, piping hot, aromatic sauce. A few more veggies would have pleased us. Three sorbets for dessert perfectly finished the meal. I had the lamb shank and cassoulet on our prior visit, and relished every bite. The atmosphere is subdued and classy, and romantic on a quiet evening. When full, the restaurant had a good energy and feel of professionalism at work. Our waitresses both times were knowledgeable and attentive.

Caprice is a gem! Not only is the food delicious with specials every day, but the atmosphere is the best to relax and the owners and staff are so attentive that you feel you are treated with special care any time you enter the place! My husband and I are very picky on food and wine.... being French.... and we have found THE restaurant in Wilmington that deserves 5 stars at all levels! We now go there once a week for more than 6 months and every time we both enjoy our time in Caprice! The best price/quality experience too... Merci!!!!!

We have been to Caprice Bistro quite a few times and have tried just about everything on the menu. Everything is perfect everytime we go. The Waterzooi is one of the best dishes Ive ever eaten. The owners are always there hosting, filling drinks, and taking orders. The restaurant is clean and the waiters are always on top of things. This is not a place for tourists that want a hamburger on the same menu as boeuf bourguignon. It is a place for people that like good, delicious food that want to savor every single bite.

Every single dish we had was absolutely outstanding, including the bread. My mousse had 3 different types of chocolate - white, milk and dark (my absolute favorite). We also had a Vouvray (French white) which was fantastic, remarkably superior to any wine I have had in years, served cool and stored off the table for you. The service is friendly, knowledgeable and quick without intruding . The setting is a classic, brick, old town, Wilmington building steps from the river. A treasure.

Took my wife here to celebrate her birthday (our first time visiting) because she enjoys French cuisine-- we were greatly impressed. It is a bistro (cozy in size and atmosphere) and they really went out of their way to accommodate our baby & stroller. Every single server was pleasant, cordial, and awesome. Of course, the food, wine, and gateau was wonderful (and tasty!), but the real deal clincher was the people and the environment they created. Highly recommended.

A wonderful surprise in downtown Wilmington...Caprice Bistros French and Belgian cuisine is absolutely delicious, in a wonderful intimate setting. The downstairs dining room is cozy but not crowded, with a very nice ambience. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, and the food...amazing. Creative, flavorful dishes and exquisite desserts. We make it a tradition to dine there every time we are in Wilmington. Give it a try...you wont be disappointed!

Dined Saturday Evening with My Fiance. The sofa lounge is very quaint, quiet, romantic and comfortable. The noise level on the main floor was so horrible, we could not have one simple conversation. The food was excellent and the decor was beautiful, but again, the noise level is brutal. After our dinnner, we were invited to enjoy a free dessert upsatirs in the sofa lounge. We should have asked to dine upstairs in the sofa lounge.
