Ill give Bloomsbury Bistro 5 stars as Ive visited on numerous occasions and have never had a bad experience. The place has also become a bit more special and warrants a few Bonus points, as the wife and I have made it an anniversary tradition ... The staff, service, atmosphere, and food are all top notch and we love how the menu changes to offer a broader range of the chefs wonderful skills and flavor building. I do hate to admit however that my last visit recently did underwhelm and slight disappoint a bit .. again not enough to change my 5 star rating ... but for once the menu was not as "exciting" as it usually is and as such I was stuck to just ordering appetizers ... (the goat cheese "loaf" and beets salad, which Ive had before and it was divine and also the Crabcakes, which I tried for the first time) ... the wife tried the Quail ... Disclaimer: Due to dietary restrictions of beef and pork, I may have been more excited about the menu as there were pork and beef items that I am sure were delicious (or at least sounded delicious) ... As for the crabcakes, this is something that Ive have been trying as of late to offer myself a bit more variety than just chicken and turkey, etc ... however, what I have realized is that maybe I am not a big crabcake fan as I have a very hard time with the texture ... I would think the cakes would be more "firm" yet the last three times Ive tried and three different establishments, they all have been very soft and "mushy" ... not to my liking ... hey maybe thats how they are made ... but thats not for me ... and the ones here on this night seemed extremely mushy ... Lastly the wife was not very enthusiastic about her dish, but it was a presentation issue that completely threw here off her game ... But this visit will not deter us whatsoever, as our server Laurie was phenomenal and we know we couldnt possibly have back-to-back "not so great" food experiences at Bloomsbury!

The Bloomsbury Bistro has consistently been a favorite for my husband and myself for 10+ years. When we first found the restaurant, we fell in love with the imaginative and excellent food, but even beyond that, for us, was the service. As a fairly young-looking couple, we had found that wait and host staff at many of the "nicer" restaurants in the area would treat us as second class citizens, presumably because of our apparent age (i.e. they thought we wouldnt tip well) and because we did not spend a fortune in alcohol. The Bistro, on the other hand, has provided us with excellent service every single time that we have eaten there, even when we were dressed a bit sub-standard. :-) The portion size is good and, many years ago when we had our celebratory graduation dinner there, every single member of my particularly picky family came away happy. And thats really saying something. The soups/bisques are out-of-this-world and the seafood is typically amazing. Several years ago, I had a few hit-or-miss desserts, but in the past five years I would say that the desserts have risen to the level of the appetizers and the entrees in quality and creativity. Its definitely worth a try, and in my opinion, definitely worth the cost. The only downside is that if you want to have a quiet dinner, and there are other people there out "for a good time," the restaurant can get a bit loud. I highly recommend that you give the Bloomsbury Bistro a try - weve been happy every time!

While traveling through Raleigh, we searched and read the reviews for this restaurant and decided to try it. WOW! is about a word summary. We loved everything about this experience. The menu is completely changed about ever 2 weeks and based upon the local crowd filing in for the dinning experience, I doubt that these two weeks were not the norm. The service was great - always there when needed and not when you dont - the food was absolutely wonderful. - and yes, awesome. My wife wanted to lick her plate, but thankfully didnt. Trying to share between us was hard as we didnt want to give away too much :) I cant think of anything I would change, except for them to move closer to our house. Enjoy...

Its been years since we last visited, but we dined there this past weekend, and no wonder Bloomsbury is alive and well. A fine dining environment without being stuffy. Service was excellent. Even though there were large parties there (nicely isolated in their own private rooms, so no noise factor), our meal courses were well timed. The menu is a bit eclectic, but most should find something they will enjoy. Looking for a special dining experience without having to go all the way into downtown, then give Bloomsbury a try !

Ate here several months ago with a group. We had coupons so maybe that set the stage for the experience, which wasnt good. I dont remember the food, but do remember the distracted waiter and being treated like an afterthought. Way too many good places in this town to dine here again. In fact, after three years of dining out monthly with my group, there are only 2 restaurants I have disliked enough to send a warning.

Weve tried a lot of restaurants in Raleigh, but keep coming back to the Bloomsbury Bistro as our go-to place for a nice date. The food is always delicious and interesting, and the service is always impeccable. By the way, you cant beat their Tasting Menu. Where else in town can you get such great appetizers, dinner, and dessert for two, all for $50?

My friend and I had the pleasure of dining at the Bistro but turned out was no pleasure at all. Our appetizers came out in a timely fashion but our entrees were luke warm at best and wait staff was quite rude. With so many other fine dining experiences at better pricing and service, I will not be visiting this establishment again. I

Amazing food, I could eat an entire bowl of the brussel sprouts alone and then eat the entire meal! The menu changes but it always wonderful! The restaurant is beautifully done and has a small inviting atmosphere.

Bloomsbury does not look like one of Raleighs favorite restaurants. The service is good but they seem to not focus on the customer. The food is great and that must be the reason. Very good wine list.

The hands-down best fine dining restaurant in Raleigh. Thoughtful but not too experimental for and a great wine selection mixed with great, friendly service is why its a mainstay dining spot.

Nice little bistro with an amazing menu and wine list and impeccable service. Enjoyed it during a recent business dinner. Lovely dining area and private rooms for quiet events.

Went a few years back. Food was mediocre and service was poor. I do not understand how this place continues to get good reviews...
